So what is the purpose of this trip?..What is the cost? What business needs to be tended to at home? Maybe he went to Ireland to try to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow or maybe ask he queen for a loan to settle the debt?

The wedding day was about the William and Kate, not the POTUS.
By the way, British Prime Minister David Cameron did not receive one, either.
Who made the invite list had more to do with personal priorities than public protocols.

The president is on his way to a summit with European leaders and made a couple of stops before as presidents often do. The president and the first ladies are outstanding representatives of our country.

Your ignorance is showing. The President is in Europe for the G8 summit, which begins on Wednesday. You are suggesting that he should walk out on it. Bad idea. There's an ongoing global fiscak crisis still under way that looks like it is trying to regress. This is the G8, not the G20, which means our closest allies politically, militarily, and financially.

enjoy the Europe while you can. Is it little cooler than here. But do not ignore the problems here at home, like jobs, economy....we need retraining, retraining, and retraining...manufacturing, and energy independence...just remember...strict immigration. Federal contractors are cheating on foreigner visas....once visas are approved, these foreigners are leaving Washington...

@ Rudy – You assume that people like gt and Rsprings have some logical basis for their posts. I exect they are only operating out of a pathological hatred for our President along with, as you pointed out, a great deal of ignorance regarding economics, foreign policy, and pretty much anything else that requires complex thought. Fortunately, their views represent only about 10% or so of Americans. They are just disproportionately loud in their ravings.

Since I expect the President will be reelected, we will have almost 6 more years of this stupidity to endure.

It's pretty amazing that (a) by posting in an internet comment section, people implicitly admit that we have a vast and endless array of powerful communications technology at our everyday disposal, and yet (b) they still make their post a completely ignorant complaint that assumes POTUS can't be in England meeting with important world leaders and figures to further our foreign relations while monitoring issues back at home at the same time...like he somehow is without the resources and manpower at his disposal to deal with multiple things at once and be in touch with people with the flick of a button. Kudos, morons.

Love how every time the President goes overseas, the morons start screaming that he's not attending to business at home. We HAVE business abroad, oh all ye descendants of Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel. I know you all think Obama is the first president to ever take a vacation, make money while in office, step foot out of the White House, visit another country, etc, etc. If you strain yourselves to do some research (or, you know, just REMEMBER) you might recall that the Bushes (father AND son) made money hand over fist while in the White House. And Bush Jr. once or twice left his Crawford ranch to visit the White House.

OMG , that Barack is one delicious piece of man – I`m sorry I`ve just gotta say it.

It is so good for our country to have such a strong, loving and devoted-to-each-other 1st couple & family.

They reprensent all that is noble about America.

    @ Lee....
that's why the far righties are a bunch of whiners. I'm sure if President Obama were here that tornado NEVER would have hit Joplin Mo. He said he will come to Joplin this weekend when he comes back. If he were here and went there then they would accuse him of being there for a "photo op" and a political statement. Plus all he's going to do is make Rick Perry more angry helping those folks while we burn up down here in Texas.

@people complaining whenever a political leader leaves his house. One of the president's jobs is to represent America on the international stage. And this is accomplished by state visits, and attending events such as the G8. Costs are reduced by having him make several visits at once, rather than going to G8 this month, then making another trip to the UK next month. During these visits trade deals are discussed, relationships are forged, and payoffs result. It is due to just such a state visit by either Reagan to see Gorbachev or vice versa that resulted in the Cold War ending, for heaven's sake. I know some folks would like nothing better than for the president to be cloistered in the white house like the Emperor of China in the Forbidden City, but that's not reality. And if you think the president isn't capable of multitasking – visiting Kate and Wills one moment and then being briefed on the tornadoes the next, you weren't paying attention a few weeks ago when his plate involved everything from dealing with the birth certificate and giving a funny speech at the White House Correspondents dinner to, you know, getting bin Laden.

DIRDI: He is attending the G8 summit. You should find the facts before having a hissy fit about his 2 day trip for the summit.
And ROB: What is wrong with responding to an invitation by Queen Elizabeth to visit Buckingham Palace during his trip to the G8 summit. What if all world leaders sat behind their desks and never spoke to people from other countries? Are you forgetting that all of our presidents have done this?
