White House meeting on shutdown scheduled

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama has invited House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to a White House meeting on Wednesday night because "not enough progress has been made" on a budget deal to avoid a government shutdown, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters.

The meeting is set for 8:45 p.m., Carney said.

I could care less about most budget arguments. But, when the ramifications of not passing the budget means that my children serving in the military will not be paid, well that just burns me up! How about if they all lay down their weapons until they start getting paid again?

If there is a government shutdown, I imagine all governments employees will take a day off (without pay) or for the length of time the shutdown is in affect.. If that is the case, everyone should take a cut including the President, Congress and the House, they are also government employees. Of course they probably know that little fact. Or is the powers to be shutting down on the American workers(little people) and eliminating themselves?

That will have an impact on voting Americans, I will be anxious to see the outcome the next election.

Has anybody noticed that President Obama has the car out of the ditch and smoothly running down the road again, maybe a little slow but picking up speed. Seems like the republicans are in the passengers seat grabing for the steering wheel to see if they can force the car back in the ditch. I'm sure if they succeed, they will look at him and say "now look what you did" simply amazing.

Why is there "fear" of a government shutdown. Core services like defense and law enforcement would continue. And, contrary to Blitzer's report yesterday, social security and Medicare payments would continue to be issued. Why the cliche hysteria without an explanation of whether the claimed "fear" is justified?

  7. Get it together GOPs!!

GOPs are throwing a monkeywrench into the economy when everything is so fragile – so typical of their irresponsibility. Take half a loaf and declare victory already – sheesh. Talk about overreaching with Planned Parenthood & NPR, like *they're* the ones breaking the bank, when really it's the greedy rich fat cats demanding yet more tax cuts even though they already pay the lowest taxes in the last 50 years. The pain should be *shared* not solely balanced on the backs of the poor & elderly – or do I not live in America anymore?

Wouldn't it be nice if our congress actually tried to work for America's needs rather than worked for their political parties. It seem that if republicans are for it, then Dems are against it and vice versa. They have done nothing but play blame games and play one-up-man ship. Where is the courage our leaders are susposed to have to lead this country. I thought they all took an oath. Please start taking care of America and stop the kid games. It makes you look like fools and is hurting our country.

This couldn't be about the budget that Pelosi, Ried, and Obama's great leadership failed to pass last year is it? When the Democrats ran all 3 branches of government!!! The real questionis... Obama wants to add a trillion of more debt next year, Dems want to spend as much as possible, and Republicans are fighting for a .05% decrease in spending, so what are they really argueing over?

They need to stop paying themselves, if the soldiers have to be overseas fighting in a war without pay then these greedy people need to stop their own pay and work for free like these soldiers are going to have to do. The soldiers can't fly home from the war zone and stay at home, no they have to work for free because the greedy rich people can't make up their minds on who to screw over for the fiscal year.

Many people don't realise this but they will be shutting down the Centers for Disease Control until this is resolved. That means that any current or future outbreaks will not be able to be addressed. It's not all parks and delayed social security checks, this is serious.

How do the leaders of this nation allow it to come to this? There are a lot of Soldiers who have their families and mortgages on their minds as they fight the endless wars that these same politicians have np problem funding. The same losers who never served a day in the military. They should get over themselves and come to a consensus on the issues that are ruining this nation.

Now the republicans are holding our service men & woman hostage by saying "you give them 7 billion dollars more pay cut and they will pay our service men and woman. What a bunch of crap that is. As a republican I am ashamed to even associate myself with them. If Obama cared more about this country and less about getting reelected he would them to shove it where the sun don't shine. The democrats need to get some guts.

People.....follow the money and the control of the money supply. The Federal Reserve and the central banks call the shots. They will get what they want so let's just be good sheep. Our government is not a government "for the people" any longer.

"NVa Native" Nancy Pelosi didn't just stand for childish games, she was a professional player at them. The ramming of the health care bill down the throat of every American? That reconciliation maneuver trick she played? Please. Entitlement programs, disregarding fiscal realities, wiping her butt with the constitution she is supposed to uphold? She didn't work for every American. She worked for every Californian. We should all pretend that California's financial horror show is something that would be great on a NATIONAL level? It's a simple thing every self-respecting American knows. If you don't have the money, you do not spend the money. Pelosi's vision of a country that runs on PERPETUAL DEBT will destroy everything that generations of Americans fought to build. Don't be angry with a man whose goal is to only spend what we have. Creditors have a way of wanting back all the money you barrow, with interest.

NVA's Native: The debt grew because Obama and the Dem controlled Congress SPENT more money. That is an undisputed fact. Whether the "stimulus" actually helps the economy, we will see, but the "tax relief" to the "rich" hasn't changed in 10 years.

Why don't the cut the salaries of these politicians? I personally will be affected by the shutdown since I work on a military base. I guess they don't care about the middle class people that actually struggle to survive. As long as they are getting paid their big bucks & get their tax breaks, that is all that matters to them.
