White House communications director to speak at progressive conference

Washington (CNN) - President Obama's top communications official is set to address the progressive Netroots Nation annual conference next week, another sign the White House is gearing up for the upcoming campaign and how seriously they take the online community.

Netroots Nation announced Monday that White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer will be their keynote speaker this year. The gathering of progressive activists and bloggers will hear an address from Pfeiffer which will also have question and answer session.

The conference is set to take place June 16th through June 19th in Minneapolis.

Other speakers slated on the agenda include: former White House environmental czar Van Jones, the new DNC chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman, Obama campaign national field director Jeremy Bird, former Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean and Minnesota officeholders Sen. Al Franken, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Keith Ellison.

I would hope that Pfeiffer will point out the early economic successes of the Obama administration, before the repugs got the ability to filibuster bills in the Senate, and later stop all progress with control of the House. Give some credit to Bush, who supported the bank bailout as necessary, though hardly any repugs voted for it.

He would be wise to include graphs of the turnaround from job losses of over 750,000 per month, turnaround in GDP from MINUS 6.2% to PLUS 5% a year later, and the swift recovery in the stock markets, all of which slowed or stopped when the repugs got the ability to HALT PROGRESS. These gains coincided with the Stimulus, which repug politicians and commenters all claim was a failure.

I guess Rickster thinks progress is loony. Typical repug.

Also typical, they give NOTHING to back up their opinions,

Progressives??? The speaker list consists of the biggest bunch of leftists whackos out there! Not sure what is so "progressive" about socialism/communism? Sure hasn't done Europe, Cuba, USSR, etc much good. And Obama's socialist policies aren't doing US much good either.

You mean like borrowing $860 BILLION and claiming it would keep unemployment at or below 8%??? Instead it has gone well pased that and worse, remained there and is now INCREASING. Everything the Obama administration has done has helped deepen and prolong the recession. Right now, it should truly be called the Obama recession. The double dip recession we are entering into will be a direct result of his actions, and inactions in dealing with the massive deficits he has created which threaten the entire economy.

54,000 jobs created in the private sector last month. Half were from the McDonalds hiring spree, the other half in the Texas Oil Patch.

    Progress you can believe in.

"Everything the Obama administration has done has helped deepen and prolong the recession."

    1. Approx. half of the stimulus was tax cuts and tax incentives. I guess we should thank you for admitting that tax cuts and tax incentives do not create jobs.

    2. Studies by CBO and Dept. of Labor (the latter having been told to perform its study by Dubya) found that the single most effective tool for stabilizing the economy during a recession is unemployment insurance. Tax cuts for the wealthy were listed by both studies as DEAD LAST.

    3. You can have a cookie if you can explain why unemployment insurance has that effect while tax cuts for the wealthy don't. I'm willing to bet you can't reason it out. Go ahead...give it a try. What's that? You can't figure it out because RedState and WND and the rest don't have any informative, fact-based, statistics-citing memos on the subject? Awwwww, too bad...I guess you'll just have to continue your ad hominem attacks, pre-programmed talking points and buzz words.

Progressive Netroots stand for intelligent forward-thinking ideals and human rights. Rickster and friends would prefer turning the clock back 100 years and implementing their own radical right-wing social engineering agenda. Just ask Newt Gringrinch if you don't believe me.

Please explain to the class why any company would want to go on a "hiring spree" (except for Mc'Donald's apparently) while the GOP is threatening to tank the world economy by playing chicken with allowing the US to default on its national debt.

A gathering of the insane. Never have s many polictial hacks with leftist views gathered in one place. We are on a continuous downhill slide with the Campaigner & Chief – at least he excels at something becasue it sure isn't helping our economy or jobs.

Sniffit – It was the current president that did a tax cut during the recession, not the prior.

And let's be totally honest about the tax cuts...it was not just the wealthy that got their taxes cut under the Bush Admin. Take a look at the tax tables from 2000 and compare them to the tables from 2008. You will notice that the tax cuts impacted every level of income above $8375 (single). Heck, for married filing jointly, a family making $75,000 went from a tax bill of $15,299.50 in 2000 to a tax bill of $11,112.50 (a reduction of 27%). Seems like this was, in fact, a progressive tax cut, not just a cut for the wealthy.

Even 52,000 GAINED is better than where we were before the stimulus started. It doesn't take a progressive to see that.

Yes, yes, the elitest progressives know very well what is best for all of us. It is just too inefficient to let everybody be responsible or think and do for themselves. That is what the elitest nanny state government will do.

The problem comes when these pie in the sky "ideals" meet the hard road of reality. It always involves taking somebody elses money or wealth to give it to others, some of whom MAY deserve help, but more often than not far too many refuse to work to better there lives. And why should they if the government will steal from others to provide for them?

When you have THOUSANDS of government programs fostering government dependence while taxing fewer and fewer people, is it any mystery why we are going bankrupt as a nation? When the last dollar is taken from the last rich person, will we then be expected to take other countries wealth to support government dependence model?

The reasons socialists continue to hide behind the euphemism "progressive" is that they know that a big majority of Americans have no tolerance for socialism. That, of course, doesn't slow them down much–they're determined to impose socialism on us anyway because, of course, they're so much smarter than we are.

Day of Financial Reckoning Blah,Blah, Blah. I pointed out what I mean. Do you prefer LOOSING 750,000 jobs per month?? Even 52,000 GAINED is better than where we were before the stimulus started. It doesn't take a progressive to see that. Even now (next month) we face further problems from the stimulus ending, as states face massive layoffs as their portion of the stimulus runs out.

Regarding the 'Socialist Agenda', is it socialism to want decent roads and other infrastructure; to want to lead the world in innovation such as clean energy; and to have enough money to pay for it rather than borrow it, as we have done since Pres. Clinton was last in office?

Is it socialism to want better medical care for all Americans, as all of our peers have? Just because Socialist countries have these things doesn’t make them bad.

If you want a government that only helps enrich those already wealthy, while our infrastructure and world competitiveness are in danger, vote for more tax cuts. That is all the repugs have to offer.

Also, I personally did not support the extension of tax cuts last fall. We progressives don’t have to agree with our leaders on all issues.

I am glad Obama is in with McDonalds to attain those jobs but now he needs to find some that are at a living wage. He could have a lot more of the oil patch jobs that pay much better than McDonalds if he did not have to pander to the loons. But as we have seen the last two years Obama is about a specific leftist ideaology not the entire country's betterment. He would rather give Brazil billons for oild exploration and try to sell unwanted green energy that no one wants.

Gotta love that jobs line "saved or created" the libs are putting out there – 7 billion later, how much is that per job? We have almost 2 million more people out of work than when BO took office. People avoid talking about that one...
