Broun: Democrats hatched 'diabolical plan'

Washington (CNN)-Republican Rep. Paul Broun sounded off on what he calls the Democrats' "diabolical plan" to steer Congress toward a government shutdown Wednesday on CNN's Newsroom. He challenged President Obama to "start acting like a leader" in a rant against the failure to reach a budget agreement.

Broun also denied that accusing the president of socialism last January equals name calling, saying instead, "It is just pointing out a fact. The president, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama believe the federal government should do everything for everybody. They believe in a socialistic Washington-controlled government that tells everybody what kind of health care we can have, what kind of light bulbs we can have."

The third-term Georgia congressman accused Democrats of hatching a plan during the lame duck session to try to "figure out how to get Nancy Pelosi to give Harry Reid a big majority in the Senate and re-elect Obama next year."

"They said…'We will shut government down, blame Republicans. There will be backlash against Republicans and we will get all these things accomplished,'" he declared. "I think it was a very diabolical plan they put together back last year after the November election. They are carrying it out."

Broun blasted Obama's participation in budget talks, saying that he "has been AWOL, missing in action," and that, "even the Democrats have been bemoaning the fact he is AWOL, missing in action."

Drawing a line between Democrats and the GOP, Broun denied that Republicans were trying to tell people what to do with their lives by advocating the defunding of Planned Parenthood, NPR, and PBS.

"We don't have constitutional authority under the original intent of the Constitution to fund Planned Parenthood, NPR, a lot of things we are doing," he said.

"We have to find bridges to send the powers back to the people as our founding fathers meant for us to. I believe in freedom and the president and the leadership of the Democratic Party believes that government needs to control everybody and everything. That's not freedom."

Oh, how I long for the days back in 95, DemoCommunist. Yep, those good old days long before Bush began raping our Country ... without so much as a peep from these same GOPer Congressionals who are now bleating and baying ... bringing so many millions of us to financial ruin with his wars, his pharmacetical donut holes, his tax cuts, his TARP, and the stimulus he too handed out back in what was it, 2005, I think? None of which was ever paid for, but instead borrowed, leaving the financial mess for the next guy to deal with. And all of them so very willing to bring another financial disaster upon us, just because they can. Unbelievable.

You liberal morons will jump off a cliff if Obama tells you to. Your class warfare is getting old. Always claim that the top 2% has all the wealth. Why don't you point out the fact that top 2% also pays roughly 70% of all taxes? Where do you think the government get the money to pay for all these programs/entitlement? Yes, from that top 2%. By no means I'm in the top 2%, but even I know the different between right and wrong. There will always be the rich, the so so rich, the middle class, the poor, and the very poor. Every society has them. Nothing but disaster is the result when a government tries to "even" the playing field by "taxing" the rich. Sounds familiar, like "spreading the wealth"? That's why people label Obama a "socialist". Whether he truly believes in it or not is unclear, but his actions sure look like socialism. The end result of such an agenda to "even" the playing field, "spread the wealth", tax the "rich" and give to the poor? Just look at the mother of all socialism, RUSSIA. I should know, I lived under socialist rule half my life. It NEVER ends well.

HERE WE GO AGAIN....... If the Repuibs did anything worthwhile on their own, they would have the right to make a fuss. In the total absence of same, they should just shut up. In two and a half years, they have sat there with their thumbs in their mouths and blamed everyone else for what was or wasn't done. Tell us ONE bill or program that they {REPUBS} started, followed through with and came before the voters!!! JUST ONE!!!!:CAN"T BE DONE", CAN IT ? Now having talked and talked about the "shut down", they are saying it's the President who"s responsible.....WE VOTERS ARE NOT THAT STUPID! SEE YOU IN 2012, "REPUGS"!!!!

The Republithugs ... isn't that what they want? A complete shutdown of the government?

The Republicthugs only care about money and guns (ie. WAR). They want CORPORATIONS to tell you how to live your life.

Michelle Bachman blamed Obama in her response to the State of the Union address on Jan 25th. ……………..for telling us what Light Bulbs to use.

Does the right ever check dates?

