(CNN) – Sharron Angle was the self-proclaimed “first candidate” to jump into the race for Nevada’s 2nd district House seat, and now she’s the first one to drop out.
Following then-Congressman Dean Heller’s appointment to the Senate to fill Sen. John Ensign’s vacated seat, Angle indicated that she would run for the House seat in a special election in early March.
The former assemblywoman quit her second run for the House before it began due to dissatisfaction with the special election process.
“Current outcomes concerning the special election have made this election in Nevada an illegitimate process that disenfranchises the electorate,” she said, in a statement.
“I do not have any desire to participate in a process described by others as a ‘ballot royale’ or a situation where the party central committees choose their nominees because it makes a mockery of the most important constitutional element in exercising freedom,” she said.
Angle is railing against a decision by the state parties to select their own nominees for the special election instead of holding a primary contest. The Nevada Supreme Court will hear arguments by the state as it battles a lower court ruling in favor of allowing the state party selection process, which does not include a primary.
She previously sought the 2nd District House seat in 2006, and followed that unsuccessful bid with a run for the U.S. Senate seat in 2010, largely backed by the Tea Party. Angle lost her attempt to unseat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid by a narrow margin.
And she would not abandon plans for a future run.
“Although I do not intend to participate as a candidate in the special election, I am not ruling out a future run for office,” she said.
Ensign resigned in the midst of a Senate ethics investigation that probed his affair with a female aide who was the wife of another top aide. The parents of the married senator gave money to the aide’s family.
The special election is set for September 13. The filing deadline for candidates is June 30.

I cannot believe the blatant disregard for the will of the people displayed by both parties on a regular basis. This is just one more glaring example.
Abolish the 2 party system. Set single term limits. Watch our voice be heard once more in Washington.
So the same woman that wanted to destroy government once in office is now asking for the government to come in for this one single time? If there really are aliens out there, they must be laughing so hard right about now.
