(CNN) – MSNBC host Ed Schultz apologized Wednesday night for calling conservative host Laura Ingraham a "slut," comments that cost him a week long suspension from the cable channel.
"On my radio show yesterday, I used vile and inappropriate language with talking about radio talk show host Laura Ingraham. I am deeply sorry and I apologize," Schutlz said at the opening of his nightly program Wednesday. "It was wrong, uncalled-for and I apologize for the severity of what I've said."
Schultz, host of "The Ed Schultz Show" said no matter the circumstances, his comments were "terribly vile." He called the experience the "lowest of the low for me."
Ingraham accepted the apology via Tiwtter Thursday, writing "Ed Schultz: Apology accepted."
In a statement, MSNBC said Schultz accepted one week of "unpaid leave for the remarks he made."
"Ed will address these remarks on his show tonight and immediately following begin his leave," the statement read. "Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated."
On his radio show Tuesday, the liberal Schultz criticized Republicans, and particularly Ingraham for thinking about how much the natural disasters currently plaguing the country "are going to cost" instead of "their next door neighbor."
"President Obama is going to be visiting Joplin, Missouri on Sunday, but you know what they're (Republicans) talking about, like this right-wing slut, what's her name? Laura Ingraham? Yeah, she's a talk slut," Schultz said. "You see, she was, back in the day praising President Reagan when he was drinking a beer overseas. But now that Obama's doing it, they're working him over."

But even I have to wonder where the compassion is towards the tornado victims in this country.
These people have been through a terrible tragedy. So can we put the political rhetoric aside long enough to help out our fellow Americans?
Can liberals/conservatives/independents try to get along, for the future of this country?
I applaude MSNBC for taking swift action on this. Mr. Schultz gets fired up but this went over the line and he's apologized and taking his punishment. I don't disagree with what he said but he shouldn't have said it on air.
Shultz – Don't stoop to their level. We understand the message. You don't need to use inflammatory language to convince us. We are the intelligent ones.

He was contrite and honest in his apology....... I like Ed. At the same time far left fervor, as well as far right fervor is unacceptable.
Ed was a republican until 2000, so he was not always a lefty. He's a successful businessman (as he owns a vacation resort) but he fights vigorously for social justice.
As a free market democrat, I wish he would brandish his love for the free market a little more. It's time for DEMS to show that we love the free market as well, but also want to do whats fair and right.

See, this is what I've been saying about going "postal." When a person, even a very good person as Ed, just can't take the stupidity any longer, he goes "postal." The human mind just can't control it's complete lack of comprehension of such blatant stupidity. No reasonable human being can be as stupid as the radical Republican right wing. Reading all of the supportive posts for this guy, I am shocked by the hypocrisy but I really shouldnt be. If a conservative had called rachel maddow a slut, NOW would have been protesting in the streets, progressives would have been screaming at the top of their lungs. When the shoes on the other foot, the offender is "passionate about what he believes". What does that have to do with anything? The real sluts/whores are those who make excuses for this kind of behavior because they have no standards of conduct or morals.
