Fact check: Trump's voting record

NEW YORK (CNN) – Donald Trump's affirmation that he's voted in every general election disagrees with actual voting records, according to a spokeswoman with the New York City Board of Elections.

“I voted in every general election,” Trump told CNN affiliate NY1 by phone Friday. “I have records that I voted and so does the Board of Elections. … I signed in at every election.”

However, voting records obtained by the board of elections show that Trump did not vote in the 2002 general election, according to Valerie L. Vazquez, director of communications at the board.

The records also show that Trump skipped at least three presidential primaries and two mayoral primaries over the past 25 years, Vazquez said Friday.

Vazquez has found voting records by Trump for only two party primaries – the 1989 GOP mayoral primary and last year’s GOP primary for several statewide races, including governor and U.S. Senate.

Vazquez said she was able to obtain the voting records using both Trump’s voting bus cards, used prior to 1992 to document a voter’s activity, as well as through the BOE's electronic records database, used from 1992 to the present. Both the bus cards and electronic records provide the ballot time and whether it was cast on site or by absentee vote. Records also showed Trump has changed his party registration three times over the past 20 years.

Vazquez was confident that her records are complete, saying there is not a loophole that would hide a possible vote.

But when asked by NY1 Friday about the discrepancy presented by information from the election board and his claim, Trump said, "You're going to pay a big price because you're wrong."

A call to Trump for comment was not immediately returned.

CNN's Susan Candiotti contributed to this report.

Trump is not only clueless but a liar as well ! Doesn't he know that thing's like this can easily be checked out ? This is further evidence that Donald Chump is playing everyone for sucker's he is just trying to get publicity for himself ! There is no way that he could withstand the scrutiny of an election cycle !

Is it any wonder why one never says (vitually) "bring it on"; a la Gary Hart. There will always be someone to check; if not for doing their job, at least for possible destruction.

What were Obama's qualifications for President ... 20 years in Wright's church? ... radical friends, like Ayers? ... voting present 125 times in the Senate? ... Zero business experience? ... and yet you fools worship Obama, while criticizing a self-made billionaire, who has created countless jobs, loves America, and would be a thousand times better at fixing our economy than the empty suit, Obama !!!

Not a Trump supporter by any means but this article is a lie wrapped in half-truth.
Primaries are not general elections. The investigator didn't find Trump lying, the lying is coming from those who are trying to say that primaries are general elections so as to make it appear that Trump is lying.

CNN...oh the depths to which you have fallen...

Hey Nina, what's your voting record? You got a problem with a guy who has some average American characteristics being president?

Whether I like Trump or not, this is misleading. A general election and a primary election are two different things. His statement revolved around general elections, not primaries. Poor attempt to skew facts.

So Trump is either a liar or has Alzheimer's ....Either way, obviously unqualified to be dog catcher (with apologies to all dog catchers), let alone POTUS.

Donald Trump skipped primary elections...a lot of people do that. I could never vote in the Primaries when I became Constitution Party member, because I wasn't allowed to do that. Be that as it may be...Obama had a scanty voting record when in the Senate, choosing to No Vote, rather than vote on at least 12 important issues. Obama fails to show the public his Certified Certificate of Live Birth, so we're all happy that he could have been born in the USA. So far, no document has been shown which states, his place of Birth (Which Hospital?), or the Doctor who delivered him (???). Flakey to say the least. At least we know Trump is a United States born citizen and is still qualified to run as President....Not a Kenyan Born Nationalist, touting himself as a United States Citizen....if I'm wrong...prove it...as Trump would say.

I would never want Trump to be President but holding this against him is ludicrous. He voted in all but three election his entire life. I wonder how many other people can say that about themselves. There are so many other reasons he shouldn't be president; this is not one of them.

Not that I believe much of what Don Trump says, but a primary isn't a general election.

Who the heck cares?!! You know, people that actually WORK and HAVE JOBS sometimes find it hard to get to the polls. Maybe he was out of the country? How ridiculous... I guess Trump really IS making the Democrats nervous if they are bringing up this kind of BS.
