Economy adds 244k jobs in April

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - The jobs recovery picked up speed in April, as business payrolls swelled and the unemployment rate rose as more people returned to the workforce.

The economy added 244,000 jobs in the month, the Labor Department reported Friday. That's up from the 235,000 jobs gained in March. Economists surveyed by CNNMoney were expecting a slight slowdown to a gain of just 185,000 jobs.

Why don't we look at how many GOVERNMENT jobs have been added the past two years compared to how many private sector jobs? It is scary.
Also, of the private sector jobs, take a look at WHERE they are being added. It is in places like Texas that have slashed taxes on business and made it friendly for companies, instead of punishing them.

Obama has not a clue and apparantly neither does his economic advisors..... unless growing government and destroying the economy is his goal.

Personally, I don't think it is, but you do have to wonder.

The economy added jobs despite the best efforts by GOTP governers across the country to cut as many public sector jobs as they could. Let's hope the price of gas and oil does stall the economy. Everything I have seen looks up as old construciton projects are now back "go", and the banks are more willing to loan to Main St. and the middle class.

For those who think the President can bring down the high price of oil (which by extension means gas prices) consider this: Between the years 1998 and 2008 The People's Republic of China increased their oil imports by a whopping 300%. Look it up and check it for yourself.

The bush/cheney depression is finally rolling to a stop. Thank you President Obama! We for sure cant thank the right wing that was elected to create jobs at this point, all they have done is try to kill Medicare, Planned Parenthood, bust unions and bad mouth our country and president. Those actions by the republicants created a total number of how many jobs?

I know of half a dozen people who have been hired since the start of the year. Most of them had been out of work for over a year. The most signicant part in all of this is that all of these people are middle aged. To me, that is a sure sign of strong economy when the middle aged are being hired. Companies are looking for know-how instead of cheap labor.

Looks like the Republicans are following through on their promise of creating jobs. That is what the liberals on here were wanting, so now they are getting it. Jobs started disappearing when Democrats took control of Congress in 2006, and now they are starting to return now that Republicans have control of the House. Just think how many would come back if Republicans took back control of the Senate too! Moral of the story: Democrats kill jobs, Republicans create jobs.

    SWEET!!!

To all you who have been asking "Where are the jobs?", just go ask the 244,000 who got one. Thank you, Republicans and Speaker Boehner!!!

@Dave So, we looked at private sector jobs and they rose in April by 268,000. Government jobs actually decreased. So your premise is incorrect. PA also added more jobs because they are selling their souls to the natural gas industry. Residents in the Northern areas are fighting horrible road damage and polluted wells.

Riiiiight...and I suppose the coincidence of the GOP being in office and spring weather appearing also creates a causal relationship in your ideology-addled brain. Thank you GOP for changing the seasons. Yawn.

@ Indiana Voter– I am willing to pay for you to take a class in economic. Obvious, your comments thinks that an economy shift every 5 days. That would support your (uninformed) beliefs that things went bad when Obama was President and good when Republicans gain control of the House of Representatives. If that was true, the unemployment rate could be 2% by the end of the month. Why don't you point out one job-creations measure that the House has passed since last January. Pleaaasssseeeeee take an economic class, if only for your personal pride.

Thanks to thinking like yours, future generations can have a link to the same willing, uninformed, bias thinking of the 1800's.

Why not?? In Apr – May of '09, you and the rest of your liberal cronies were sure as heck giving Obama and the dems credit. Yawn.

Thank you who? Get out of La La Land. You don't even believe that BS yourself. 13 straight months of private sector growth. Boehener has only been Speaker since January. Good attempt trying to spin this one, but it just doesn't add up. Where is the Republicans jobs bill?

Amusing! Libs keep screaming "where are the jobs that the GOP promised when they took control of the house?" Then when employment improves and more folks are working it's because Obama and his give way of funds to unions and special interest groups have finally taken effect. How do you know which jobs were brought about by which action. I think confidence of small business owners in the present congress to not raise taxes and add more regulations is helping the most.

Typical Sniffit – if facts don't support his ideology (becalse he's ALWAYS right and will be the first to tell you), out comes the ad hominem attacks. You're nothing if not consistent.
