Palin blasts White House's rapper invite

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin joined the anti-Common refrain Wednesday night, questioning the White House's judgment for inviting the rapper to participate in a poetry event.

"You know, the judgment, it's just so lacking of class and decency and all that's good about America with an invite like this," Palin said on Fox News Channel. "It's just so easy to assume that they're just inviting someone like me or somebody to ask, 'Come on, Barack Obama, who are you palling around with now?"

Common's presence at the event, which is part of Michelle Obama's White House Music Series, drew flack from media figures who pointed to lyrics from his songs, some of which use violent language against former President George W. Bush and police officers.

"This rapper, we thought that we were to be united under the leader of the free world, Barack Obama, in tamping down racism and inciting violence and cop killing, certainly, and killing a former president," Palin said. "All those things that this rapper has glorified and really is known for, it just certainly reflects a lack of judgment on the White House's part."

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney defended the decision, although he said the president "opposes those kind of lyrics."

"It's ironic to pick out those particular lyrics and – about this particular artist, when in fact, he's known as a socially conscious hip-hop artist or rapper who has done a lot of good things," Carney said.

Palin also took the opportunity to address her White House intentions, saying it is still too early to throw her hat in the ring. But she is "happy" former House Speaker Newt Gingrich decided to announce and is looking forward to more candidates jumping in to the race.

"The more competition the better," Palin said. "I'm not disappointed in the field thus far. I look forward to more jumping in there … competition breeds success. Competition is good for all of us in business, in politics. The more the merrier in a primary."

Palin's comments have a tinge of racism, ignorance, and fascist censorship.

sarah palin has nothing nice to say about President Obama after he gives the okay to blow bin Laden's head off, but finds the time to criticize him for inviting a rapper to the White House. Too bad Obama didn't invite palin to the poetry event; she could sit in the corner and keep track of which poems rhyme, and which are free style.

Sarah Palin has the gall to question anyone's class. Can we say $150K shopping spree. Anyway she needs to be more concerned with the 2 guys blasting Bristol. Choo, choo....

Oooh Sarah – as if anybody with a brain really cares about what you might have to say.

    Get lost!

Sarah Palin probably doesn't even know who Common is if she did then she would have never said that he was known for glorifiying violence. She is such a hipocrite she put crosshairs on democrates and said don't retreat- reload. When will she figure out that Fox news is just using her to look stupid. If the President found the cure for Cancer she would find some reason why it was wrong. When will she just go away?! I mean really she makes me sad to be a woman..

So that Sarah person is all about censorship. The conservatives, while expousing freedom from government, would censor anyone or any group that does not agree with them. Sure, I do not like rappers who sing of violence and killing. I just choose not to listen to them. That is your choice as well ms. palin. But do not tell me what my values/mores are to be.
Just get out of the game.

Hillarious that she deems herself worthy of being a moralist for America. She quits and lies and has obviously taught her children to do the same.

Uncritical patriotism is always popular among rightwing sycophants of power and populism. Palin is no different. She's an embarrassment to the human species – at least that portion that prefers thinking over obeying.

"You know, the judgment, it's just so lacking of class and decency and all that's good about America with an invite like this." I wonder if that's what she said to her daughter when she got pregnant out of wedlock.

Here is more of Palin's statement: "The White House's judgment on inviting someone who would glorify cop killing during police memorial week, of all times, the judgment is so lacking of class and decency and all that is good about America with an invite like this."
How is it no one at the White House asked if it would be a good idea to bring the rapper in during police memorial week?

wow, I bet she or the other people against Common don't even know him. 1st, he is not a "gangsta" rapper, listen to the album "Be" and tell me what is so gangster about him. 2nd. Common went to college, has several of his own businesses besides music, and donates money to some of the poorest communities in Chicago. 3rd. He is a great poet, he has the ability to move and encourage people with his words. Once again ignorance and racism at its best.

Palin's comment "It's just so easy to assume that they're just inviting someone like me..." says it all. So much for the GOP having a big tent.

And wait! "Lacking in class and decency . . . " Does she not realize who her daughter is palling around with now – moving to LA to live with two guys and her baby – talk about class and decency, Sarah!

So let me get this straight, Palin picks a part of a song and attack the rapper and the president all in one shot, Palin in her ignorance disregards all the songs this rapper has sung and disregards all the statement about this rapper that disprove that he is a thug etc. Ok so if we use the same type of thinking than Newt thinks gays should be disposed of and gays are un-american. The reason is that Newt pals around with preachers who have stated that "gays are anti-american and should be disposed of". Newt has had these preachers pray over him and has attended these types of churches, if you call a hate preaching place a church. Thanks again palin for showing your stupidity to the public. Palin attack the president because the rapper had one lyric in one song that shows some dislike towards the former president but praises Newt for thinking and paling around with preachers that think that gays are anti-american and should be disposed of. Yeah Palin is a whacko.

If he had said the same things about our President now, she would be praising the rapper. Oh, what about the jobs the Rep. said they were going to create?

Please save us from this stupid person. Fox News is simply a forum inciting the ignorant with half-truths and outright lies. Rupert Murdock paid the GOP plenty to get FCC permission to dominate certain media markets with his conservative drivel.

  20. The reality is...

"It's ironic to pick out those particular lyrics and – about this particular artist, when in fact, he's known as a socially conscious hip-hop artist or rapper who has done a lot of good things," Carney said.

Interesting; Bin Laden was known as a socially conscious ter ror ist who had done a lot of good things, too.

I remember the late great Johnny Cash having pretty nice lyrics..." I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die. " amongst others. How many times was he invited to the White House, by how many different presidets? The fact is these people are artist, and reflect society in numerous fashions, and ways...The good, and the bad. I would be absolutely shocked if Mrs. Paulin does not like at least one artist who as sung, penned, or represented something that could be consider as contreversial. She knows this, and knows how to play the political game, but must realize that it is not helping her image in any way, shape or form. Actually the more time passes, the more she becomes unliked, and passes off as being shallow, and hypocritical.

Oh and by the way Mr President thank you for a job well done in the capture of Bin Laden! Something you would NEVER hear this crybaby sore loser ever say. Just because he's a rapper doesn't make him a bad person. Palin is so shallow it's pathetic.
