Weiner apologizes for lying, 'terrible mistakes,' refuses to resign

mug.cnn

(CNN) - A week after claiming a hacker had posted a lewd photo to his Twitter account, U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner on Monday apologized for lying about the ordeal and admitting carrying on inappropriate relationships with several women he'd met online.

Weiner, a New York Democrat, said he is not resigning his seat, nor is he planning on separating from his wife. But he said he took responsibility for his actions - both the relationships and for lying about sending photos.

He should have come clean alst week. What an idiot! But not the AK kind of idiot!
To four and the door, palin power and any of the tea bagging crowd – just remember, what he did was NOT right but the Democrats do not run on family values (and then break them all with both men/women boys and girls) or bible stump.

If Anthony Wiener's political career has been destroyed, maybe CNN will give him his own prime-time show. After spending weeks beating a horse to death about Eliot Spitzer's even worse behavior, he is now featured on CNN with his own show. CNN is pretty hypocritical!

He needs to resign immediately! Additionally he willingly made false statements to the FBI and accused innocents or wrongdoing. He should be charged appropriately. This seems to be all too normal for a Democrat these days, but at least he didn't stick top secret papers in his sock, or hid thousands of dollars in his freezer, or spend thousands of campaign dollars on hiding his mistress... The corruption seems to never end.

I don't see how an apology is enough here. His actions were a hundred times worse than that of GOP Chris Lee whom Democrats were screaming for his resignation. Additional and much more 'revealing' photos were on the way, which was the only reason he finally told the truth. It's time for Democrats to hold their own accountable.

As for lying to the press, yes, he lied to you. So what, darn near every politian lies to you every day.

As for comparing to Republicans, there's no comparison. He's not standing up being morally superior to others and then getting caught. He did not rally against gays for decades only to come out late in life. There's very little to no hypocracy here.

I say if he isn't in your district you don't have a say in who they allow to represent them and if it just so happens that Representative is a cheating SOB well then it is not your moral compass that defines his ability to Represent his district...if they dont recall him then we all will just need to move on

Why do i have a strong feeling Mr. Weiner would only look down at me or my students for always striving for the truth. He obviously thinks he is above the truth and smarter than the truth, thus only admitting what he did today because; he got caught !

Most grown-ups know that when you make a mistake ...

    ACKNOWLEDGE the mistake
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for your actions and words
    APOLOGIZE
MAKE AMENDS in the best way you can and ...
RE-COMMIT to the relationship that has been broken

Anthony Weiner has started the process with his wife, his colleagues and his constituents. Now, he needs to be allowed to fulfills his intentions without criticism and second guessing by the media and people who clearly still belong in junior high.

I really don't care if they are Repulican or Democrat. This is about someone not fulfilling his/her oath to this country. The truth of this matter is we were paying him with our tax dollars while he was sexting and taking pictures of his body parts while in his office. If anyone does this while in office, on our dime, be it Democrat or Republican should be forced to leave office. They are wasting our money and time. Maybe if all those politicians quit thinking about their "weiner" we could solve the crisis that is going in the USA. One strike and they should be out. This is absolutely insulting to the American taxpayers paying his wage, or anyone else that is just thinking about their parts down under. GET THEM OUT OF OFFICE AND FIX AMERICA!!! This is just showing the complacency that is going on in our Congress. He has time to take pics of himself in his public office? We are paying his wage for him to be sexting instead of fixing the problems of the USA? If the American publ...ic puts up with this, then our country is doomed. These fat cat politicians need to know we want results, we could care less about seeing their body parts. Come on, this is totally IDIOTIC. The US should come down hard on these perve politicians. Enough is enough. We need to fix our country!!!!

Unlike some others that have caught their unmentionables in a public or attempt to hide sexual affair by bribery, Weiner has never proclaimed himself a saint of perfect virtue. He messed up, he is paying the price, he will learn from it and be a better person for it. Those who want to burn him at the stake are lying to themselves and those around them. There is not one of us who has clean sheets to wrap around ourselves or others, not one.

It's a sad day when you dont care about the type of person who represents you. When you give those that do a pass for the same reason you condemn others. By doing so, you are only lying to yourself.

Weiner did break the law by lying to the authorities and by the statements he made to the press. The worst type of Democrat supporter is one who thinks it only matters if he supported your causes. To ignore your convictions only when it suits you. Such devotion is pathetic. Do you draw the line anywhere? Or only where being a democrat is concerned? This is the type of thought that is bring down the Democrat party.

Don't really care about this minor personal issue...should be a non reporting issue too but Wolf has to sensationalize for ratings. At least he admitted to his mistake, took responsibility, and apologized. Does not impact or take away from the fact that he is one of the good one's out there fighting for issues that impact the little guys(thats 99.1 % of us americans) Let's compare: Lying about a picture of one's weiner (temporarily) out of embarrassment VS Lying about WMDs and starting a war that costs thousands of lives...or how about: Lying about a picture of one's weiner (temporarily) out of embarrassment VS Catholic church lying about, covering up and conspiring to systematically rape countless children – No Contests here. Lets put some perspective around this non story..unless your part of the uptight religious right that is selectively offended by diversity of human activity and uses it for political gain. Stop acting like 2nd grade sunday school girls. On another note – if I were in the shape his chest shot suggests he is in – I would post it everywhere out of sheer pride. All you had to do was listen closely to his "denials" to tell that he was avoiding the whole truth. He can no longer be effective and should leave. He's in DC to represent his constituents - he can't do it now effectively.

To those who state this is representative of the Democrats: You have incredibly selective memories. This kind of thing knows no party or religious boundaries. Power is a corrupting influence. We look to our elected officials to avoid that influence in all ways - because once they fail in one area, they have shown themselves able to give in in others - e.g. bribery. We MUST hold our elected officials to a higher standard - as should they, themselves.
