Debt ceiling demands: realistic or out there?

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - A lot of politicians are weighing in with demands before they'll support raising the debt ceiling. Most of their conditions are related to debt, such as put in place a debt reduction plan or cut spending.

But some conditions can't even claim to be third cousins once removed. Punish union defenders. Drill, baby drill. Revolutionize federal regulation.

Of course, it's not as if totally unrelated measures never make it into formal legislation.

Oil production is at a record high in this country. We cannot process any more. Need more refineries - want to drill more and sell it on the market at the highest rates? That sure will cut prices for us (NOT).

And the Pres. did NOT shut down drilling - only a few DEEP wells for 6 months ONLY. New permits have been going out daily for over 6 months. Soooooo - STFU.

These cut cut cut consumer money and tax cut for the rich, benefits only super international corporations, super corporations don't really Need American consumers, because they export most of their goods. The problem with them is that they don't hire regular Americans, they hires foreigners, robots and computer system to do their labors. Small businesses don't have that luxury. They need American workers therefore need local consumers, and since small businesses hires nearly 80 percent of American workers, the repugs cutting of American consumer spendings will devastate their businesses.

I, like most everyone else, think the Republicans are using the debt ceiling to push a social agenda. I also think the Democrats confused as to what to do about a stubborn opponent. The current fiscal budget is on the path laid by Bush. Is Obama the current President, and do the budgets have his name on them? Yes. Obama took over a complete disaster. It should be noted that Obama has sustained the Bush policies out of necessity. Bush was the first president to start a war and not raise taxes to pay for them.

Republicans need to stop misrepresenting the fact the budget deficit is a largely a result of the Bush Tax Cuts. Cuts that caused the Congress to raise the debt ceiling several times during the Bush years. Republicans are pushing for cuts that do not make a dent in the overall deficit. Trickle down economics has not created the jobs/revenue that we need to offset the costs of the Bush policies. We need a combination of revenue increases, enforcement of Medicare/Medicaid fraud, and defense cuts.
