(CNN) - Waukesha County vote totals may have caused a stir in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election Thursday, but as vote results from additional counties become official, Justice David Prosser continues to lead JoAnne Kloppenburg.
The results from Waukesha County became official Friday, and were added to the Wisconsin state Government Accountability Board's website of officially reporting counties. Ballots from the city of Brookfield that had been left out of unofficial vote totals were discovered, changing the final vote tally and swinging results in the favor of Prosser in that county.
The Wisconsin state Government Accountability Board has added canvass results from 53 counties and 19 still remain. Vote totals tabulated from each county of the 53 reflect that Prosser leads Kloppenburg by roughly 100,000 votes. Of the nineteen counties remaining, canvass vote totals from populous Milwaukee and Kenosha are still outstanding.
Kloppenburg, who received support from unions during her campaign, declared victory on Wednesday, the day after the election. But the canvassing of Waukesha County, a large county which experienced higher-than-usual voter turnout, revealed votes that through "human error" were left out of unofficial tallies given to the media.
Though the Wisconsin Supreme Court election is nonpartisan, independent partisan groups have spent more than $2.5 million on television commercials to influence the outcome. The court is divided 4-3 between conservative and liberal-leaning justices. If opposition to Gov. Scott Walker's anti-union legislation that limits collective bargaining rights advances to the Supreme Court, a partisan split on the bench could affect a ruling decision. Prosser is thought to be sympathetic to Walker's actions, taken in an effort to rein in Wisconsin's budget. Unions have thrown their support behind Kloppenburg, hoping that a victory in the election will give them an advocate on the bench.
The Wisconsin state Government Accountability Board has not certified the results for the April 5 election and will not do so until all of the results are received.
This is a very wonderful day in America. Everyone can stand tall and be proud of America and especially in Wisconsin. It goes to show you that in the end what is just and right will triumph over wrong. I am so happy that this lady who was looking to overturn all of the hard work and dedication that has been put in by Governor Walker and the true people of Wisconsin has been defeated. What is amazing is that the democracy made sure every vote counts this time and in the end the right candidate prevailed. The rest is just the workings of a bitter and sore loser.
"Republican Robber Baron", tell me what these names have in common:
Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Warren Buffett, Eli Broad, George Soros, John Doerr, Teresa Heinz-Kerry, Barry Diller, David Geffen, John Corzine, Dianne Feinstein.
Give up? All Democrats, all billionaires.
Interesting too that it was just enough votes to keep the state from paying for a recount. How ironic is that?
The real story is that AP was anointed as the election decider by most of the media. It was the AP tally that Ms. Kloppenburg based her victory declaration on, not validated actuals. The subtext is that the actual Wisconsin results (Prosser currently winning by six figures) are virtually invisible in other print media. Media objectivity is a rare bird. At least CNN's Rebecca Stewart pulled together the facts as they currently exist. So, good job. Hope this is courteous enough.
Amazing, just enough votes 'found' to ensure a win, plus the right number of votes 'found' to ward off a recount. Yep, amazing!
I thank Wisconsin residents for starting a recall to remove the Governor and I hope the action gets contagious across the country. We need to get back to States having independent thinking rather than the, act the same, talk the same, cookie cutter sameness evidenced by these newly elected Republican governors. Their actions are proving to be more dangerous and frightening than this horrible economy.
How wonderful that the "plan" by the uniions did not deter true patriots. Union members do not realize they are still slaves, drinking from the master's bowl. Freedom is being a wolf and making your own way! Obey the laws and live your own life – that's the true way to freedom.
It's also convenient that the number of votes that were "found" just happen to be very slightly more than the number that would have forced an automatic recount at state expense. Now Kloppenburg has to pay out of pocket for the recounts on a per district basis.
I just love how these votes get "discovered" days after the fact. I also love the fact that the chick running the election in the county where the votes were "found" worked for the Republicans in WI for years before her posting in the elections board there, and also that she has been investigated numerous times for voter irregularities in her district, and has ignored calls to update her equipment, which is a decade old computer in her office only she has access to with no backups whatsoever. Oh, and it's Scott Walkers home district, too.
It's just all so convenient. Man oh man this is getting good.
Where did we get our Wisconsin electoral officials? From Zimbabwe? That's how President Robert Mugabe has stayed in power for 31 years. Stinks like rotten fish to me.
The votes were counted originally. There were no 'found' ballots. The 'count' was entered as 0 on the unofficial tally. When canvassed, they noticed the clerical error.
I betcha Waukesha county's cast votes are more than its registered voters. Somebody ought to check into these stats to insure the Repubs haven't cooked the electoral books. Cynical you say? Realistic I say.
Karen can't even remember the name of the city whose votes were suddenly, mysteriously "found." I don't think we crazy liberal whackos have much to worry about from Karen. You just toddle off to Bridgefield, dear, and thank whoever you find there whenever you find it.
i smell a rat.
RE: Karen and "Please send tourist info. I want to visit Waukesha county." I second that!!
Please Karen stay out of Wisconsin and go visit Arizona or South Carolina or even Mississippi..I think you'd feel more at home in those places.
RE: DIANA "find it suspicious that these votes mysteriously appeared when that guy lost" I find it suspicious that so many votes were overlooked as a result of " human error"?! Were union members counting them?
I just love how someone that has a history of suspicious work behavior on the Republicans behalf, who use to work for the Republican candidate all of a sudden found the exact number of votes needed to prevent a recount!
Both sides are wrong. Judges are supposed to be interpreting the law, not making it up to reflect their political biases. Just shows that what we learned in school about the 3 separate branches of government is a joke in today's America.
