Dems raise money off birther bills

Washington (CNN) - The ongoing birther issue might be a pain in Obama's backside, but at least some Democrats are seeking to raise money off of it.

The Democratic Governors Association sent an e-mail to supporters Thursday seeking contributions to "stop these senseless political games."

The DGA notes that legislatures in Indiana and Louisiana are considering bills similar to that which Arizona Gov Jan Brewer, a Republican, just vetoed: requiring all presidential candidates to show their birth certificates in order to appear on statewide ballots.

"No matter how many times it's disproven, Republicans still embrace the dangerous conspiracy theory that President Obama wasn't born in this country and is not eligible to hold office. It's just not true," the e-mail says. "But that hasn't stopped Republicans in numerous state legislatures from introducing 'birther' bills aimed specifically at undermining President Obama."

So why not ask His American Grandparents – They lived in HI when he was born, a matter of fact why have we not heard from that side of his family?

Nothing proves Republican/Tea Party evilness like privatizing Social Security and Medicare- that should be a money maker.

Nothing proves Republican Tea Party idiocy and unfitness to hold political office like "Birtherism"-another money maker!

do any of you "birther" morons realize that hawaiian state law is the reason obama's birth certificate has not been released? hawaii does not release birth certificates to the public, which is why obama had a certificate of live birth released (which is a fully legal document released by the hawaiian state government). so why don't you take a long look in the mirror and call yourself something other than a "birther"...i think "IGNORANT RACIST MORON" is more fitting....btw enjoy the miserable conspiricy driven lives you lead.

It's not the "place of birth" question that is the problem........it's the reaction to the question that is the problem. Any rational person in Obama's place would calmly release his original long-form birth certificate. His reaction(and that of most democrats) is not the normal reaction that one would expect.

Rickster, Rickster, Rickster..............why on earth would he do that, when he can do nothing and watch the Birthers make fools of themselves and lose all credibility all at the same time?

Interesting that on all these blogs the democrat supporters use all kinds of insulting language to describe people that don't agree with them. Seems to me they are describing themselves rather than republicans. The only ones being hypocritical are the democratic supporters. Before I get labeled, I am independent and basically observing from outside the bickering back and forth.

Truth is that obama is right on the issues so when the debates come they will try to discredit him by bringing this non issue untrue birther issue up. the sad thing is that there are very intelligent people that are buying into this mess or spreading it and that is a crying shame. Most of them are benefiting from obama proposals that are focusing on the middle class. So im wondering what is the truth behind there shady lies

It is in the U.S. Constitution that the President must be a natural born citizen of the US. Why is there any question that anyone running for President must present a valid, registered birth certificate before going any further? If they can't prove the first requirement, the campaign is over.

Ironic that the people who base half their BS politics (i.e. health care reform reversal) and the future of our economy on "states rights" won't accept a state certified document...

Get a life Republican nutjobs! Of course the GOP wants to hype this up...because the Republicans have a HORRIBLE track record and have nobody to blame but themselves for the disaster Obama had to fix.

I agree with the above "Weezie". Too much underhanded stuff going on with the Repubs, not to even mention the "birthers" which they are diectly responsible for. "By hook or crook" is their motto AND smoke and mirrors is
    their game.

Anyone with some sense can see that this failure of a president has lied to the American people since day one. I was a Democrat but never again. This loser has devided us not untited us. Its funny to see all of these libtards trying to sound like they have an education when you know that most of them are unemployed and are living off of all of the other hard working Americans that really do care about this country.CNN , MSNBC, The New York Times, The View, and 99% of Hollywood will never say anything negative about this clown. And you call this a trust worthy news station? LMAO keep drinking the kool aide.

At "least" 6 states are getting ready to pass legislation requiring "proof" of eligibility to run for President. Obama will not be able to hide from this issue much longer. And, as many have said--if he has a birth certificate, this will not be a problem. Did you hear about the new book that is being released on May 17--more headaches for Obama. The book is by Dr. Jerome Corsi, and it is already on the best sellers' list at Amazon. Obama is one and done!! The majority of the country is not made up of blind, clueless, gullible, Obama drones.

'32mMD – Did you know that by law if someone is born outside of Hawaii and a relative lives in Hawaii, that foreign born individual can get a US birth certificate?! '
Really? do please tell us where we can find this 'law'?

'Rickster – It's not the "place of birth" question that is the problem........it's the reaction to the question that is the problem. Any rational person in Obama's place would calmly release his original long-form birth certificate. His reaction(and that of most democrats) is not the normal reaction that one would expect.'
really? a fringe group of people refuse to accept the evidence presented to them as being enough and their actions are being tied to the GOP and making them look like loonies. Sounds to me that it would make perfect political sense to let that drag out. He knows he is never going to get the birther votes no matter what so why deal with them?

Allow me to re-write the open line of this article.
"Based on the ignorance of so many conseratives, the Demcrats are coughing up big bucks to help educate those sheep out there that follw those making the most noise."
Healtcare reform was favored by most Americans in large numbers until the uninformed listend to lies and misrepresentation of the bill by so many conservative. Democrats are just protecting themselves agianst the same type of campaign about the Presidents birthplace.

"Raise all the money he wants. He's good at wasteful spending. He's going down in 2012 and if he has sense he knows it."

Gleda, Glenda, Glenda, you really must stop listening to the idiots and do a little research on your own. President Obama is the president because the Repugs had no one in 2008 ( McCain-Palin: what a joke ) and they have no one now. NO ONE ! He has made progress, but the problem is that people like you live in a dream world. Do you even realize what this man inherited from GWB/Cheney ? Open your eyes and your mind. Remember, he is only 1/2 black, Geeze !

If there was any question as to someone's citizenship, that should be handled at first thought before any primaries are started. At this point, I don't see why there would be any thought that a non-citizen would run for the presidency at all (also includes the VP as well).
