GOPers react to Obama's birth certificate

(CNN) - Republicans are reacting on Twitter and via statements to President Obama’s surprise release of his birth certificate Wednesday:

Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor
@SarahPalinUSA Media: admit it, Trump forced the issue. Now, don't let the WH distract you w/the birth crt from what Bernanke says today. Stay focused, eh?

Mitt Romney, former and likely presidential candidate
@MittRomney What President Obama should really be releasing is a jobs plan

Republican National Committee
@RNCResearch Obama's release of his birth cert. is a nice, but temporary distraction for him from high gas prices & a terrible economy

Michael Steel, spokesman to House speaker John Boehner, in a statement:
"This has long been a settled issue. The Speaker’s focus is on cutting spending, lowering gas prices, and creating American jobs.”

Tony Fratto, former Bush press secretary
@TonyFratto So the President is playing his Trump card

Mike Murphy, GOP strategist
@murphymike Now... Do I get to see Trump's income tax returns? Say, last ten years?

I'm more concerned about where the ReFASCISTican House jobs bill is Mitt. They ran on jobs and haven't presented a jobs bill. Where's your jobs bill Mitt? I bet you dont want to release it because it's probably really liberal and then you'll have to flip flop on it like you did with YOUR healthcare law.

There's far too little talk about jobs, and far too little talk about windfall profit taxes, and far too little talk about reigning in CEO compensation, and far too little talk about higher import taxes on American Corporations importing goods from off shore, as a "penalty" tax for not manufacturing on shore.

In other words, there isn't much problem solving going on, now is there????

Hilarious, I can't wait to laugh at right wingers after the election results in 2012.....AGAIN, the tears they had afterwords at the McCain rallies here were priceless. After the 2010 election when (wait for it) 41% of the electorate voted and the infamous "shellacking" happened, righties were dancing in the streets. The look of anquish, failure, dissapointment, and fear..........worth more that it's weight in gold. I'll take any and all bets Obama wins in 2012......who's courageous enough to loose your SS check....anyone

Now I hope that those who were taken in repent, and realize who is for the Average American, and not big Business, Lobbist, tea party, and birthers.

CNN–Why do you give so much publicity to a freak. If Donald didn't have himself to build his ego nobody else would. He is a digusting piece of humanity who needs lessons in proper behaviors and speech.

It's interesting to see the clear divide in the Republican party between the nutcases (Sarah Palin, Donald Trump and their supporters) versus those who are actually committed to trying to improve the country (John Boehner and Mitt Romney).

Palin and Trump are bad for the Republican party and bad for America. These two, among others, fuel the irrational flames of paranoia that exist at the edge of their party and serve only to divide this country. Already, Palin/Trump supporters are claiming that the birth certificate is a forgery. Unless Trump can produce the "shocking" evidence that he claims his investigators have found, then the responsible thing to do is put this issue to rest. Trump's credibility now rests on how he handles the release of this birth certificate; he continue to question the president's validity to be in office or he can address the real issues that face America. If Trump or Palin will not put this issue to bed, then Boehner or Romney must.

The swiftboat lie continued to damage John Kerry long after it was discredited. The Republican lie machine has never stopped serving that party. And they have never had to pay for any of their lies.

If anyone doubts the power of American media, let this Birth Certificate story be a lesson. The media allowed a egomaniac such as Trump to run with a story that was easily proven to be false, and even now, the media is focusing on a discussion of the motivation behind releasing the Birth Certificate (the Certificate which has already been reviewed ad nauseum) as if it were a REAL issue which needed the public's attention. President Obama's Birth Certificate has been on record in HAWAII since the date of his birth in HAWAII. The media motivation behind this distraction? A really, really lousy budget proposal coming from Paul Ryan, and the GOPers inability to defend it.

As many have said - he released it, now the GOP is upset; before he released it, the GOP was upset. See a pattern? Make up a non-issue, then when the POTUS acts on it, criticize him for doing so! Anyway, the hard-corer birthers will not believe it, so why bother?

I am not sure why the media is giving so much play to a clown like Trump, who is he that he believes that the president of the US requires to prove to him, as to the location of his birth! At the end of the day credibility is indefencible, your friends will know and your enemies you cant convince!

I was never a so-called "birther", but people on this board have to realize that the issue gained full steam years ago when HIS GRANDMOTHER stated she knew for a fact that he was born in Kenya. It wasn't Rush Limbaugh, it wasn't Hannity, it wasn't Palin...it was HIS OWN GRANDMOTHER!!!

With that said, this country has so many problems that this "issue" could only be described as a distraction from the important things we need Washington focused on. Since Obama has taken office, our unemployment is up over 50%, gas prices are up over 100%, the deficit has been tripled, we are now in yet another war and we have even less respect overseas. Are we better off today than we were when he took office...no, and that's something the President should be addressing.

I've already heard from a conservative college of mine. He says that it took all this time for the Obama group to effectively fake the long form of the birth certificate. Heavy sigh!

  13. seriously???

You republicans clamor for years about his birth certificate and now that he shows the long form you make disparaging comments about what he should be doing?? I will NEVER, EVER vote for a republican again. What a bunch of low class slimeballs. Seriously, the scurge of the Earth.

Now that this is settled maybe the GOP members of the house that got elected on job promises can start showing us THEIR plan!! I haven't seen that yet! You don't create jobs by cutting Medicare!

This "Silly Stuff" was started in the primary of 2008 before there was a Tea Party. President Obama could have stopped it anytime he wanted. The Liberals in the media are the ones who really perpetuated this. Every time they interviewed a Republican, they brought it up to demand they refute it. It was used by the media to change the subject from President Obama's horrible record and to drown out the policy message the Republicans were explaining.

Being forced to show this document dispite the media cheerfully mocking everyone, President Obama and his people recognized that it was a real problem. It will be interesting to see how CNN will spin this.

I see the GOP is treating this like the president is attempting to distract us from the issues. However, the White House has stated that he released it so that we can end this "sideshow" and get on to the issues. Red people, please pay attention!

The real shame in this whole matter is how racial this situation actually is, I ask you in the last how many Presidential election did one of the WHITE men have to produce a birth certificate. We all know that prior to any of this a Presidential candidate is vetted for any of this, heck this man was a sitting Senator. Yeah that's right it is racial pure and simple!!! It is actually a shame the man had to do this...says a lot about this Country!!!

The Republlican's are angling for the "Swift Boat" attack that worked for them with Kerry. It won't work this time, won't let them, will be on guard with a retort telling them to take their games to kindergarten, every time I hear a snide and lying remark by some Republican within earshot.
