Birth certificate eases most - but not all - Obama doubts

(CNN) – While the release of President Barack Obama's so-called "long form" birth certificate has increased the number of Americans who think the president was born in the United States, 17 percent continue to believe that he was born in another country, according to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll.

But Republicans, in particular, now seem more willing than ever to throw in the towel and move on to other topics: 80 percent of all Americans now believe Obama was definitely born in the U.S. - up 8 points since March - with most of that movement coming among Republicans.

In March, a bare majority of those in the GOP believed that Obama was born in the U.S.; now that is up by 17 points, to 69 percent - still much lower than the number of independents (80 percent) and Democrats (89 percent) who feel that way.

Older Americans and those with college educations also seem most likely to have been swayed by the release of the birth certificate.

The CNN poll follows a recent Washington post survey that found 77 percent of Americans definitely believed Obama was born in the United States.

The poll surveyed 1,035 adult Americans by telephone from April 29-May 1 2011. It carries a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points

This article contradicts Fox News where it is still a major issue. They are still promoting the idea that the birth certificate that was released was faked up using Photoshop. They would do the same with Bin Laden photos.

Ok, so we agree the majority is satisfied. LETS MOVE ON and please media, STOP reporting on this. I think we can all also agree we are all SICK of hearing about this..I didnt even read the article just felt compelled to plead with you to just give this a rest.. This whole birther thing was already embarrassing and offensive enough for the USA. Why give these people attention, you are giving them exactly what they want.

I can't believe that only 77% definitely believe he was born in the US. I guess it just goes to show there are a number of people out there who are conspiracy theorists, delusional or both.

Those who still don't believe that the President was born here, they don't believe in themselves that they were born and are living. How can it be a normal living person can live without reasoning??

To many American citizens it has NEVER been WHERE but more the legal immigration questions of citizenship that have just been legitimized by Obama's birth certificate release. I believe it a moot point at present regarding his validity however I do believe that those legal questions surrounding duality, minor mother, foreign father, etc. have cast serious doubt on what was presented to America as vetting of the Ultimate Idol Savior by the Democrats and their propaganda shills...that and a track record of continued 9% reported, 20% unreported unemployment and 14.3 trillion other reasons are why we will have a new President come 2012.

Birthers, deathers, Holocaust deniers, moon lander fakers ... what all these folks have in common is a touch of paranoia and an inability to accept things they don't like. It's all part of their survival mechanisms to make it in this complicated, sometimes scary world.

No amount of facts will ever change their minds, so the best the rest of us can do is think and then get out and vote.

And 98% of the time, that translates into voting for a Democrat.

I wonder about these polls. CNN had one yesterday that said it was down to 3% of American believed Obama wasn't a U.S. citizen.

The entire Birth Certificate thing was used as a distraction to prove that SOME republicans are very easily distracted. There were questions about the timing. Well, I think those questions were answered. While President Obama was holding his long form birth certificate in one hand, with the other he grabbed bin laden.....Tada! Perfect move by this President, total distraction of the far right! Silencing critics accusing him of not being able to multitask and focus.

    So that's my conspiracy theory.

This is the most entertaining piece of b/s I have seen in a long time! A significant portion of the American public still believe that the first black American president in this country's history has not been vetted enough to show that he was born in the U.S. It gets more comical all the time!!!

President Obama has officially kicked off his 2012 re-election
campaign, and don't Republicans know it. The president is expected any
day now to sign an executive order that routs 70 years of efforts to get
politics out of official federal business.

Under the order, all companies (and
their officers) would be required to list their political donations as a
condition to bidding for government contracts. Companies can bid and
lose out for the sin of donating to Republicans. Or they can protect
their livelihoods by halting donations to the GOP altogether—which is
the White House's real aim. Think of it as "not-pay to play."

Whatever you call it, the order
amounts to the White House brazenly directing the power of government
against its political opponents—and at a time when the president claims
to want cooperation on the budget and other issues.

Ever audacious, the White House is spinning this as "reform," claiming
taxpayers deserve to know how federal dollars being paid to contractors
are being spent in campaigns. This might hold (a drop of) water if the
executive order also required all the (liberal) entities that get
billions in taxpayer dollars via federal grants and funding—unions,
environmental groups, Planned Parenthood—to disclose also. It doesn't.

Many may not believe Obama was born in the US but there is one thing that is certain. President Obama IS the POTUS and there is a "long form" available to prove it. The most non-believers like Palin and Orliey Taize can do is choke on it.

This will all be moot after November 2012.... Obama will be out of the Whitehouse and following Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton around.

What does it say about Americans that should have known better than to buy into this Tea Party attempt to de-legitimize the President and Commander-in-Chief through nasty, race-bating methods?

It really hurts to know there are millions of gullible Americans that are easily swayed by the likes of Donald Trump and Tea Party haters who sow the seeds of hate and lies, knowing that those that are so easily disposed to racism would take the bate.

Shame on the Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, the Tea Party, and the millions of idiotic Americans that bought into the birther lie and continue to spread the evil.

When did you think that in America that the Federal Government at the direction of a Union would direct a private entrepreneurial business where they could establish their manufacturing plant?

Yeah, Obama is a real red blooded American.

Bert, it's too late. The GOP have already embarrassed themselves numerous times: WMD, Death Panels, "Keep your government hands off my medicare", and the list goes on. Now they're arming themselves for death conspiracies about OBL. The GOP will never learn and will always be a source of embarrassment for the USA.
