Limbaugh: 'Thank God for President Obama'

Washington (CNN)- Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh first heaped praise upon President Obama only to then qualify his remarks during his syndicated daily show Monday after saying, "Thank God for President Obama."

In a veiled critique, Limbaugh first praised Obama's role in the operation against Osama bin Laden, but later turned sarcastically critical.

"I, me, my, three of the most used words in President Obama's media appearance last night, not a single intelligence adviser, not a single national security adviser, military adviser, came up with the idea...not one of them... according to Obama, had the ability to understand the need to get DNA. This was Obama's message last night," Limbaugh said.

He credited Obama with continuing the "Bush policies" of keeping a military presence in the Middle East and refusing to "scrub the mission to get bin Laden" early in his program.

"Ladies and gentleman, we need to open the program today by congratulating President Obama," he said. "President Obama has done something extremely effective, and when he does, this needs to be pointed out."

And Limbaugh seemingly gushed about the commander-in-chief's competency following what he called the "assassination" of Osama bin Laden Sunday.

"You see the military wanted to go in there and bomb, like they always do…But President Obama, perhaps the only qualified member in the room to deal with this, insisted on the special forces," he explained.

"Our military wanted to go in there and just scorch the earth leaving no evidence of anything after the mission. But President Obama single-handedly understood what was at stake here. He alone understood the need to get DNA to prove the death, Obama alone understood the aftermath."

According to Limbaugh, Obama's success must be linked to former President George W. Bush.

"We need to never forget that President Obama deserves praise for continuing the policies established by George W. Bush which led to the learning, the acquisition of this intel that led us to the enlarged hut in Pakistan that led to the assassination of bin Laden last night," he declared.

"Thank God for President Obama. If he had not been there, who knows what would've happened."

This is scary coming from Limbaugh of all people. I don't trust anything he says. I am not forgetting the ugly, hateful things Limbaugh has said about President Obama, his wife and their two daughters.

I'm speechless! I didn't think there was anything in the world that would warrant this type of response from Limbaugh of President Obama.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rush now placed on the RINO list...

It's stunning Linbaugh would have the guts to admit Obama is more than qualified to be President, but notice he had to stick some credibility on Bush. Leave Bush out of this, he got us into a godawful war, now it's Obama's time for praising.

Never would have expected this from Rush Limbaugh. But he sure demonstrated that he can be a class act when he wants to. This should serve him well in the future. Well said Mr. Limbaugh

Rebecca are you that naive to think this was actual praise for the President? This article is horrible. He was obviously being sarcastic, takinga backhanded shot at Obama. The true people who are responsible for this developement are the USA foot soldiers who have spent the last 10 years working to bring this man to justice. Not Obama, not Bush. It's the men and women of the armed services and CIA. It's blantantly clear that Rush was taking a shot at Obama for his declaration that he ordered this operation to kill Obama as if he and he alone was the one responsible for the deatth. Bush deserves just as much credit if not more than Obama since the inteligence and armed services were overhauled on his watch. The courier who led us to Osama was identified and started tracking during the last few years of Bush's term. You should be ashamed of this article, and update it accordingly.

"He never could have succeeded without following the plan set in motion by George Bush." Uh, I think Bush turned his back on Bin Laden and pretty much ignored him. Bush/Cheney were more focused on the tail, "Al Qaeda in Iraq", than the head, Bin Laden.

"There was no Al Qaeda in Iraq until the U.S. was in Iraq." Barack Hussein Obama responding to remarks by Dick Cheney.

Amazing the fantasy scenarios he and his buddies can dream up. Is there any evidence that the military wanted to just go in and destroy everything?

I guess there is something positive that Limbaugh said. It did appear to me that Limbaugh believes that Obama is working policies that Bush left him. I don't think that is totally the case.

Fox News has been reporting most all of the day that the critical intel came from a Gitmo detainee in 2005. They are the only network or media outlet making that report. Every other media outlet has a time line for this succes story beginning with a directive to Leon Pannetta, then CIA Chief, to find and capture or kill Bin Laden.

I guess that truth is somewhere in the middle of those two versions of events. Here's the way I read it. Someone picked up a trail that had been laying around totally ignored for several years.

I love it that CNN and others are reporting with a straight face that Rush ACTUALLY INTENDED to praise Obama. He didn't.
And anyone who listens to Rush would know he was just being the usual sarcastic fool he always is. And now the nation's number one hater of President Obama and America is having to make it clear that those remarks were intended as sarcasm.

Always Remember: Rush wants Obama to fail – at everything – including killing Bin Laden.
This is a bad day for Rush and FOX. They have to find some way of continuing their relentless attack on Obama in the light of this President accomplishing something that their heroes Bush/Cheney failed to do in the eight years they were in office.

Come on, CNN! I listened to Limbaugh's show this morning. You obviously didn't and probably never have listened to his show. The point is that Obama has betrayed his campaign promises and realized that Bush's policies were right all along. The commentary was sarcastic at best, in terms of regard for Obama's "leadership." Be more responsible in your journalism.
