Obama hits Fox News

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama used an immigration speech Tuesday to take a jab at News Corporation CEO, Rupert Murdoch, who owns Fox News Channel.

Obama quoted the CEO, an Australian native, who said "Immigrants have made America great as the world leader in business, science, higher education and innovation."

"That's Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox News, and an immigrant himself," Obama said. "I don't know if you're familiar with his views, but let's just say he doesn't have an Obama bumper sticker on his car."

The president was in El Paso, Texas to advocate for immigration reform as a way to strengthen the middle class, among other things.

"I want incomes for middle class families to rise again," Obama said. "I want prosperity in this country to be widely shared; I want everybody to be able to reach that American dream and that's why immigration reform is an economic imperative."

Hey Chuck, he doesn't hate America, just idiots like you. Better question for you Chuck, is why do you claim to love America, but hate Americans.

It is not immigration anyone objects to. Most of us are here today are here because of our immigrant ancestors. It is illegal immigration that is the problem. You want to come here and make a better life for yourself, I have no problem with that. However, I just happen to think that you should become a legal citizen, pay taxes, work, and make your own way. Come to think of it, there are many of our citizens who need to do that also. We have become a country of entitlements and it is what is causing the demise of this great country. Oh, and the "you must be a racist" comments are getting old. If you can't come up with a decent argument, just be quiet. Don't throw out the race card. It lost it's effect a long time ago.

Why is it that liberals do not understand the difference between legal and illegal? It is legal immigrants that Murdock speaks of, BHO only courts illegal aliens.

Why does Rupert Murdock and Fox News hate America so much? They've been nothing but a mouthpiece for radical right wing nuts, idiots, racists, and homophobes. Give 'em hell, Obama!

It isn't just illegal to come to this country illegally. It is also illegal to hire people who came to this country illegally. Those rich employers who are hiring these illegal immigrants are more to blame as the illegal immigrants themselves. They just want cheap labor. And the immigrants come here illegally because of the work.

If we enforce the laws that pertain to the hiring of illegals, forcing these employers to hire legal immigrants and citizens, we not only help to stem the flow of illegal immigrants, we also help reduce the unemployment rate. Both of these results would be good for the economy.

Shut the water off at it's source, don't just try and hold your thumb over the end of the hose. This is true immigration reform.

Your xenophobic tendencies are showing. Too bad. The world is not "Amurikah" and chanting "USA, USA, USA" will not make others who don't look like you disappear.

Welcome to the global village and the 21st century. I doubt, however, that you can manage doing it.

These days....who needs bedsheets and pointy hats anymore?

we got 300 mils in this country already, and high unemployment. why do we need more immigrants? what we need are the jobs, not more people who would make the job market worse.

"Maggie , explain this to me, how exactly can illegal immigrants vote?"

They can never explain their nonsensical beliefs. It's a fear driven deep into their brains by the GOP/conservative movement as part of the "Southern Strategy" so that they will fear massive conspiratorial efforts to commit voter fraud and will go along with plans to suppress minority voting on the theory that "if it ain't white, its vote ain't right." Look at the lead up to November 2010 and you'll see that major areas where LEGAL immigration is changing the color of the majority of the populace were targeted for well-organized and well-funded voter fraud demagoguery parading around as grass roots concern. There's a particular county in TX, can't remember the name, where True the Vote went waaaaay overboard and pretty much provided what should be a case study in pathological race-based conspiracy theory generating denial of the changing face of America. They even at one point were claiming that Dems were busing in illegals to vote, giving them pizza and a t-shirt, and then busing them back over the border. It's all patently absurd and not supported by any empirical evidence, but it's all built on a keystone of irrational anger, fear and hate, so what else can you expect?

Message I e-mailed Obama at the White House:

When college and highschool kids can't get summer jobs because they're all taken by illegal's who can barely speak English, it's a stinking policy. I support all Obama has done, but not this. Americans all should get the jobs first, no pep-talk on why illegal's are good for our Country. Fine them all as law-breakers and send them back, no tears or wringing hands over poor families wanting to stay in U.S. They can do it legally, but not breaking our laws at first step across the border.

