Broun: Democrats hatched 'diabolical plan'

Washington (CNN)-Republican Rep. Paul Broun sounded off on what he calls the Democrats' "diabolical plan" to steer Congress toward a government shutdown Wednesday on CNN's Newsroom. He challenged President Obama to "start acting like a leader" in a rant against the failure to reach a budget agreement.

Broun also denied that accusing the president of socialism last January equals name calling, saying instead, "It is just pointing out a fact. The president, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama believe the federal government should do everything for everybody. They believe in a socialistic Washington-controlled government that tells everybody what kind of health care we can have, what kind of light bulbs we can have."

The third-term Georgia congressman accused Democrats of hatching a plan during the lame duck session to try to "figure out how to get Nancy Pelosi to give Harry Reid a big majority in the Senate and re-elect Obama next year."

"They said…'We will shut government down, blame Republicans. There will be backlash against Republicans and we will get all these things accomplished,'" he declared. "I think it was a very diabolical plan they put together back last year after the November election. They are carrying it out."

Broun blasted Obama's participation in budget talks, saying that he "has been AWOL, missing in action," and that, "even the Democrats have been bemoaning the fact he is AWOL, missing in action."

Drawing a line between Democrats and the GOP, Broun denied that Republicans were trying to tell people what to do with their lives by advocating the defunding of Planned Parenthood, NPR, and PBS.

"We don't have constitutional authority under the original intent of the Constitution to fund Planned Parenthood, NPR, a lot of things we are doing," he said.

"We have to find bridges to send the powers back to the people as our founding fathers meant for us to. I believe in freedom and the president and the leadership of the Democratic Party believes that government needs to control everybody and everything. That's not freedom."

So, if I call Broun a hypocritical moron and a lying coward, that would be stating a "fact," right? Based upon his own definition.

I am sick of GOP weasels and their pretense that their vision of America – through their small-minded bigotry and selfishness is remotely valid.

I am shocked, yes shocked that a Republican Congressman would take to blaming President Obama in a tantrum. So typical, lie, blame everyone and anyone else, deny you are lying and blaming others and then pander to your base.

Meanwhile and what Republicans are NOT saying is that they want to control, what you believe (religion – in God this, in God that... what a woman can do with her body... and let us not forget that the rich pay way too much in taxes!)

You may accuse the President of socialism, which he is not doing, but your party Mr. Broun is implementing fascism. That's clear as day to see. Your party ran on jobs but have done nothing to help create jobs. You're party is more concerned about Planned Parenthood and a womans right to choose. That's BIG GOVERNMENT!!! And to your point of the President being AWOL, how in the world did you reach $33B in cuts if he was MIA as you claim? We're not stupid Mr. Broun. During the 2010 elections your party was talking about shutting down the government. I didn't hear that coming from any democrats. How's that republican slogan go: "Cut it or Shut it!"

Good for you Rep. Broun it is about time that you people ELECTED to office start saying these things instead of just thinking them. The Government works FOR the people we DO NOT work for the government! Everyone knows that Obama and his gang on thieves are socialists, and be proud of yourself for finally bringing these issues out in the open. It is about time our elected officials call Obama out and show him like he really is. One can only hope that the followers of the annointed one wake up before 2012 and do not re elected this fool and destroy our country fully!!

It's scary that a Congressman doesnt know what a "fact" is....

"It is just pointing out a fact. The president, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama believe the federal government should do everything for everybody. They believe in a socialistic Washington-controlled government that tells everybody what kind of health care we can have, what kind of light bulbs we can have."

Uh, those are not facts. Those are your "opinions" (and wrong ones at that) about what you *think* the president believes.

If it was a fact. then you could provide concrete proof where Obama or Reid ever said "The government should provide everything for everybody" or where they told us what lightbulbs we had to use (hint: They never did).

Come up with something new that takes us forward. But.. he is from the old South, still fighting the North. Get over it, it is 2011!!

Mr Broun, Thought you might care to be informed that it is the House of Representatives that are chared with presenting a viable budget. You may also care to know that the US House of Representatives has a leader. His name is John Boehner, 8th District of Ohio. Maybe you'd like to direct your ire towards the appropriate "leader". Careful though...You might make him cry.

