Romney: Sarah Palin’s the ‘best thing’ that could happen to me

(CNN) – For any other candidate, raining on a presidential announcement parade would be seen as sabotage. Not former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

The 2012 presidential candidate told CNN’s Piers Morgan Monday that he wasn’t offended when former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin appeared in the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire on the same day he was set to formally announce his intention to seek the 2012 GOP nomination for president.

In fact, though Romney shared his plans one week in advance and Palin insisted on keeping the destination of her top-secret bus tour under wraps until the day before her New Hampshire appearance, Romney insisted that the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee “really didn’t ruin my day.”

“In a lot of respects it’s the best thing that could happen to me,” he said on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight.”

“Right now, your greatest enemy is overexposure. People get tired of seeing the same person day in and day out.”

And Romney, who also sought the GOP nomination in 2008, had nothing but kind words for Palin, who’s still batting around the will-she-or-won’t-she question.

“I think Sarah Palin is generating enthusiasm and interest in a campaign this year. That’s a good thing,” he affirmed. “She has a lot of energy and passion and bringing it to our race is positive for us.”

But for all the benefits of enthusiasm and interest, Romney will choose a different tack for the time being, opting instead to lay low.

“People are going to start focusing on the elections probably after Labor Day,” he said.

“For us, I’m not doing a lot of TV - just a couple of very key interviews where I get a chance to talk about things I care about,” Romney revealed.

“Until Labor Day hits I’m going be pretty quiet.”

- On Monday, June 13, CNN will host the first New Hampshire Republican Presidential Debate, live from Manchester, NH at 8 p.m. ET. Follow all the issues and campaign news leading up to the debate on CNNPolitics.com and @cnnpolitics on Twitter.

    "I’m going be pretty quiet"

It would be nice to have a president that doesn't speak caveman.

“Until Labor Day hits I’m going be pretty quiet.”

Here's a bet he'll be pretty quiet after Labor Day, too. Mitt generates zero excitement in his candidacy. His only chance is if all the other candidates are even more boring than he is.

Can we convince you to keep quiet for the rest of your life? It really would be the best thing for the nation.

Mitt must have had his teeth clenched when he said all this and that manufactured smile had to stand up to a real test.

I agree. She is a gift to the entire democratic party as well. Keep it up, Sarah. Good job!

Palin is the best thing that could happen to Romney because the more she speaks, the wackier she appears making Mitt look like the responsible, intelligent adult among the republicans.

Palin is so out of her league when you put her in with people like Romney. She's still fighting her Paul Revere mishap. LOL.

He is right when he says that, 'Over exposure is a bad thing." The problem is that Sara Palin doesn't understand this does not understand this. John McCain got himself into a double bind when he picked her for vice-president. He cannot admit that he made a mistake even though he knows she is not qualified, instead he continues to support her saying she would make a good president. By doing this he ruins his own credibility. By the way, why hasn't he thrown his hat in to run for president? Would he pick her again t be vice-president?

And, after Labor Day hits you're going be pretty quiet. Because no one will be paying attention to you.

Mitt's got a point there. We are all sick of seeing Sarah and hearing that God awful voice of her spout inane Paul Revere type of remarks.. Her lack of intelligence makes others in the race look alot better than some of them normally would.

    1. Her voice hurts to listen to. Can you imagine hearing her voice day after day as your President? Can you imagine her talking with Royalty and heads of state world wide?
    2. She lusts for the power she missed when McCain was not elected. She calls it 'Fire in her belly' for wanting to get elected.
    3. She embarrasses women and Christians alike.
    4. She calls herself 'Rogue'. One meaning of that word is 'Fraud'.

No doubt, Romney will be for Palin before he is against her.

Would that Silly Sarah do the same thing and keep a low profile until after labor day. Trouble is that she wont. She just has to be in the news any way she can get there, whether its by mangling American history, or inviting herself to ride with a dedicated group of bikers, makes no difference, just as long as she is in, or is, the news.
