Obama: 'Nobody checked my ID at the door'

Washington (CNN) - President Obama seemed to take aim at Donald Trump Wednesday evening in New York when he said the reasoning behind the release of his long form birth certificate was “trying to remind the press and trying to remind both parties that what we do in politics is not a reality show. It’s serious.”

The remarks came the same day that Trump, the businessman, reality television personality and possible contender for the 2012 GOP nomination, said he was “proud” of his efforts and took credit for the release of Obama’s long form birth certificate earlier in the day.

“Today was a fun day,” the president said as he began his remarks. “Nobody checked my ID at the door.”

Thank God for our gracious and affable President.
If some of us were at the helm under these circumstances, and with all of these attempts at deligitimizing, and denigrating our presidency, there wouldn't be too much laughter.....especially coming from the Right, believe you me, you betcha.

Obama said he was "trying to remind the press and trying to remind both parties that what we do in politics is not a reality show. It’s serious."

Then why did he release it? If he was going to release it all along, why did he do it on the day that the Fed chairman was giving his first ever press conference? Maybe he is hoping that his birth certificate will take the headlines this week rather than what the Fed chairman says, hoping it won't remind people of the financial crisis he has put us in. It looks to be working, for those too stupid to notice.

The first group of protestors were quickly escorted out of the room, but as the second group was escorted out, Obama said they should be able to stay. “They made their point,” he said.
    THAT'S MY PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A class act all the way. Watch and learn America, and try to if not emulate, at least keep up!!!
    Obama 2012.

No, Mr. President, no one checked your ID at the door as you entered. There will be some folks demanding your ID as you leave. They remind me of the racial profiling state trooper who wants to "check your license and registration" just because you have a nice car; they want to make sure you didn't steal it. When you demonstrate that it is yours, they struggle to find some reason to demonstrate that you did. When that doesn't work you get arrested on general principle and charges made up, witnesses conjured up, evidence created, and any other crimes that you have committed debated.

No, Mr. President, no one checked your ID at the door as you entered. They didn't have to. They know that what is right is on their side. Justice is inevitable.

"Politics is not a reality show." I loved that line Mr. President. I wonder did Trump get the message.

It's hard to believe that Trump could be made to look like even more of a fool than he usually does himself, but thankfully that is exactly what happened.

Go back to your bankrupt (both financially and morally) life Donald, and leave the politics to those that have brains.

And for pete's sake, grow up and lose that ludicrous haircut/combover/bird's nest on your fat orange head. That hair has it's own name. 'Buffoon'.

I think it is great that Obama takes a poke at someone that gets rich off of bankruptcies and the backs of hardworking Americans. Trump has proven that he is an idiot that has no clue how to work with a global economy and has no understanding that fuel prices are high accross the globe and the US has no control over the world prices or OPEC. Trump also fails to see the fact that 80% of imported oil comes from Canada where prices are near $6.00 a gallon at the pump. The country that sends oil to the US for fuel is paying more then the US at the pump. You would think that Trump would understand business but fails to see that the countries that import to the US dont have control of pricing and he is sadly mistaken if he thinks that he can bring down prices. It is a shameful day when a scoundrel like Trump gets airtime to disgrace Americans and the POTUS.

@Indiana Voter -He released it because they lynch mob was on the front lawn. He waited because he had facts on his side. He waited because it should not be required if we live in a land of equal opportunity. He showed his papers just like generations of black males in this country before him.

I wish to congratulate those who celebrate that Mr. Obama appeared to capitulate. You took your country back, just as you have wished all along. You saw an unescorted negro and wished to check his papers to verify that he was not a runaway slave.

I give all due credit to President Obama. I don't have the patience to put up with nutjobs like Trump. I think the glue Trump uses to put on his toupee has seeped into his brain and gummed up the works.

Good job Mr.President! You presented yourself so "Calm and Cool" through this "Stomach Wrenching" Racist movement of the Teaparty and Gop. Never in my life of 57 years, have I ever even thought that "White Supremacy" and Hatred would Rear its "UGLY" face in America! The Republicans have finally shown there true colors with Trump as their Leader. America is falling apart, unless we all vote this party "OUT"!!!!!!

“trying to remind the press and trying to remind both parties that what we do in politics is not a reality show. It’s serious.”

Which is why he goes on Oprah to discuss the issue? Sorry, actions speak louder than words.

Well, the business he is in IS serious, but he wouldn't know it, because he has been too busy campaigning from day one and continues to do that rather than govern our country. Someone should have checked his ID before he even ran for President, because then they would have known how incompetent he is and that it was a horrible mistake for him to even consider running. God help us through what will probably be another four years of him as prez...ugh!

Trump has a big moth to go in public and give himself credit for pushing the president to show his birth certificate and question why it took him all these time to come up with it. He should be ashamed of himself and his disrespect for his president. He is what you call a racist who cannot even come up with his own birth certificate. He should be ashamed to take credit but what do you expect that is people with screwed up minds do. He is a shame to our political system, should stay away from politics and should sit behind his desk and stay there. Mr. president good for you that your reply to the media about the birther issue and making clear the issue is not where I was born, the issue is how to fix the economy and put people back to work. People like Trump who are filthy rich do not care about the average American who is trying to make ends meet. Mr. trump I have a question for you. Is your issue because the president is black or you have a racist attitude. if you do the public does not need you.

Hey Obama – you've already milked as many political points you could out of this rediculous issue. And yesterday, you stated that "there's much more important issues" and that "you didn't have time for this nonsense". I agree. So why don't you follow your own advice and let it go?
