NEW YORK (CNNMoney) – Lawmakers lifted the curtain Tuesday on a 2011 spending plan that will slash nearly $40 billion - cutting back on a wide range of programs and services including high-speed rail, emergency first responders and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The measure represents the single biggest cut ever made to the federal budget in one year.
With a $15 Trillion dollar Govt Deficit–the dollar amount of these cuts are nothing to brag aboiut–America is in real trouble–our Govt doesn't say much about helping the Japanese–so when China starts pouring money into Japan–the amoiunt of the dollars the US can borrow-will soon be ZERO! Then What?
End the unfunded republican wars, the unfunded Bush Tax cuts, and the unfunded tax breaks for big oil.
Besides for the arts, I would call these DRASTIC cuts. With the rising cost cost of fuel, high speed rail is a necessity! We are stuck in the 19th century with a decaying infrastructure. Cuts to emergency first responders just sounds really genius(sarcasm here). I'm just waiting to see what happens when the next natural disaster strikes and there's no one to come to the rescue. This country is going to hell in a handbasket.
Cutting back on "emergency first responders"? Well, for any of you wondering, the reason the GOP would push for cuts to that is simple: the more injured, maimed and dead from any tragic accident or attack, the more horrifying BUT USEFUL it is for demagoguing.
Yeah... and with a prjected deficit of 1.6 trillion im sure this makes a huge difference. :-/
I'm all for reducing costs, deficits and taxes. But, here's my problem with some policticians. If you state a reason why you are for something, then that reason should apply to more than one issure. Right? Reasons are supposed to be an expression of your core values, and vice versa. Right? Let's review those issues, and reasons for opinions.
1. Taxes. Raising taxes, especially during an economic crisis, runs the risk of killing jobs and a recovery.
2. Deficits. Cutting the deficit is always a good thing. Avoiding them altogether is even better.
3. Spending. Reducing spending, especially during an economic crisis, runs the risk of killing jobs and a recovery.
So, if someone is concerend about killing jobs, then they should oppose actions that would endanger existing jobs or inhibit job growth. So why are some so quick to reduce spending that directly eliminate jobs?
this is just sad how republicans have no forward thinking vision cutting spending for high speed rail? are u kidding me with gas prices nearing $4 a gallon who wouldnt want invest in rail rather than driving long commute distances.
Where are the cuts to oil subsidies? Where are the cuts to agribusiness subsidies? Where are the cuts to the defense budget? All cuts based on radical right ideaology. The GOP has no idea what their pandering to the teajearks has cost them.
Can't wait for 2012.
The arts always gets the cuts, when it comes down to continuing wars, vs. the arts, even when the wars aren't being won.
Lots of other better investments being cut as well, I'm sure.
only we can improve over deficit trouble caused by GOP thug's regime, and reign, is tax on whoever make more than 250k, and cut defense spending......do not cut basics....we need medicare, infrastructure education, science and Tech, R and D, energy, energy, and energy independence, strict immigration, tax cheats nabbing, way to go Obama....my vote you get....obama 2012!!!!!, ,
So were there any cuts to their 6 figure congressional salaries or elimination fo their taxpayer paid welfare-healthcare benefits? Boehner, Cantor, Bachmann-we're looking at you guys. Did you cut these costs like we went you to Congress to do or not? If not, you three are the next we will fire! There is no reason you all should be paid 6 figures-a chimp could do your job. And there is no reason WE the taxpayers should be paying for your healthcare benefits. We are NOT a welfare nation for the poor OR the rich!
We don't need emergency responders. This country never has had and never will have an emergency. Here's my surprised look : o
