Gingrich says Obama 'has never yet become president'

(CNN) - Likely GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich delivered a harsh assessment of President Obama Wednesday, describing him as a "left-wing activist who has never yet become president."

According to the Concord Monitor, the tough remarks came during a campaign stop in Manchester, New Hampshire, during which the former House Speaker suggested to a small gathering that the president has eschewed his governing responsibilities and is instead a "permanent candidate."

"He's the only permanent candidate we've ever had in the White House," said Gingrich, who also described Obama as "perfectly fine, extraordinarily brilliant, [and] sadly shallow."

Gingrich, who is an exploratory phase of his possible presidential campaign, said he is "calmly confident" he can win the GOP's presidential nomination but added the final decision could come down to the issue of money.

"We're trying to figure out, can we raise enough money to be competitive?" said Gingrich, known to be among the most prolific fundraisers in the party.

Please, Newt has been running for Prez since the 90s. Obama has accomplished more than he can dream of.

We can say one thing for sure and I am certain Trump's investigators can confirm it. That is, Newt has never been President!

I suppose Newt wasn't a Speaker until he was run out of office for the same thing he pursued his predecessor for, making money from a book deal! This man has two sets of rules, one for him, and one for everyone else. His number one rule is that he has no rules!

"Permanent candidate" describes every politician, though. Exactly what makes Obama any different than George W Bush or Reagan in their first terms? Or how Gingrich would be if he were elected? It's kind of a meaningless statement.

Newt's a "swearer". Mr. Gingrich must believe the swearing in ceremony wasn't conducted properly.
I'm sorry that I cannot refer to you as Mr. Speaker. That title was removed.

Nice shot though, Newt. I thinked you out-thumped Trump today. You banged your drum the loudest.

That's a silly statement to make. if he had said he still hasn't become very "Presidential" I might concede that, but his statement as given, is silly.

That's a very good example of why, he is wasting his time running for President, himself.

Left-wing activist? If Obama tried to be any more moderate or caved any more to the whiny cry-baby demands of the GOP he would be accused of being Bush. He already was stuck with all of Bush's baggage with TARP, 2 unfunded wars, and a huge budget deficit. Newt is the perpetual hypocrite...don't quit your day job over at Fox News – Facts Don't Matter.

At lease President Obama didn't have 84 Ethics charges and get kick out of the House of congress like you did Newt Gingrich. Is that all you Republican can do Is Complain. Why don't you Republican come up with something you would do. Like go after big Oil Company, have BIG BUSINESS pay taxes and how about Taxing the RICH. Instead of only coming after the Middle ,the POOR and the OLD.

Talk about Shallow.......he knows it's not about money....he couldn't win no matter how bad he bashes the President...if you Republicans want our vote then your going to have to come up with some better canidates than you have......so far your list is pathetic....Trump, Palin, Bachmann, Gingrich, to name a few.....these canidates make you the laughing stock of America......

Such sour grapes for Newt, who has never himself 'become President'. Seems like family, a physician, pastor....somebody would have a talk with Newt and stop him from consistently making a complete fool of himself.

It is about time SOMEBODY starts telling it like it is! THANKS NEWT!

Obama possesses ZERO LEADERSHIP SKILLS. He let Pelosi and Reid lead him around by the nose for 2 years. All he knows how to do is attack people and campaign.

Too funny coming from the man who threw a tizzy fit because he wasn't given preferential treatment (including his own seating arrangements on Air Force One) during the Clinton years. Don't waste your breath worrying about PRESIDENT Obama, Newtie. He's carrying the title (and the attached burden) which you'll never hold (or understand) just fine.

While many of us conclude that "he" or "she" will never win the presidential election, it is true that one of these Bozos will eventually get the GOP nod – but they all seem so unlikely don't they?
