Alaska government to release Palin emails

(CNN) - The Alaska governor’s office is set to release more than 24,000 pages of records relating to Sarah Palin’s term as governor. Requests from media organizations for the documents stem as far back as the 2008 campaign.

Members of the media, including CNN, were informed Tuesday evening in an email from the governor’s office that the release would occur soon. The notification said some of the documents will be redacted and others will be withheld due to several legal privileges that are permissible under the state’s disclosure law, including attorney-client and some executive deliberations.

What will be made public are Palin’s emails dealing with state business—using both her official account as well as private accounts. After the media and others made freedom of information requests in 2008, a search was done “in an effort to capture everything in the state email system” that would comply with the request, Linda Perez, the administrative director for current Gov. Sean Parnell said. Then lawyers within the state Department of Law recommended what should be released and what should be withheld under state requirements, and the final decision was made by the governor’s offce, Perez said.

She said 2,275 pages are not being released.

The original requests for these papers came in 2008 shortly-after Palin was tapped to be Sen. John McCain’s running mate, and there was intense interest in her governorship, including several controversies related to her tenure.

Because of the volume of records and the number of copies that need to be made, the governor’s office hopes the documents will be released by next week.

@Scotty. Fear? You are confusing fear with national embarassment. This woman is playing everyone–the media of all stripes but CNN in particular, Republicans, Democrats, John McCain, independents, Tea Patsies, men, women, children, Donald Trump, soldiers in Iraq, and snail darters–as fools simply because we pay attention to her. She is like a traffic accident. You don't want to look, but you can't help yourself because it is too awful.

Those on the right keep posting comments to the effect that the left is afraid of Palin....it's not fear it's loathing – lefties tend to be more intelligent than those on the right and therefore can't stand her ignorance.

It is surprising that it took this long. If Palin doesn't have anything to hid, then why not waive the privilage and let them be released earlier? It does make many wonder what was done then. I doubt that these were e-mails were quoting Shakespeare or Plato.

Republicans keep on repeating to themselves that liberals fear Palin. But Republicans have the same fear as everyone else. They want to live. Palin and the nuclear button should not be in the same room.

"The Obama-Lover Media is trying to do everything and anything to slander Sarah. On the other hand, they do everything possible to protect Obama. Nothing more than absolute bias reporting with complete absence of fairness."

The only bias involved here is your confirmation bias (look it up), which is severely threatened every time you read an article that even remotely suggests that what you want to hear isn't the truth...which of course then sends you into pathological denial and causes you to utter the kind of nonsense I just quoted. Go back to the Faux Noise echo chamber if all you're looking for is articles that provide you with daily affirmations that the world is just exactly the way your ideological blinders tell you it should be.

And you think the Watergate Tapes had gaps in them!! This will be redaction beyond what we saw in Valerie Plame's book. You know there will be nothing bad in them if Palin is thinking about running for pres. However, if she's not she may let enough out to keep her in the spotlight for years to come, which is her main ambition in life.

23,990 pages worth of email forwards notifying friends that Bill Gates will send them all $1000 if they forward the message. 10 pages of real, actual work-related junk.

I just have to wonder – all of you Palin supporters please tell us what she has to offer this country for ALL Americans not just the ones she labels as Americans. Palin is only out for one thing – $$$$$$$$$$!!! Why can't you people see that? What I also find so funny is that you railed against Candidate Obama for his "celebrity" status but that is all Palin is now and you still think she's presidential. Also, I remember Palin, right before losing the election, saying that God would put the right person in the office of the Presidency. Well, Palin dear you & McCain LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The comments about how the left fears Palin are the perfect illustration of how dumb those on the right really are. The left would love to see her run against Obama as It would mean an easy Obama re-election. Only a drooling idiot would miss that one.

It's not slander. By the way, Sarah Palin has Lasik surgery and has absolutely no need for glasses. Those are for show, just like everything else about her.

    Best Myth Still Going.....

the left and liberals are SCARED TO DEATH of Sarah Palin. Keep on posting and thinking that way right wingers because nothing could be more wrong. Progessives LAUGH themselves to death over Sarah Palin. It's the 'evil left wing media" that just keeps giving her attention.

Hey right wing wackos – I sincerely hope that your party nominates Sarah Palin as your candidate for president. Really I do. You will be guaranteeing our current President Barack Obama his second term so that he can continue to clean up the messes that George W Bush created including fixing the economy, getting out of the two insane stupid wars, creating jobs, overhauling medicare/medicaid/social security, continuing to improve foreign relations, getting rid of dicators, reducing our dependence on oil and institutiing CAFE standards, alternate power sources and many other things too numerous to mention.

These emails will only show how small -minded and shrill this woman can be. Why do you think they fought to keep them out of the public?

Sarah Palin has dumbed down the level of political discourse in this country more than any other politician in the last ten years, with perhaps the exception of Sharron Angle and Joe Scarpio. The very words that come out of her mouth are anathema to rational thought and coherent decision-making. She has tried to apply folksy, household intuition to the greatest macroeconomic problems of our generation. She has tried to apply simple 'balance your checkbook' logic to the discourse on taxes and spending. She has spawned an entire pro-ignorance movement (read: Tea Party).

The less we hear from this person the better. She can go back to her book tours and reality shows, but please stay the heck out of politics!

Looks like Palin will have to release some of her "new found money" to fight the State of Alaska. Palin used Alaska to gain her wealth, ran out on them leaving them holding the bill and now it's time to payup or else. RELEASE THOSE EMAILS AND EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PALIN FAMILY INCLUDING HER HUSBAND'S DIRTY PAST.
