Obama calls for 'widespread movement' for immigration reform

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama continued his push for immigration reform Thursday, calling the need for change an economic, security and moral imperative both for "millions of people who live in the shadows" and for the country as a whole.

This is a subject that can "expose our raw feelings," Obama told an audience at the National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast. But we need to "show empathy to our brothers and sisters and try to recognize ourselves in one another."

    If anyone actually believes this President is serious about immigration reform ... you are simply CRAZY! This is simply part of his re-election campaign.

    The only "wide spread movement" we need to see is the movement to secure our borders and send these country invaders back from whence they came! These law breakers and invaders "live in the shadows" because that is how they have chosen to live. If they return to their countries they will be out of the shadows. Problem solved.

    I am also showing empathy for my fellow American brothers and sisters who may be attacked and killed by some of these law breakers. I am also showing empathy for my fellow American brothers and sisters who who get stuck with the bill for millions of these law breakers and country invaders.

    Empathy Mr. President is not in the republican dictionary. If the fascists republicans had it their way, they will deport every Martinez, Ramirez, Rivera and every other latin. Look at the from the perspective of a republican. If immigration reform is passed, that means that they'll have to pay their housekeepers and landscapers reasonable wages. Lou Dobbs criticizes illegal immigrants while he has some working on his ranch. I wonder how much they're making for their manual labor.

    This is a raw subject. Timing action on reform to become a general campaign issue is going to be a problem for Republicans. They do not seem to realize that their stances on illegals is closely watched by the eligible to vote immigrants all across the country. The timing is going to force Republicans to stand against and abandon a significant demographic. Either that or the Republicans will have to acquiesce and pass the reforms that Obama wants to push on them.

    We don't have an illegal immigration problem. we have an illegal immigrant problem. Most people who are here illegally immigrated here legally and overstayed their visas so closing the border is absolutely meaningless. The big question is what to do with the people who are here illegally as we can't afford to deport them all. This is where immigration reform is necessary and why we all need to address it as well as our president.

    More than a bit clueless there Rudy. The vast majority of Americans want the border secured and do NOT favor amnesty. Obama will seal his fate, and that of many other Democrats, running on the Bankrupt America, Open the Borders, Amnesty for Illegals platform.

    Those who are saying he is doing it because the election is coming. One question: should he drop everything which was in his plan (what to do list) because of your way of reasoning???

    ===========================
    We can't afford NOT to. Give them 6 months to voluntarily leave. After that, it is prison time then deportment. No exceptions. Including Obama's relatives.

    It's about time this issue has a spotlight shone on it. I worry about the children. How many of them with undocumented parents have gone through our school systems, and are Americans, except for the piece of paper?

    Tell you what. Since you appear to know so much about 'empathy' and feel others don't, such as Republicans, why not post your address so all these poor illegal aliens in our country can live at your house. Show a little 'empathy' and take care of them. Hey, and guess what? The second biggest money maker in Mexico is the is the flow of money out of the United States to Mexico, but I'm sure you're just fine with that. Now who's the fool?

    And send them - where? "That person is not from our country."
    That's the response you'll get 30 million times. Now what?