So he's saying that the democrats plan to have government involved in every aspect of their lives, and the diabolical plan is to shut down the government completely? I thought the republicans were advocates of less government, and the majority of them are fine with the government shutdown, in which case a government shutdown kinda seems like something they would support over demoncrats... if he were a pot, I bet he'd be calling all the other kettles black

and the republicans want "socialistic Washington-controlled" gynecologist offices with some politician who "tells everybody what kind of" menstrual cycle they are allowed to have. so I guess as long as they aren't forcing light bulbs on us, it's ok to be socialists?

No he believes the top 2% should enjoy the entire economic pie. he thinks that if everyone had the drive everyone could make 75K/year. He live in a fantasy world. I've got mine who cares about everyone else. If he has a plan so that everyone in this country can make $75K/year I would love to hear it.

I WANT LEAD PAINT BECAUSE I LIKE TO EAT PAINT CHIPS AND THESE IDIOT COMMIES WON'T LET ME HAVE IT!!

This is best example the Republicans can find of leadership! Instead of the personal attacks, maybe he should be working on finding a solution that meets the needs of all Americans and not just his tea party supporters.

He is lying and it is the Republicans fault if the government shuts down. They are unwilling to compromise and we the people see that. We are tired of the game playing and are sick of the lies.

A diabolical plan to steer the government toward shutdown?? What is this guy delusional? The only chance this administration has of turning the tide in their favor is to show that they can stick to the economy. The Republicans have shown that they certainly cant.

Yet another one, a conspiracy theorist. Why is it the ideas and the people always seem to come from out of right field? I guess it takes one to know one, as the saying goes.

This is an elected Government rep, it's completely & totally embarrassing to believe people are idiotic enough to vote these people into office & speak of Michele Bachman being a viable candidate, what is happening to our county, the mindset is trying to take us back the 1940's very scary. We can't based the 21st century on a document hundreds of years old, none of this makes any sense, I'm sure the founding Fathers would have different views by now

OK, let's see.... Broun apologizes for calling the president a socialist by saying he is a socialist. What kind of apology is that? AND, he says the government shutdown is all because of the Democrats' diabolical plan to not give in to all of the Tea Party demands? Guess he forgot that the Democrats still control the White House and the Senate. So, if they want a budget, they're just going to have to give in a little. Typical Tea-bagger. It's my way or the highway and if you don't agree with me, you're a socialist. What convoluted logic. What a jerk.

Keep up the paranoid delusional X-Files-style conpiracy babble, makes you look like you're coming more and more unhinged as more and more of your BS backfires. Ryan's nonsensical fairy-tale budget proposal is the proof of that pudding, especially the idiocy about magically bringing the deficit under control and unemployment down to 4% by 2015 by doing the same things we did during the Bush administration and watching them, for no discernible reason, have the opposite effect they had during the past decade. It's a bunch of unicorn farts and leprachaun vomit. But hey, you keep lifting your ideological skirts like's fantastic for the Dems...people can finally really see the craziness hiding under there and the mean-spirited, selfish, self-righteous motivations that are elading you to attempt to truly and finally ruin the middle-class by forcing us to bear all burdens necessary to enable your rich and corporate backers to continue shifting all the wealth and assets of this nation into their pockets and under their control. But that's ok, right? Grandma gets to keep her Medicare so she'll hopefully still vote with the Teatards, right? And all the people you start screwing out of Medicare as of 2021, forcing them to pay more than double that Medicare recipient's have to contribute now and attenuating their benefits...they'll hopefully be just as reliably myopic as usual, right?

Cry baby cry!!! What about the Repubs want to control who we marry, abortion decisions, who we sleep with, etc. If you get out of my bedroom maybe you can do your job, WHICH is by the way to compromise and find a budget solution. I'd rather the gov't be involved in my healthcare vs. who I wish to give my "cookies" too!! SHUT IT DOWN!!! And I expect you all to be at work EVERYDAY in DC for at least 12 hours a day until this has been solved. This, Brotha Broun, is what I PAY YOU TO DO!!! Now shut up and get to work like the rest of us!!!
