(CNN) – Donald Trump appeared to stumble into a contradiction in an interview Tuesday - a misstep that could haunt the potential GOP presidential candidate amongst social conservatives.
In an interview with MSNBC, Trump was asked if he believed there was a right to privacy in the Constitution - a right that, while not explicitly stated in the Constitution, the Supreme Court has said can be inferred from the text.
He responded, "I guess there is, I guess there is."
Then his tone of voice changed and he followed up with, "And why, just out of curiosity, why do you ask that question?"
When NBC's Savannah Guthrie wondered how that line of legal theory "squares" with his pro-life stance, Trump said, "Well, that's a pretty strange way of getting to pro-life. I mean, it's a very unique way of asking about pro-life. What does that have to do with privacy? How are you equating pro-life with privacy?"
To answer Trump's question, the United States Supreme Court equated the right to privacy as grounds to legalize abortion in its controversial 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

The best thing one can say about Mr. Trump is that he makes Ms. Palin look smart.
This comment shows Trump is not ready to be taken seriously as a candidate. He should know what the reasoning was behind the Roe vs. Wade decision. His actions are nothing but a publicity stunt.
I feel like this was a gotcha question and kind of a dumb article in general. Why give Trump any time anyway? It's pretty apparent this guy doesn't have a chance in the world. Move on. Just don't go back to more Palin.
Dropped the ball Trump.
so....Donald.
who won the 2nd world war you so smart...........
Remember ... We are speaking of TRUMPAHOLIC?
I use that NAME because he is DRUNK with his own importance.
The Conservative Republican NAZI Party will use him, just as Hitler used wealthy people, however, when all is said & done,
TRUMPAHOLIC will never receive the nomination.
Vice-President isn't even possible because the Republican NAZI Party only chooses people they can control.
The American people do not need a wealthy male version of Sarah Palin; Big Mouth, Big Ego & No Substance!
With no Wall Street Bankers in jail, BIG OIL screwing the country & GREED paying CEO's big bucks again,
I would hazard a guess that even the average American isn't so stupid (It's contestable) as to want to elect the
exact type of person who represents all of the above.
A GREEDY, MONEY HUNGRY, PROFIT TAKING egotistical Con Artist who believes that wealth automatically
qualifies you as an expert in; Foreign Affairs, Energy Policies, Nuclear Arms, Healthcare, Education, etc., etc., etc.,
This isn't politics as usual, this is politics in a Nut House on a Crazy Farm in the Twilight Zone.
What does that have to do with privacy? Well, I'll tell you Mr. Dump – republicans and Christains listen up as well – BECAUSE IT'S MY BODY, my life, my choice and it's has absolutely nothing to do with you, my neighbour, or the pastor down the street! So, what's your stand on the death penalty???
Donald, are you being exposed as the next Sarah Palin? Good at one thing (in her case, hunting... in his, business) but clueless about everything else?
Finally-someone was able to stump the phony.......He has no clue about government..Go sit down Mr. Trump.
Because it's none ya.
Trump is not prepared to be President of the U.S. I also just saw a statement he made that if President Obama doesn't show his birth certificate, Trump won't release his tax records. This gives him a perfect way out of running which frankly, I never thought he wanted to do anyway. This was all a publicity stunt. Free advertising.
Go and get him. Let him feel the heat of exposing himself without any reason!
Wow. Even a high school kid is more politically savvy than that. That is the end of this candidacy. I wonder what Katie Couric would do to him.
The idiot strikes again. dumber leading dumb. GOP, collective intelligence of a door knob....
He is more teflon caoted at this time the RR.
Of course what you do expect from Trump
To answer Trump's question, the United States Supreme Court equated the right to privacy as grounds to legalize abortion in its controversial 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

Yes, most conservatives DO have a hard time equating the right to privately kill a baby with the right to privacy. Does a serial killer have the right to privacy to kill his victims if it is done in his home? Or does the right of the victim to live override his right to privacy?
Trump was right when he said what does privacy have to do with the abortion issue. Privacy concerns the pusuit of life and liberty for the citizen, and the abortion issue is about murder or not murder. Because my stance and possibly Mr. Trump's could be that the unborn child is a citizen and who is looking after the rights of the unborn "citizen" child. We need not to ever equate the rights of one citizen over another (i.e. the mother's over the child's rights) or that self-centeredness on the mother's behalf is a privacy concern. So, well said Mr. Trump. What does privacy half to do with pro-life?
While not a Trump fan, the right to privacy question was always a unique legal decision...and a slippery road. I just find it odd that as a society, we harshly condemn dog fighting, but we have no legal conscience at all to end what is in essence is a human being...regardless of stage of "viability" or not. We all know it's a human. If the same "viability" logic was applied to dogs, then puppy fighting should be ok – as a right of privacy – because the puppy is just a dog who really isn't viable yet.
Trump is just showing his idiocy. I expect nothing less from a person with several failed marriages, kids from several different women, a man who has had at least one affair and is/has been bankrupt both morally and professionally in more ways than one. Stay away from a man who believes money is EVERYTHING. He is a sad excuse for a human and I have to say I do enjoy seeing that he is now a national joke, yet doesn't seem to know it. In our house, with our 5 children, we use him as the perfect example..... of how NOT to live your life.
Oops! Look Savannah, I can see Catalina from my Palos Verdes estate! Wanna come over tonight?
A "gotcha" question from Savannah Guthrie? I'm shocked... shocked I tell you.
with that much money he should be able to get better wig then dead cat
Give him enough rope, and he will definitely hang himself.
Side show Donald needs to think before he opens his big orange mouth, the only one he might be impressing is his attractive young daughter oops sorry I mean his wife
