Lineup set for first GOP debate; big names take a pass

Washington (CNN) – The lineup for the first Republican presidential debate of the 2012 cycle is all but set, a GOP source told CNN Tuesday.

Thursday's debate in Greenville, South Carolina, sponsored by Fox News and the South Carolina Republican Party, will feature five potential candidates, the source said: Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson and businessman Herman Cain.

To qualify for the debate, participants were required to meet a series of criteria, including paying a $25,000 filing fee to the state GOP in order to be placed on next year's primary ballot.

The deadline for that filing fee is 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

The finalized lineup lacks several marquee names, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who said Monday he will skip the debate, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who originally planned to take part but later decided not to.

The South Carolina Republican Party would not comment on the lineup and said they would announce details of the event on Wednesday.

What a bunch of wusses! President Obama attended dozens of debates and gave hundreds of interviews. These GOPers are too chicken to get together to answer some simple questions .... baack, baack, baack!

Here's what I'd like to see one of these GOPers have the stones to say:

    1. President Obama was born in Hawaii. Case closed!

    2. The widely-circulated Internet rumor that President Obama wrote in his book, "Audacity of Hope" ("I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.") is patently false.
The real quote is "They [Arab and Pakistani Americans] need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

I want to see the yahoos stand up to the childish, hate-filled "base" they so lovingly cater to. Until they can do that, they are nothing but a bunch of opportunistic losers putting party before country EVERY TIME.

What a bunch of clowns. Should be nap time for anyone attending. Good luck because you are really going to need it come 2012.
I also see that what's her face from AK is finally being left out of any possibility of being anything more than the reality TV ho she already is. Maybe she is looking for her unwed high school dropout daughter of hers and that god awful plastic surgery botched job that somebody did on her. She can't be recognized as the old unwed single mother. Then again, if I had her as my mother I would try to disappear and change my appearance. There might be something psychological to this whole new, really, person. Once again liposuction would have been better.!
