Liberal congressman involved in Twitter controversy over lewd photo

(CNN) - A weekend controversy involving a lewd photo posted on the Twitter account of Rep. Anthony Weiner is a "prank" caused by a hacker, Weiner told CNN on Monday.

Weiner, a New York Democrat who is one of the leading liberal voices in the House, blamed the photo on a hacker who got control of his social networking accounts.

That should be easy to verify. You would think that CNN with all it's resources could traceback to find the origination IP address before joining the gossip train.
We are increasingly sacrificing investigative journalism for sensationalism.
    It is indeed very sad.

Probably that guy that had the pimp outfit on to blackmail Acorn and then broke into senator's offices. Republicans will pull any dirty trick they can because they can't win by being honest.

Wake up, folks. Thats the CHRISTIAN RIGHT-WING NUTJOBS.

The supremely dishonest Andrew Breitbart is behind this so called "scandal." Rep. Weiner was stalked by two conservative activists for weeks. They then got access to his twitter account and targeted an innocent young women to accuse of being his mistress.
    Typical Republican dirty tricks.

This type of hacking - increasingly commonplace in Twitter and Facebook accounts - is really a form of identity theft intended to damage the victim's reputation.

Leave it to clowns such as Breitbart to cheer for the perp from the sidelines and actively propagate the malicious disinformation.

I don't believe it. The story states Breitbarts name. Anytime he is involved I question the legitimacy of the claim. I also understand there was not a picture of his face so.....I will not condemn the congressman. He is an honest man.

Well, if he uses that excuse so will others. No more Twitter accidents. It will all be attributed to hackers.

This should be easy enough to prove. I am suprised though that CNN with all it's resources could not investigate the claims before jumping on the gossip bandwagon.

Investigative reporting seems to be today's sacrificial lamb on the alter of sensationalism and ratings.

Same as with any politician, republican or democrat, they need to be replaced or recalled. Just because they happen to have a title like congressman, or senator means they need to follow the law, not feel they are above it. Get rid of the bum.

How wonderful to see this smug "leading liberal" sinking into his own political and personal cesspool. His arrogance and audacity have come home to roost. His cockamamie story is quickly unraveling and his torrid tale almost gives me a lump in my throat. Almost.

Please leave Congressman Weiner alone. He is a rising star and 'they' are trying to discredit him. I don't think it will work, he is that shrewd!

Headline: "Liberal congressman involved in Twitter controversy over lewd photo"
What's with this headline? Weiner isn't "involved" with anything. Breitbart is involved with yet another contemptible libelous attack on a Democrat. What else is new?

Somone taking a chapter from the Democrat Party playbook and applying it to Weiner...poetic justice!

In its headline, CNN refers to this as a "scandal"? Oh please. Enough tabloid-style breahtlessness. You're a grown-up news organization. The ticker should be a place to post small newsbeats, not compete with the Inquirer.

Since he says he didn't send the photo on purpose, and the recipient of the photo says and believes he didn't send the photo on purpose, and we have seen evidence over and over of how prevalent hacking is, it's interesting how the repuglicans just can't believe it's not on purpose. Unlike, say, that married "family values" republican congressman a while back who deliberately posted a shirtless "I'm-so-buff" profile of himself on a dating site and corresponded with a woman who then made the whole thing public BECAUSE SHE KNEW IT WAS ON PURPOSE.

So Weiner want Justice Thomas to recuse himself but not a peep about Justice Kagan who was Solicitor General and worked directly on the healthcare legislation and nothing about Sotomeyer who also offered cousel to the Obama Adm on said legilation. Really??? people.

I think Congressman Weiner has better since than to do something like that to himself. The action can only make him look bad, so why do it to yourself. If he says it was an act of vandalism, then I believe him.