It was a rare studio glitch for the former lawyer whose endless supply of quips makes her a favorite of cable news networks. Like Palin, she wins avid supporters and severe critics with
comments such as her 2008 claim that Obama had "anti-American" views. Her speech was more measured than some she has given, but it still included barbs and patriotic flourishes. She
referred four times to "Obamacare," a derisive term for the 2010 health care law that Ryan did not use. Under Obama, Bachmann said, "We bought a bureaucracy that now tells us which light
bulbs to buy and which may put 16,500

Does Bachman know…. OBAMA BECAME PRESIDENT ON JANUARY 21, 2009?

The Bill was written in 2007!!!!

H.R. 6: Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007

Rep. Paul Broun should be venting on Boehner and Cantor, his parties bi-polar leadership. The President's only mistake is believing he was working with adults who could come together and work out their differences. I am sure once those Social Security checks stop the cut it or shut it tea party will issue other orders to the Republicans and they will go off in yet another non-sensical direction. Keep it up Republicans once you lose the blue hairs in Florida, look out.

Here is a "diabolical plan", anyone walking on the stage in a presidential debate, every presidential debate, must be required to produce a birth certificate to participate.

And this is from the same guy who laughed with everyone when asked, "Who is going to shoot Obama?" He did not inform the authorities but the media at the event did. Please, now we know why Georgia ranks 44th in education...becuase the idiots here vote for people like Broun.

The usual deceptive Republican vitriolic propaganda used to advance their extreme ideology.
Call the man out on it, and he plays the "Founding Fathers" card.
Yeah, look into your crystal ball and take us back to the 18th Century, GOP!

you all are idiots! there isn't one politician (republican or democrat) that gives a crap about the american people! all they care about is their next raise. they don't care about a shutdown, because it doesn't effect them. you want to start cutting budgets, start with their pensions they get after serving one term!

  13. The reality is...

Well, I scanned the comments here and it looks like chances of getting a reasonable comment posted on this site are pretty slim but I'll try.
As usual, the liberals here resort to name calling and gibberish because they can not give a reasonable/ intelligent response to Rep. Broun. What Broun is saying is true; Obama is AWOL and the shutdown is not the fault of the Republicans. If the liberals could read something without going into a rage because they can't comprehend the truth then maybe they would be able to give a logical and coherent response, unlike Marie MD's comment.

Cut the national debt. Eliminate those purported loopholes FIRST to increase REVENUE.

Then, once these closed loopholes have PROVEN THEMSELVES, we can make a sound decision on the proper tax rates for the working class.

Wow ... SO when you sign a bill authorizing the government to fine/tax/penalize you for not having a government mandated thing .. this is not socialism? You have sacraficed a freedom to choose for people that are not residents and people that don't care....

I definitely do NOT want to see the government shutdown. It will be a huge inconvenience to see a stoppage to many of the services we depend on. The ball is really in Speaker Boehner's court. If he wants to avoid a government shutdown he will have to jettison the Tea Party Republicans who wont vote for any compromise, and start reaching out to Democrats who said they will meet him halfway with $31 Billion in cuts to Domestic programs - which is the same amount moderate Republicans first proposed.

Don't be misled people. This is what is known as a "tryout" for a potential GOP nominee. They are trying to find someone who can spout the party line, but hasn't crossed the line into "damaged goods" territory.

Ronald Reagan would quit the party, not wanting to be associated with the vast majority of them.

Surprise, surprise – another bizarre conspiracy theory coming from the right. What idiots buy this crud. Oh, that's right. That's what the Tea Party was invented for. Does anyone really believe that the Dems want a shutdown that could stall the economic recovery? Let's see, who stands to benefit politically from continuing economic problems? The GOP – that's who.

Let me get this straight. The Republicans control two thirds of one chamber and the Democrats control the Senate and White House. The Democrats control more of the power. The Democrats have agreed to 1/2 of the cuts being asked for, and all of Speaker Boehner's original cuts, essentially conceding half of their position. The Republicans, who control 2/3 of one chamber will, with a straight face, say that it is the Democrats who are causing the shutdown because they don't give the Republicans all that they want? This is after the the Bush Tax cuts were extended for the wealthy, to appease the Republicans, even though a majority of Americans did not agree with extending tax cuts for the wealthy. I would agree to the terms the Democrats have conceded, remind people how you made the Democrats cave on a campaign promise, by extending Bush Tax cuts, even though most Americans didn't want it, remind people how the Democrats walked away from the public option, even though most people wanted it, as soon as someone said death panels, and declare a Republican controlled agenda for the last two years.
