Obama 'thanks' Romney (again) for his role in passing health care reform

(CNN) - President Obama again praised a potential 2012 presidential rival Wednesday night, though his kind words likely went unappreciated by their intended target.

"Yes, we passed health care with an assist from a former Massachusetts governor," Obama said at a Democratic National Committee fundraising event in Boston.

"Great idea," he added to applause and laughter from the room full of supporters.

Obama was of course referring to his health care reform law, passed and signed last year, that he has repeatedly - and probably at time facetiously - said was modeled on the landmark 2006 health care reform law signed into law in Massachusetts by then-Governor Mitch Romney.

The similarities between the Massachusetts law and the federal law have become a major sticking point for the probable 2012 contender. As he tests the waters for a presidential run, Romney continues to face questions from conservatives who deride a provision in the both the Massachusetts and federal health care laws that requires people to buy medical insurance or pay a tax penalty.

Opponents say such an individual mandate is overreaching and even unconstitutional.

But during a speech in Ann Arbor, Michigan last week, Romney said that denouncing the provision "wouldn't be honest," and that he did what was "was right for the people of our state."

In February, Obama offered similar praise for the former governor:

"I agree with Mitt Romney, who recently said he's proud of what he accomplished on health care in Massachusetts and supports giving states the power to determine their own health care solutions. He's right," Obama said.

  1. Mitt Romney- He Will Say Almost ANYTHING to Get Elected

If Mitt was a confused 13 year old, who went to his Grandpa with a problem about what to do about this dilema as he ran for junior high school president, Pops would say –

"Mitchell, just go out their and tell the truth. Tell the other boys & girls at school that you implemented a healthcare plan in Massachusetts with an individual mandate. Tell them that that Obama fella is right."

Son, it's the only way you have any hopes of being viewed as someone with integrity and the principles people want in their class president.

    Humm,
Why are every and his brother getting Waivers to opt out of Obama Care? Could it be that nobody can afford it? Why do some say, If you think Health Care is High Now just wait till it's free. Let's see, Saturday is the Rapture and you don't have a job. Just in time I see. But, if the Rapture fails to show up it's back to the Salt Mines, for you that still have a job.

I will spend a few extra days every year going back and forth with my accountant to make sure I take every deduction possible. Anyone is better for Presidnet than the joke we have in office now.

Obama trying to shift the blame from himself to Romney will backfire.

Obama should have been working on the jobs problem. At this time he still IS NOT working on the jobs problem, American workers need to fire him, without question!

    This should be good entertainment.

If a hug from President Obama killed the Florida governor's political career, just imagine how the tea baggers will take actual PRAISE from the President to Mittens.

Romney is missing a fantastic opportunity to snag independents. Not only should he be PROUD of Romneycare since it seems to be working for his own state, but his plan was the basis for a national healthcare plan that many people DO in fact support. He may be going against his base on this one point, but would be sure to snag some of those oh-so-desired independents if he would just stand by his decisions and show that he can go to the middle when the need arises. Alas, he's too chicken to do so, which is unfortunate.

The actual cost of health care has remained fairly steady over the past year, but yet the cost of insurance has risen as the insurance industry promised.
    ================================================================================================
NOTHING has remained "fairly steady" since Obama has now fueled inflation. And the cost of the insurance has risen because Obamacare has mandated the insurance company's change wh and what is covered. Do you think all that was goin gto be free? Yes, I know you did. All libtards think everything is free because they don't have to pay for it. WE DO!

.. Once again you say things that dont make any sence without any proff.. how can you say what it will increase if it does take affect until i believe 2014...

    The rates have already increased:
    September 7, 2010:
Aetna Inc., some BlueCross BlueShield plans and other smaller carriers have asked for premium increases of between 1% and 9% to pay for extra benefits required under the law, according to filings with state regulators.

These and other insurers say Congress's landmark refashioning of U.S. health coverage, which passed in March after a brutal fight, is causing them to pass on more costs to consumers than Democrats predicted.

    --------------------------------------------------

dude, my premiums with Aetna went up 50% this last year and I am not gullible enough to think that they did not due that for purely monetary gains. I do not blame the Health Care Reform, I blame the for profit industry for trying to make a profit on the dying. You need to re-assess the prioriities of our time here on this planet, you and your kind really appear to have no heart or soul. and if you do, you certainly do not care to show it in your posts. I hope to God you are not as much an ass in person as you constantly are on these boards.

Rudy NYC correctly states that "There is a difference between the cost of health care and the cost of health insurance". To those of you claiming that insurance rates have increased significantly since the passage of Health Care Reform, be honest and consider how much those rate were increasing prior to passage.

Ok once again you fall to relaize that the "obamacare" as you call it has not even came into play yet .. so the rates going up has nothing to do with his plan .. its going up do to no regulation on the insurance companies running wild and doing as they please and dropping people on a just becuase clause... please do some research b4 you start it may help your thoughts in the long run .. but how your day going ??

It's funny to see all the Repugnant's get so upset about the Health Care Reform Act now. they had plenty of time to help shape it into something that would work for everyone, but instead they are crying because PROGRESS and CHANGE was made by a Democratic President. I think it didn't go far enough, we ie. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA need UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE for all people! BTW... Don't forget what got us in this current economy, a REPUBLICAN President and a REPUBLICAN Congress from 2003 – 2007! Democrats in 2012!

Also have you ever thought that the rates r going crazy right now due to the insurance companies trying to get as much as they can from you and me and gandpa n grannie becuz they knw that once the Obama plan goes in effect that they wont be able to take advantage of people as they have been doing for so long .. my rates are going up also and has been for the last few yrs way b4 Obama even thought about doing something aboout the system .. you act as if this just started when he took office or came out with his plan..
