Obama hits Fox News

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama used an immigration speech Tuesday to take a jab at News Corporation CEO, Rupert Murdoch, who owns Fox News Channel.

Obama quoted the CEO, an Australian native, who said "Immigrants have made America great as the world leader in business, science, higher education and innovation."

"That's Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox News, and an immigrant himself," Obama said. "I don't know if you're familiar with his views, but let's just say he doesn't have an Obama bumper sticker on his car."

The president was in El Paso, Texas to advocate for immigration reform as a way to strengthen the middle class, among other things.

"I want incomes for middle class families to rise again," Obama said. "I want prosperity in this country to be widely shared; I want everybody to be able to reach that American dream and that's why immigration reform is an economic imperative."

Fox News is like some stupid movie that comes out every so often that appeals only to uneducated viewers wanting cheap titilation and no substance that tops the box office. While other movies that require you to think get great reviews and awards, but do not do well in the ratings.

RRB, your comments are naive. For all the right wing conservatives that are out there bashing illegal immigrants, answer these simple questions:

    1) How did your ancestors get here and can you prove they did it "legally". The majority of Itlaians, Irish and Chinese that came here just before and during the Industrial Revolution, came illegally. Without passports or any other paperwork. Again, Can you prove that your ancestors got here legally?

    2) Why does the U.S. Chamber of Commerce publically support immigration reform while quietly lobbying very hard against any reform? The answer is that if you make those 12 million people legal in some sense, there goes all the cheap labor. Once they are legal, they're going to want better wages and benefits. Business doesn't want that. That would take profits away.

    3) The current system is broken. It allows almost no "labor grade" immigration and those that they do allow (engineers, software developers, scientists, etc) are trapped in an INS hell that takes years to get through. We educate these people at our universities but then tell them to leave. In the meantime, India, China and the rest of Asia are blowing by us in the technology sectors. By the time all the neandrethals realize it, it will be too late.

So when he speaks of immigration reform, it's not just about finding a way for those who came here illegally to stay. It's about fixing a lot of other problems beyond a border fence. And as for the 12 million here. I say let them stay because it will be a hell of a lot cheaper to convert them to tax paying citizens than to find them, hold hearings (takes years....again broken system) and try and deport them You say you want to cut spending....there is a good start.

Frank – What the POTUS does to create division in the US is just one thing:
    He's not Republican.
And why such a silly thing matters so much?
Because he's not Republican he does not follow the Republican aganda (Oh the horror!!!!), and the Republicans automatically start to spread the lie that if he doesn't follows the Republican's agenda, then he's out to destroy the country.
    Simple isn't?

Seebofubar says "they are mostly un-educated and un-motivated, but they can still vote...." - LOL!!!!!! My neighborhood made up of Lawyers, Engineers, successful Small-Business Owners, etc., was full of OBAMA 2008 signs and will be full of OBAMA 2012 signs. We all support President Obama's focus on helping the middle class, investing in the future and solving our country's serious problems such as healthcare and immigration that the GOP won't touch. The GOP/Tea Party wants to take us way backwards and the middle class will no longer exist if their policies are allowed to continue.

I don't think anyone has an issue with Immigrants. But many many people seem to forget the work illegal. Honestly immigration reform is not needed. Illegal Immigration reform/laws/control is definitely needed.

If Rupert Murdoch himself opposes immigration in America, then he needs to GO BACK TO / take his behind to Australia, simple.

[}It is painfully clear that our supposedly intelligent President doesn't understand the difference between legal and controlled immigration..."]

It is PAINFULLY clear that this blogger does NOT know the difference between coming here possibly "Legally?" – Then STEAL the land from the Native Americans – Then later later on call out for others to FLOCK here as "Illegal" immigrants – Continue to SETTLE and take more and more land and OWN IT – Then when their GREED was just enough to satisfy them they created LAWS and RULES for everyone else who comes here "illegally" but for a BETTER LIFE!!! Typical RIGHT WING thinking!!

    ...............................Pass the DREAM ACT now!!!

GFLDED – That's the line of the argumentation (based on studies and proved facts) used in Europe since the 80's. It's not that part of the unemployment exists because the illegal immigrants there accepts to work for less than a native would if he did the same job. It's because there are jobs that the natives don't do anymore (with very few exceptions!) or want to do it with a salary that would made the job absurdly costly to the employer.
It's easy to say 'they are stealing our jobs!', but how many of those who say it would accept to do said jobs?

"Only when this Obama disaster has been removed from the Whitehouse. This country cannot not survive another 4 years of his socialist divisive fiscal insanity."

Please define socialism. Then, please apply the definition to the three (3) Obama/Dem policies you feel best fit into that definition in order to prove your claim that he's a "socialist."

    Hint: can't be done.

The people complaining about illegals performing back-breaking labor in the vegetable and fruit industries, construction and anything else that is low paid and physically draining would not hesitate a second to hire illegals for their own needs as with Mitt Romney and company. As for crime, etc., both Jon Kyl and McCain lied non-stop about supposed crime waves in their own states caused by illegals when the Az. Dept. of Public Safety says crime has fallen every year since 2006.

The irony of Murdoch's comment is that he hires so many hate-mongers for his news network that want to deport everyone, regardless of the circumstances. Illegal is illegal, but in a justice system that can allow corporation to pollute, not pay taxes ad defruad the country, surely there is a place for discussion on immigration.

Please remember that President Obama has handled illegal immigration more effectively than any other president in recent history. I do think that every company, large or small, must run the SS number given through E-Verify before hiring anyone to make sure they are using a SS number that belongs with their name. I love that Obama takes on Faux News.
