Iowa-bound Palin: Republican presidential field will change

(CNN) – Sarah Palin told CNN on Monday that she plans to take her "One Nation" bus tour to Iowa, the state that votes first in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

"I'm sure at some point I will be going to Iowa," Palin said during a visit to Fort McHenry in Baltimore. "At some point."

The comments come on the heels of a RealClearPolitics story that said Palin is planning a visit to Iowa in June, the same month a documentary about her rise to power is set to debut in the Hawkeye State.

The trip would be Palin's first visit to Iowa since December, when she stopped there during a book tour. She also addressed a fund-raising dinner for the Iowa Republican Party last September.

Palin and her family were mobbed by television cameras after her arrival at Fort McHenry, the fort that famously defended Baltimore from a British assault during the War of 1812. The battle served as the inspiration for the national anthem, Francis Scott Key's "Star Spangled Banner."

Asked about her 2012 thinking, Palin said her family's concerns come first. But she also said the unsettled nature of the Republican presidential field has left the door open for other candidates, herself included, to join the nomination fight.

"It's going to be a changed-up field between now and when deadlines finally arrive for declaring," Palin told CNN.

While she said she is "satisfied" with the Republicans who are already in the process of campaigning, she predicted that the field "is going to change up a lot."

"I believe that there are many more out there who have much more to add," she said. "Competition breeds success. I hope there is going to be vigorous debate and a lot of good aggressive competition even in the primary so our voters have a good choice."

Unprompted, Palin brought up Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who said last week that he plans to consider a presidential bid.

"I think he would be a fine candidate," she said. "We have a lot in common. I really like him. But there are so many candidates and potential candidates out there who have so much to offer."

– On Monday, June 13, CNN will host the first New Hampshire Republican Presidential Debate, live from Manchester, NH at 8 p.m. ET. Follow all the issues and campaign news leading up to the debate on CNNPolitics.com and @cnnpolitics on Twitter.

Regarding Harry Lime's post.: The mainstream press did not discredit Ms. Palin, in fact she did it to herself.

"Oh you lefty's are really getting nervous... It's so fun to watch you all trip all over yourself! Where's BO? Oh that right he's golfing after his last Europeon disaster."

naww. it's someone like you getting that is afraid. Palin supporters aren't very bright, if they think that she stands any chance. Obama is off being a president and by the way has stayed in office longer than your HalfTerm HalfWit Half "governor" has

I for one was "insulted' when Sara Palin said she was going on a tour of the historical places so she can teach everyone about our founding principals. Ms. Palin–I learned my American history starting in 1st grade, I'm 65 now and have kept myself up to date on current events and since "history" hasn't changed, I'm pretty up on that too. You can't stay out of the media as it brings you more and more money. I would love for you to stay home and take care of your family and maybe work on your tan–you bore me! PS–I'm an independant so please don't think i am afraid she will run. However, I have already decided, I will never vote for Sarah Palin no way, no how, for any reason.

The point Palin seems to miss about tea-parties is that once the tea is dumped overboard, you can't put it back in the boat.

Lets go down the GOP memory lane… This weeks memory lane...

Birther Conspiracy, Deather Conspiracy, The Rapture, Donald Trump, Failure to Kill Medi Care via Ryan Plan, Glitter Gingrich, Paw Paw Pawlenty, Brain Dead Bachmann, Tea Bagger Nut Cases, Right Wing Loonies, and now the GOP is tossing out the dazzling Mittens Romney for President.

Palin is just insult to the GOP's massive injury to the USA, Patriot in name only, Unqualified most certainly, Complete Nut Case for sure!

    GOP = TOTALLY CRITICAL FAILURE!

I get a kick out of the right wingers who think left wingers are nervous about Palin. A Sarah Palin run would be a gift to the Democrats.

I'm a conservative independent and I wouldn't vote for this bridge to nowhere loser.

Ohhhhh my Lord the US of America has gone downhill for ever. Paying attention to this idiot and making such a ridiculous show speculating if she will or will not run!! Off course she is running, that ego is too big not to. She is and idiot, Bush looks like EInstein at her side. God save this country if she is elected.... Would not think so , this would help Obama but you cannot be sure with rednecks and idiots....

Hey Notso Bright, it's hard to run or even walk when you're on your back with your feet in the air. That is Sister Sarah's favorite position.

  17. Lost in Texas FOREVER

    @ Ray....
No "Bo" is NOT golfing...he was Joplin offering comfort to the people there and paying his respects at Arlington today, something your beloved Sarah has yet to do. The Dems and progressives are not nervous about Palin as some of you on the right want to suggest. In fact they are HOPING she runs...nothing would make the GOP look more foolish. Just ask Karl Rove what he thinks.

Sarah Palin will make a great president, much like Ronald Reagan. She is the only potential candidate that understands that energy is our great advantage as Americans. We sit on 1.3 TRILLION barrels of known reserves in this country – equating to over 100 TRILLION dollars in potential revenue. Consider the jobs that it takes to explore, extract, and distribute that oil and it becomes clear that oil may be the only way out of our looming economic crisis. Sooner or later the choice has to be made – either we develop our natural resources or economy will collapse under a mountain of debt. Oil is the only viable way to get the revenues we need to save social security, medicare, medicaid, and most other large social programs. It also represents an opportunity to dry up funding the terrorist get from out current energy purchase. Sarah Palin understands this – no one else seems to understand it, and certainly no one else has shown a willingness to lead on the issue of energy like Sarah Palin.

This reminds me of J.P. Morgan's answer to "what will the stock market do?"– "it will fluctuate".

  20. Four and The Door

There are many Republican candidates who can beat Obama in 2012. Obama is yesterday's news. He had his Grande Opportunity like no one else in American history. And he took that opportunity to blow $4 trillion and waste our time for about 2 1/2 years so far. In spite of what the Democratic political advisors tell the Administration, Independents are not stupid or easily swayed by empty promises. They pay attention and Obama lost them about $2 trillion of new debt ago.

She does not ride cross state or city to city on a bus. She takes a private jet and a limo to the bus site.

I'm thrilled to see so many Palin haters continue the same old tiring and childish meme that every GOP candidate is dumb and stupid and every Dem is just one step in brilliance -below God -except for Obama who is himself a messiah of sorts. The amazing thing is these who worship at the alter of Obama -the most agressive anti-life man ever hold the Whitehouse -a man whose hatred of America is second only to his spritual mentor -Saul Alinsky – friend of Satan have as their hero a man they claim is brilliant beyond anything measurable – but he can't even fix the economy, unless of course he doesn't want to....
