(CNN) – The Secret Service is apologizing Wednesday after an employee's personal dislike for Fox News landed in an official tweet.
The message, posted Wednesday on the @SecretService Twitter account read, "Had to monitor Fox for a story. Can't. Deal. With. The. Blathering."
According to the agency, the tweet was "immediately removed" and an "internal follow-up" is underway.
"An employee with access to the Secret Service's Twitter account, who mistakenly believed they were on their personal account, posted an unapproved and inappropriate tweet," read a statement from the U.S. Secret Service. "We apologize for this mistake, and the user no longer has access to our official account. Policies and practices which would have prevented this were not followed and will be reinforced for all account users."
The Secret Service newly joined Twitter with its first official tweet from @SecretService on May 9, 2011.

Brother, none.of.us.can.
They say the biggest mistake to make in DC is to tell the truth. But, the employee needs to be disciplined no matter what. The action means they have been socializing on Twitter when they should have been doing their job.
Rule #6a – Never apologize ... for telling the truth!
The employee spoke the truth.
And I am VERY happy that the Secret Service monitors Fox as they have done great harm to our country with their BLATHERING and unsubstantiated stories, and straight out lies.
No need to apologize. Fox News – Facts Don't Matter – is pathetic. Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Newt Gingrinch, and friends all "work" for them.
Not to mention News Corp gave $1 million to the RGA during the last election cycles so the Radical Right-Wing Nut Governors can destroy public education and unions. Keep on giving those tax cuts to the "job creators" while the middle-class gets stuck with the bill.
Why apologize? We all feel the same way about FOX – a group of lunatics who spread hate, fear, lies, and racism ad nauseum all day every day. They are just a Republican propaganda network that doesn't believe in facts. I wrote to the FCC to complain about the constant lies they tell. Even the FCC acknowleged to me that FOX lies but lying does not break FCC rules. They could only go after them for profane or porn language/pictures.
No sane person would watch FOX unless forced to – so at least the Secret Service guy was being honest – something FOX never is.
sure is a lot of apologizing going on lately for people telling the truth or at least how they feel about certain things. I wonder if the SS would be saying they are sorry if the tweet said the agent LIKED FoxNews?
I don't see what about the tweet is inappropriate. Sounds like someone telling the truth. That's more than Fox News does.
I can't deal with the blathering either, and I offer no apologies.
Personally, I am thankful for FOX. Without them, we would never hear anything close to the truth from the rest of the 'lamestream media'.
Anyone who's ever listened to Sean Hannity blather on will certainly agree with this agent.
I have "parental blocked" FOX on our t.v. and urge anyone and everyone to do the same.
Wow! Dose the secret service also have a Facebook page ?
Give the guy a break , maybe give him a raise for having and open mind !
boy all you liberals must just hate the fact that FOX news destroys all its competition. FOX's 3AM show gets higher ratings than CNN primetime.
sullivanamy for president! a true american hero!
Oh, but the blathering from the lamestream news outlets more friendly to this administration they apparently can handle.
Hypocrites.
Dear Secret Service: I have renewed respect for the caliber of employee you hire. No apology was necessary.
That agent should be fired.
These are the people tasked with protecting the very lives of our elected officials. If they can't set aside their personal political feelings while performing their duties, they're in the wrong job!
Here's a fact....whoever tweeted that from the secret service is in the minority.
I feel the same way about CNN. Fox and CNN are ying/yang. Anyway, the Tweet was honest, but if I was a higher up in the CIA, no member in my org should have access to tweeting. What if this agent tweeted something far more revealing by accident? It's like Facebook... mistakes will be made that cost people jobs, credibility, and perhaps even have security repercussions.
Ha! Good to know the Secret Service is monitoring Faux News because the rest of us sane Americans can't stand the blathering either.
Watching Fox news is worse then waterboarding, and is cruel and unusual punishment. I seriously know of no one that takes Fox news as serious.
The only one who needs to apoligize are all the fox celebrities – for all their unending lies.
Fox can handle it. It's really not a big deal.
Dear Dominican Momma for Obama,
The government monitors you as well.
