What happens in a shutdown?

Washington (CNN) - A government shutdown may sound like an abstract idea, but at the end of the day it affects actual places and actual people.

CNN Radio's Lisa Desjardins takes a look at what happens if the government shuts down and how it affects different areas of the country.

I'm a 49 and retired law enforcement. And also a vet. They can't do anything! We vote them in and they can't do what they say they were going to do. If I was President I would step in and stop all this crap! We shutdown Government. But we fund other countries. What sents done this make? But I couldn't be President. I'm too honest and not a lawyer and don't have millions of dollars. And I wouldn't put up with all the lip service. And I wouldn.'t put up with the Bull crap! I would be known as a no bull crap President.

The ten million government contractors have not been mentioned in any of your news reports about the shutdown. Stop work orders are being prepared which will impact many of these workers if a shutdown happens. So we have 14.5 million employees and their families impacted by this shameful political maneuvering, not to mention the millions of citizens who are also impacted. Congress does not serve any American's interest (with the possible exception of the wealthiest two percent who seem to own Congress).

Portions of the reserves of the u.s. armed forces might not perform their monthly drill this weekend... single parents, struggling individuals, soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen might not recieve a portion of their expected monthly income in the event of a shutdown.
