(CNN) - President Obama's decision to release his birth certificate appears to have satisfied all but a tiny fringe who continue to believe he was not born in America.
According to a recently released Washington Post poll, only 3 percent of Americans now believe the president was born abroad while 77 percent say he was definitely born in the United States. Nearly 20 percent have no opinion on that matter.
A similar Washington Post poll conducted a year ago found 14 percent of Americans believed the president was born in another country while 68 percent thought he was born in the United States.
Obama released his birth certificate last week, saying the controversy surrounding the issue had become a "sideshow."
The surprise release followed recent and sustained remarks by businessman Donald Trump, among others, raising doubts as to whether the president was born in the United States.
The poll was conducted April 28-May 1 and surveyed 1,006 Americans by telephone. It carries a sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

@ Johnny Popper, Remember the "requisite document reflecting signatures of witnesses to a birth" in Hawaii is no longer a legally accepted document...The legal "certificate of live birth" has been available for years...I think the timing was perfect, the President gave Trump, and the birthers, the time to reach stage 5, foot & mouth....

Bill Clinton deserves the credit for Bin Laden because he created the investigative teams that formed the core of Bush administration's covert intelligence group. Yup, that what I said. Bill Clinton deserves the credit for Bin Laden.
You see it is like a relay race, where each President passes the baton to the next. Bill was the first guy out of the blocks. He did not get himself disqualified by jumping the gun. Bush ran the middle leg of the race, stayed in his lane, but almost got himself disqualified for bumping into people. Obama ran picked up the baton and ran the anchor leg. He actually had to come from behind to secure the victory due to lost time when Bush bumped into another runner, (Bin Laden).
Maybe they just don't like him?

Those people who still do not believe that President Obama was born in Hawaii must have problems reading, and seeing. They better see a doctor to correct their problems (mostly mental blockage).

Oh brother. So we're to feel sorry that a giant percentage of the birthers were (a) so stupid that they wouldn't accept what the rest of the world knew and understood to be sufficient and legal PROOF of his birth in Hawaii in 1961, (b) so determined to cling to the hope that he wasn't actually a natural born citizen that they held out until the last nail went into their fantasy world's coffin but (c) jsut smart enough to know that you have to pull out of the tailspin or your crash and burn?

Which Bush disbanded in 2005 and Obama had to put back together. It was called Alec Station. You want to use the relay race analogy? In this case, the baton was full on dropped, breaking the chain, and the race was only won because Obama picked it back up and ran with it.

I wonder how many times Obama had to show his birth certificate throughout his his life ? School,drivers licence,college,University,passport,social security number, US Senator,POTUS, then once again for POTUS and finally people believe !
