Washington (CNN) – The Obama administration could be in violation of the War Powers Resolution if it fails to get congressional authorization by Sunday for U.S. participation in the Libya military mission, House Speaker John Boehner said Tuesday.
In a letter to President Barack Obama that his aides made public, Boehner complained that the administration has so far failed to address questions about the mission that were in a House resolution passed on June 3. That resolution set a two-week deadline for a response.

Everyone knows that we initiated the action in Libya and our Canadian,NATO & Arab allies are now doing the heavy lifting.
If you want to take action against the Administration, go ahead. I`m willing to bet however that you have no idea how much [or how little] involvement American forces have in Libya at present. You are bluffing and it wouldn`t surprise me if the Prez has set you up for embarassment should you press this.
I`l be under NATO`s charter, we are obligated to support any mission of theirs and if we are not conducting "the warfare" part, the War Powers Act does not apply.
Lastly, it appears that Kaddafhi`s time is limited – even in the context of the measured involvement that Obama has orchestrated. Do you REALLY want to interfere when this killer of PanAm103 Americans is on the ropes? Be my guest.

well the president has the authority to exercise military operations without the consent of congress as long as there is no official declaration of war (which there is not) as exhibited by bush senior in operation Desert Storm.

What is our mission in Libya? Are we sure we are not using our military to defeat Ghadafi for Al Qaeda? It's a good question that I'm sure future generations of Americans trust we have a good answer for. We are going to leave them in debt up to their ears. So now are we going to leave them an empowered enemy to deal with?

The War Powers Act needs to be repealed if no one intends to abide by it, and no one has to concern themseoves with any viloation of its constraints. Return to the constitution and only allow congress to pass a vote for war.

You should thank President Obama he chose NOT to seek charges against Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfield et al. Please answer us back and tell us WHY the POTUS is a war criminal. And as for Boehner how many boots are on the ground in Libya and how many American lives have been lost so far? Until you GOPers bring this subject up most Americans have forgotten all about the so-called war we are supposed to be fighting over there that doesn't exist.
The republicans complained that Obama sat on the sides with Libya. As soon as he initiated some action, they bitched some more. Catch 22. We all know there is only one thing that would make them happy.

The spirit of the War Powers act is to prevent a President from placing soliders on the ground, in harms way, and locking the US into conflicts where we Would be hard pressed to withdraw.
The WarPowersAct was born out of the Vietnam War and 50,000 US deaths in Vietnam.
Mr. Boehner, that is not the scenario we are facing with Libya.
I`m sorry, but I see your actions as camoflagued partisanship to harass the President, not a Speaker of the House concentrating on something the American People care about.
So here's an Idea: Let's WASTE THE NEXT TWO YEARS in a Supreme Court battle over the legality of the War Powers Resolution.
Congress is not going to do anything anyway, other that to draw an inflated paycheck every week or two.
And if the bozo conservatives (let's give BUSINESS the rights guaranteed to individuals, after all , they pay us more!!) on the Supreme Court uphold the Resolution, we can waste MORE years on an impeachment attempt. (During Barry's SECOND TERM!!!!) (And NOT a conviction, at least in the Senate.)
Gotta be easier than fixing this mess of an economy bush left us. Not that congress is even trying to fix the economy, not since the repugs got enough power to stop the dems.