Why are you liberals so angry? Illegal aliens are not citizens of this country and they are breaking the law. I find the argument that they pay taxes to be a joke. Everyone is supposed to pay sales tax and some states don't even have sales tax on certain items. So that is a pathetic argument. In CA, where illegal immigration is rampant, if illegal aliens were deported or forced to pay for their own services, then the states deficit of 40 billion would be reduced by half. That means that LEGAL tax paying citizens are supporting 20 billion dollars in illegal alien services. That's absurd. That's not American.

And there is a hug difference between past immigration and current illegal immigration. This country did not have a welfare state when other groups immigrated. The citizens that were already here weren't forced to pay to support the new citizens when they arrived. That's not the case here.

I'm all for amnesty, as long as we hand Mexico a giant invoice for the use of our government services to support their citizens for the past x amount of years.

And you democrats have no shame. You would have non-citizens vote in American elections to prop up your failed ideas and failed politicians no matter what the cost to rightful citizens. And you all claim you are for democracy. More like banana republics.

Please remember that President Obama has handled illegal immigration more effectively than any other president in recent history. I do think that every company, large or small, must run the SS number given through E-Verify before hiring anyone to make sure they are using a SS number that belongs with their name. I love that Obama takes on Faux News.

Do you seriously believe this? President Obama hasn't done jack for immigration reform. Sorry, but he hasn't. He has fought every serious proposal that has been brought to the table (remember Arizona). President Obama is a man, people. He isn't God. He has faults and plenty of them. Oh, and for the record, Bush did a lousy job with immigration reform also. Just wanted to throw that in there before you started with your 'You just don't like President Obama because he is black" mantra.

    Libery and Justice

Ok let me get this straight immigration reform will help the middle class prosper? OMG what has this country come too are the sheep that stupid that they still put up with this B.S. well i guess obama got the latino vote. At the end of the day politics rules over common sense.

Liberty and justice, I'd say that someone is stupid, but not the folks you implied. Illegal immigration depresses wages – depresses all wages. After all, why pay an American $7.50 when you can hire illegal labor at $4.50. By reducing illegal workers, you'll also reduce the likelyhood of wage depression – workers wages will rise, as will the middle class.

It's not "stupid" at all, it's common sense. I guess you were just blinded by your irrational tirade.

RE: "How can anyone stand this guy. Just listening to the garbage that spews from his mouth can make your skin crawl. But what's more amazing is that there are people in this country that actually like what he says...they are mostly un-educated and un-motivated but unfortunately they can still vote..."

At first, I thought you were referring to Glenn Beck and his minions.

Hey, We have already established Murdock doesn't support BHO, so why would he have BHOs comrades as a bumper sticker on his car.

Farm owners have jobs available and all of them aren't just for picking grapes, fruits and vegetables so get in line because that's the Republicans job plan for you once they get rid of the immigrants.

"What Obama failed to mention in his El Paso address was the fact that it was legal immigration that made this country great and not 12 million illegals roaming around and bleeding the United States coffers dry." -Jesseca5

You mean the millions of illegals who cut the meat in the butcherhouse, and deliver it to the supermarket so you can buy them? Or are you referring to the millions of illegals who harvest the corns to be made into cereals you eat everyday? Or are you referring to the millions of illegals who cleaned your hotel room after your family trip?

And you also know that while they pay money into our federal systems like Social Security, but expect to receive nothing because of their status? Bleeding United States' coffer dry? LOL!

This topic definitely brings out the worst in people! Frankly, I like Mexican food, cheap produce, cheap construction/renovation labor, and family oriented people in my life. There will always be clashes between the haves and have nots, and frankly, if all the illegal Mexicans came here legally you'd still hear the same things "gangs, crime, too many children, welfare leeches, etc..." People just need to relax, it's been going on long before you were born and will continue long after you're gone.

Did your grandmother come here from another country? How about your great-grandmother? Under today's rules, she would be turned away and not welcomed into America.

I am for legal immigration too. But I am not for changing the rules without telling anyone, I am NOT for changing what America stands for in this world. Immigrants work harder than native born Americans - because they want it more, to be blunt. They start up businesses at a higher rate than native born Americans. The administration of George W. Bush said that, not me.

I'm tired of the political theater. I want our leaders to stop grandstanding and start adding 12 million new taxpayers to the books, stat.
