Broun: Democrats hatched 'diabolical plan'

Washington (CNN)-Republican Rep. Paul Broun sounded off on what he calls the Democrats' "diabolical plan" to steer Congress toward a government shutdown Wednesday on CNN's Newsroom. He challenged President Obama to "start acting like a leader" in a rant against the failure to reach a budget agreement.

Broun also denied that accusing the president of socialism last January equals name calling, saying instead, "It is just pointing out a fact. The president, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama believe the federal government should do everything for everybody. They believe in a socialistic Washington-controlled government that tells everybody what kind of health care we can have, what kind of light bulbs we can have."

The third-term Georgia congressman accused Democrats of hatching a plan during the lame duck session to try to "figure out how to get Nancy Pelosi to give Harry Reid a big majority in the Senate and re-elect Obama next year."

"They said…'We will shut government down, blame Republicans. There will be backlash against Republicans and we will get all these things accomplished,'" he declared. "I think it was a very diabolical plan they put together back last year after the November election. They are carrying it out."

Broun blasted Obama's participation in budget talks, saying that he "has been AWOL, missing in action," and that, "even the Democrats have been bemoaning the fact he is AWOL, missing in action."

Drawing a line between Democrats and the GOP, Broun denied that Republicans were trying to tell people what to do with their lives by advocating the defunding of Planned Parenthood, NPR, and PBS.

"We don't have constitutional authority under the original intent of the Constitution to fund Planned Parenthood, NPR, a lot of things we are doing," he said.

"We have to find bridges to send the powers back to the people as our founding fathers meant for us to. I believe in freedom and the president and the leadership of the Democratic Party believes that government needs to control everybody and everything. That's not freedom."

Ask Broun whether he wants the Government to decide what I can do with own body. These people are the worst form of hypocrites – get government out of business, but make sure the government determines a woman's reproductive rights.

Brown says that the GOP doesn't have the constitutional authority under the original intent of the Constitution to fund Planned Parenthood, NPR, a lot of things they are doing.
They also don't have the authority to demand that all people become Fundamentalist Christians OR that everyone is not equal and not all can get married OR that women shouldn't have the right over their own bodies (abortion) OR that the poor need to either fend for themselves or of off and die. What a total hypocrite!!!!!!

Why should we listen to a guy who was condoning violence against President Obama? Broun, like many in his party, is long on vitriol, rhetoric, and fallacy; while disturbingly short on decency, honesty, and ideas on moving our country forward.

Since I couldn't get through watching Anne of Green Gables on PBS years ago without having to sit through about 6 hours of PBS fundraising, I wonder how much the government is really giving them? And my understanding is that NPR has similar day or multi-day long fundraising campaigns at least once a year...

While all these comments are well and good, since the message is controlled by the republicans, it is all meaningless. The people who make up 98% of our country have no power, nothing written at keyboards here or anywhere else will do anything. What is needed is leadership, from reasonable responsible people, at mass rallies in cities across the country. Rallies of the 98% of us who struggle each day to just live, work, provide for our families.

Until that happens, the message that is being promoted by the superior message producing Republicans will be allowed to stand and nothing you or I do hee at CNN, or MSNBC or whatever forum you use, will change that. Only by showing those leading us that we do not like how we are being led, will change come.

@aaron in MN: Sorry but not everyone in this country can make 75K you expect people who have no education (not even high school) should be making 75K a year? Some educated people (like teachers) don't even make 50K a year.

It is all a nice fantasy to think everyone should be making enough money but don't blame someone else if the said person cannot make a living. Education is the key and if a person does not pay attention to graduate then they will be stuck working menial jobs.

It is like the ant and grasshopper. Be merry and have fun when you should be working diligently and laughing at the ant but when winter comes don't blame anyone else but yourself for not doing enough to secure yourself.

Personal responsibility is nice, maybe some of you could think about it, it does wonders.

"Fox News will accurately report ...." HA,HA,HA đŸ™‚ that is just too funny, I almost fell out of my chair loughing at the absurdity of the comment.. It is clear that only dialolical plan in the process of being hatched originated with the Kock brothers!!!

The obviouse key to saving the deficit is to reinstate the Bush tax cuts and then double them or even triple them. That is what is exactly needed so that the excessive greedy top 2% income earners pay thier fair share to societly after greedily taking so extroninary large share of the profits created off the hard work of the middle class to where 25% of the wealth of this country is locked away by a very few individuals and then invested overseas rather then be circulated as needed here at home to keep the engines of the enconomy moving.

But the Tea Partiers cant argue based on facts and logic so they must resort to lies, lies, and more lies.

Diabolical? What is this, an old Batman episode? Does Broun realize what a joke the GOP has become in very short time, that their ramming of an extreme ideology down the throats of the public is not helping the situation? If you don't like a law, amend it, don't scrap it or gut enforcement simply because a few rich fools with the luxury of ideological purity deem it in their best interest. Broun and the GOP are fascists, plain and simple, and the unholy alliance with the Uber rich and the evangelicals will spell doom for freedom and liberty in America. Jobs? Who needs them, when defunding NPR and Planned Parenthood, eliminating collective bargaining and taking down murals depicting working people is SOOOOO much more important. By Broun's reasoning, we ought to give back Alaska, Florida, Texas and every scrap of land not included in the original boundries of the United States because it was NOT explicitly said in the Constitution. I guess Broun has never heard of Implied Powers, but, thats something you read ina book, and since Education is not explicitly stated in the Constitution, lets do away with public eduaction and replace it with a Christian version of the madrassas, so we can wallow in ignorance in the same fashion as the people who hate us in the Middle East.

Wouldn't that be great? We can have the GOP telling us how to breathe, eat, sleep, what we can read and what we can watch. Imagine the FCC doing Broun' s bidding: we would have endless rounds of FOX News telling us what to think 24×7. His idea of Freedom is us doing everything he wants us to.

The repubs and the tea baggers want to give our country to their multimillionair, billionair supporters.
They have almost succeeded, and may finish off those of us who had to work for a living.

They tell us that CEOs work hard for their millions in salary and bonuses. They do NOT work hard. Many of them, if not most do no useful work at all. They just use up the organizations resources.

But what they do very well is give piles of money to repub candidates.

I think it was a very diabolical plan they put together back last year after the November election. They are carrying it out."

I don't know what that Congressman has been smiking but it must be some strong stiff to muck up his feeble mind like it has. He smoked enough of that stuff to where he really believes Democrats planned on shutting down the government after the elections in November. I see now how it is so easy for Tea-Publicans to believe Obama was not born in the US. If a Congressman is stupid enough to listen to and believe that "Shut The Government Down" crap, he can easily believe Obama was born in Kenya. I've known for some time now that Tea-Publicans were stupid but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine them to be stupidly stupid, Their stupidity is a prime example of why you do not roll and smike the grass after a Donkey and Elephant have peeded on it. That stuff will screw up your mind. Another example. Look at "The Donald". He's walking around bragging about a leader of another country that he screwed. Come on people, give it a break.

@Realistic , that pretty much sums up what is actually happening , and people really need to take heed on what the republicans are doing , because whatever their doing is not in the best interest of the American people .....and the teapartiers don't count they should be locked up for treason along with anyone calling themselves republican !!!!
