Borger: The GOP evolution: From hawks to bean counters

Washington (CNN) - It was hard to miss, even if you weren't looking for it. The Republican Party - once identified and driven by its hawks - was morphing into a party driven by its bean counters.

The party that had accused Democrats of being soft on national security for decades was suddenly the party that wants out of Afghanistan yesterday - and isn't so sure we ought to have gone into Libya in the first place.

When the true leader of the republican culture of corruption, Rush Limbaugh, complains that President Obama ordered the death of the Samali pirates holding an American captain hostage, and then is upset that President Obama gave the order to terminate bin Ladin, you know that republicans never were into national security. Republicans are soft on jobs, soft on national security, soft on getting us out of the republican near depression, soft on facts, soft on constitutional rights, soft on standing up to Wall Street, big oil, and big banks.

Yet, they are the first to jump on the President and literally call him "weak" if he doens't jump right in to any fray.

    It's called hypocracy.

I don't agree, Gloria, that's how they want to portrait themselves now, but I remember how upset the Conservatives were when President Obama took "too long" to increase the number of Troops in Afghanistan! That was just a couple of years ago.

They are still hawks. Where were these GOPers when Bush was invading Iraq? Hmmmm?

right, bean counters. as soon as they have a reason to play the hawk again, the bean counting goes out the window.

Look around you now after Obama's policies have had their run. Unemployment is very high and who is making all the money now? Wall Street, Big Oil and big banks. Thank Obama, because he owns these results. That's where our $4 trillion of new debt went.

Let's just call this for what it REALLY is. The GOPers, the same ones that were crying about Obama doing nothing when the Libyian leader was killing his own people (note Newt's stand pre flip/flop) now are crying because he chose to do something. This is nothing new for the GOP since Obama took office in 2009, the plan is NOT to agree with this president on ANYTHING and they have united to do so. Tell me when in modern history have the Republicans been steadfast against ANY military conflict? During the early Bush years if you were against the Iraq war these right-wingers called you everything from anti-American to a Communist. It's different now because of course it's OBAMA!!

Republicans are not honorable. They haven`t been for 30 + years. They are scared, whiney and insecure.

They will lie to win and they only want to win to be in position to rape the country while nobody is looking. I hate what they stand for – because they don`t really stand for anything honorable.

The President is doing a solid job under difficult circumstances. I don`t think anyone in the GOP can do half as well.

They have no solutions that can pass any amout of legitamate scrutiny by someone who takes the time to think through what the Republicans are saying.

If Obama said the sky was BLUE, Republicans would swear – before God – that it was red.

This is why they will lose in 2012.
