Trump stumbles over abortion issue

(CNN) – Donald Trump appeared to stumble into a contradiction in an interview Tuesday - a misstep that could haunt the potential GOP presidential candidate amongst social conservatives.

In an interview with MSNBC, Trump was asked if he believed there was a right to privacy in the Constitution - a right that, while not explicitly stated in the Constitution, the Supreme Court has said can be inferred from the text.

He responded, "I guess there is, I guess there is."

Then his tone of voice changed and he followed up with, "And why, just out of curiosity, why do you ask that question?"

When NBC's Savannah Guthrie wondered how that line of legal theory "squares" with his pro-life stance, Trump said, "Well, that's a pretty strange way of getting to pro-life. I mean, it's a very unique way of asking about pro-life. What does that have to do with privacy? How are you equating pro-life with privacy?"

To answer Trump's question, the United States Supreme Court equated the right to privacy as grounds to legalize abortion in its controversial 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

He is a blabbing mouth idiot! He brags of doing business with an enemy of the US and cheating him out. He sent probably the same investigators that were looking for WMD's in Iraq to look for Obama birth documents. The guy is a clown and a media ho!

The problem with Trump is that he (and mostly he) is the only one who believes in himself. We don't.

whoops! He was probably thinking about his own right to be private...like how much privacy money can buy.

to be fair..I doubt most people would not have known that including all the candidates in the field. I did not know that either.

The news media ask questions in a way to trap or catch off-guard any Presidential candidate. They attempt to do their best to make make something out of nothing.
Read carefully how Abby Livingston asked the question–clearly she tried to deliberately becomee another Katie Couric.

America better start looking beyond the issue of Abortion-and Gay Rights. America is in REAL TROUBLE and it NEEDS strong leadership. Obama take on the GOP and how cutting certain projects would not create jobs-would cause highways to crumble–WITH GAS @ $5.00+ most people won't be driving.

America needs to become stable–needs to get out of her wars–needs to stop creating wars (such as Lybia & Egypt)–needs to get her act together quickly–BECAUSE THERE ARE NO SECOND CHANCES TO GET IT RIGHT!

Trump has been around–had a few wives-but he knows BUSINESS–he knows the Leaders around the World–whom he has done business with-and they KNOW WHAT THEY CAN EXPECT FROM HIM! On Obama, no one knows for sure from one day to the next the CHANGES HIS MIND–theme iss forever before us!

His comments on MSNBC, disqualify him from any further participation in any discourse that discusses the condition of, or how to improve, the state of this country. "I guess there is.", I mean really? Enough said. Hey Don, Orly Taitz and you are a match made in heaven. Please, just go.

Wonderful entertainment!! One of my favorite things about republicans is when they make a mistake by doing the right thing, (in this case Mr. Trump agreeing to a woman's right to privacy), and then they get ripped to shreds by their party for it!!!

Like when Mitt Romney improved health care for everyone in Massachusetts. It was the best thing he ever did while governor. Now its the biggest barrier to his becoming president!!!

You got to love how cheap, hypocritical republicans always, or as I call them, "The American Taliban," rip themselves to shreds.

Another great example – Arizona Governer Brewer voting against the "Birther BS Bill," and the "Wild West Handgun Bill." These were exactly the right things for her to do. But she will be destroyed by her republican comrades!! Watch the carnage unfold over the next few days!!

    Fabulous entertainment for all.

Honestly, does anyone think that Trump would know. He is in show business to make money not to understand the constitution of the US.

I mean really are you surprised???? The only reason why he is doing any/all of this is he is following the Sarah Palin playbook. Your name is out there and milk every opportunity you can to get dollars from these situations and having your name out there. Run for the highest office in the land even though you know full well you wouldn't win but oh well you made loads of cash doing it. And don't tell me he has enough cash cause really?! If that were the case what are the NFL owners and players fighting about?!

I am vehemently pro-choice and cannot stand Trump, but this exchange makes absolutely no sense. How privacy in the Constitution could be construed to mean pro-choice in an interview session is beyond me.

"To answer Trump's question, the United States Supreme Court equated the right to privacy as grounds to legalize abortion in its controversial 1973 Roe v. Wade decision." I did not know that. With that logic suicide, murder, theft should all be legal if it is done within one's own privacy. Now I am totally confused being abortion is most of the time the result of people having sex without taking consideration the possibility of creating another life and then treating the result as an object instead of a living being. On the other hand those that are against abortion are most likely against government entitlements which abortions have probably eliminated thousands if not millions of potential entitlement receivers. Basically I don't care for Donald Trump as a human being and wouldn't want him in office but this little article is really non-valued.

Welcome to Abortion Debate 101. Don't worry, Palin didn't know about it either. It jives well with your base. Just play dumb and serve your role as a personality for Tea-baggers to swirl around. We'll let you know when the adults have finished fixing the government and economy.

This woman is full of herself and the title of the article is misleading and inaccurate. She was being purposely obscure, even ridiculously so, and very few people who had not recently read up on the particulares of Roe v Wade would have handled that any better. She should try to pass the bar and simply use her entrapment tactics in slip and fall cases.

Give me a break President, the guy has to chase after young beauty contestants, he needs to be in playboy mansion, not the White House.
