Broun: Democrats hatched 'diabolical plan'

Washington (CNN)-Republican Rep. Paul Broun sounded off on what he calls the Democrats' "diabolical plan" to steer Congress toward a government shutdown Wednesday on CNN's Newsroom. He challenged President Obama to "start acting like a leader" in a rant against the failure to reach a budget agreement.

Broun also denied that accusing the president of socialism last January equals name calling, saying instead, "It is just pointing out a fact. The president, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama believe the federal government should do everything for everybody. They believe in a socialistic Washington-controlled government that tells everybody what kind of health care we can have, what kind of light bulbs we can have."

The third-term Georgia congressman accused Democrats of hatching a plan during the lame duck session to try to "figure out how to get Nancy Pelosi to give Harry Reid a big majority in the Senate and re-elect Obama next year."

"They said…'We will shut government down, blame Republicans. There will be backlash against Republicans and we will get all these things accomplished,'" he declared. "I think it was a very diabolical plan they put together back last year after the November election. They are carrying it out."

Broun blasted Obama's participation in budget talks, saying that he "has been AWOL, missing in action," and that, "even the Democrats have been bemoaning the fact he is AWOL, missing in action."

Drawing a line between Democrats and the GOP, Broun denied that Republicans were trying to tell people what to do with their lives by advocating the defunding of Planned Parenthood, NPR, and PBS.

"We don't have constitutional authority under the original intent of the Constitution to fund Planned Parenthood, NPR, a lot of things we are doing," he said.

"We have to find bridges to send the powers back to the people as our founding fathers meant for us to. I believe in freedom and the president and the leadership of the Democratic Party believes that government needs to control everybody and everything. That's not freedom."

Is this man crazy, or is his behavior a show? Either way, I'm ashamed that my fellow citizens from GA think he best represents their interests. Just because he has an R after his name, and you're a Republican, doesn't mean he's going to do right by you. Find someone else next time, please.

The lightbulb thing was done under the Bush administration—but facts don't matter.

This guy is totally unhinged, even his explanation of the diabolical plan does not make any sense.
I can't believe people elected these clowns posing as sane human beings..I get amazed of these Republicans, it is almost like a competition where they are trying to out do each other.

Delusional – Jerk. I'm just stating the facts, Rep. I'm wondering if it's humanly possible for you and your cohorts to ever consider compromising with those who do not support 100% of your dribble. Probably asking too much from narrow minded people.

The democrats want the government to do Everything for Everybody? Even for a conservative, that is a huge over-reach. If this alleged Congressman really believes what he just said, then he is woefully ignorant. More likely, he is just a dangerously careless buffoon that will say anything to rile up his lunatic fringe base.

Kind of funny he's ranting about not wanting government to tell him what light bulbs to use when it was George W. Bush in 2007 who signed into law the Energy independence and Security Act of 2007 that starts phasing out incandescent light bulbs starting in 2012. Ooops!

This idiot does know who the PRESIDENT IS: The sentence states 3 people as if BARACK OBAMA is not the PRESIDENT. (The PRESIDEN, Harry Reid, and BARACK OBAMA), Really... Georgia will always be a RED state with STUPID politicans when they continue to elect idiots who cannot even put together a simple sentence.

After reading some of the posting, it is no wonder we have an idiot for President. Most of you that are pointing fingers and calling names are liberals yet you accuse the conservatives of doing that. You all throw the word "facts" around yet you get your facts from liberal media that brain washes you into thinking what they want you to think. This is exactly what you are accusing conservatives of doing with Fox News. Here is a tip for you, don't just follow blindly...maybe reading the news from other sources that have no skin in the game will give you a perspective on how we are viewed and how weak this country has become since Obama took over. All he has managed to do during his presidency is get us into more debt .. Anyone that has any math skills knows that you can't spend your way out of a recession nor can you keep borrowing to pay your bills.

After 10 years of corporate wealfare, and tax cuts (huge ones) for the very wealthy and two off-the-books wars (at $12 billion a month) they have the GALL to say Democrats engineered this?

The Republican/Tea Party built the debt ever since Reagan

They are the party that has been gunning for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid since the '80s

They are using their self made deficit as a reason to kill of those programs

Now, after breaking their budget compromise yesterday, and wanting MORE TAX Cuts

They say this is a Democratic plt? UNREAL!

We don't have constitutional authority under the original intent of the Constitution to fund Planned Parenthood, NPR, a lot of things we are doing," he said.

What exactly about providing for "the general welfare" that you don't get?

Benjamin Franklin started the postal service, established the first hospital, supported veterans, and was a proponent of libraries.

You GOPers are freakin' pathetic when it comes to history – and you wouldn't know a Founding Father's intentions if they came back to life and spoke it to your face!

The President and the Democrats don't believe in socialism – they believe in the Constitutional mandate for government to provide for the "general welfare" of the people.

And regarding the President being "AWOL" – Rep. Broun, you need to read the Constitution. It's up to CONGRESS to create a budget, not the President.

Republicans really are a bunch of idiots!

This old man must be on some gooood drugs. The Dems have proposed CUTTING $33,000,000,000....33 Billion! Yet the Repubs can't stomach those cuts cuz they want more, more, more, more and more! Come on folks wtf ever happened to compromise. O wait Speaker Boner says that compromise is a bad word. Loser

The Repugs are starting the "SPIN" cycle. If they say that it is the Dems fault enough times people will start believing them. The Repugs are going to shut down the government and spin it to blame the Dems.

Sniffit: Grandma gets to keep her Medicare so she'll hopefully still vote with the Teatards, right?

I think it's more "diabolical" than that: I think the Republicans are hoping that:

    1. Grandma is as selfish as the Republicans are (I've got mine; to heck with the next generations).

    2. Grandma will be dead by the time the Republican Medicare policies take effect and won't be around to complain that they helped screw the country into ruin by voting Republican.

The Tea Party is the group that is calling for a shutdown, economist giants that they are, and this is who the GOP is taking their marching orders from. Who is playing politicis with this issue? Not the president – the GOP weakings that are scared to death to stand up to the Tea Party even when they don't know what the heck they are talking about,

    So Broun said the Democrat's have a "diabolical plan"..... Definition of diabolical: "Characteristics of the devil;
fiendish, outrageously wicked". You have some nerve Broun, and you and your teas/pubs are getting meaner
and more hateful by the minute. For whatever reason you use this language, you are not worthy of anything
America has to offer and I am offended that you are paid by hard working taxpayers. You are no Georgia peach,
    but you are the pits.

Broun and the Republicans are fascists; that's not name-calling, that's a fact.

Here's my proof: Broun's last name is a derivation of the German "braun" which means "brown", as in "brownshirts," Hitler's private army of storm troopers (Sturm Abteilung – "Storm Section" in German).
