WASHINGTON (CNN) - A bipartisan group of House members will file a lawsuit Wednesday challenging U.S. participation in the Libya military mission.
Meanwhile, President Barack Obama is set to defend U.S. military involvement in Libya to Congress, according to the White House.

Mike G:
Uhhh...no, they didn't do that with Iraq, because Bush followed the spirit of the Constitution and got overwhelming congressional approval! We're ALL about the country. Here's an idea for you...read the Constitution and THINK for yourself.
Bush goes to war with Congressional approval, you know, constitutionally and he's called a war-monger.
Obama goes to war, spits on our constitution and forgoes Congressional approval, and he's ok?
If Dubya went into Libya like Obama did CNN and Democrats would be hooping and hollering for his impeachment.
It's time to put the President in check. He works for America, we aren't his subjects. He needs to be put on trial as a war-criminal. Otherwise, he just set a precedent that ANY President can do what he just did in Libya. This isn't just about now, but the future of our country. What would have happened if George Washington didn't step down and help create Presidential term limits as President and accepted to be the king of America?
"Congress declared war on Iraq."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...funniest thing I read all day. Thanks for that.
"War powers act requires the president get the OK from Congress for wars."
Deadline isn't up yet.
Everyone who's commented, needs to look at the facts. How much money are we spending in Libya? According to the CONSTITUTION, only Congress can declare war and according to the War Powers Act, the President has to get approval for any military action that lasts longer than 60 days. Yes the President is the Commander in Chief of the military. However, the Founders worded the Constitution the way they did as a check on the other branch. Read your history people.
As far as this lawsuit being a waste of money or a distraction, I disagree. The lawsuit could save millions of dollars by not spending military dollars on a military action Congress didn't authorize. And as for the distraction part, the media has the attention of a 5 year old. If it's not sexy, scandelous, or partisan, their ratings slip. It's how America is today, which is wrong, but it is what it is.
As long as it is a Democrat Administration it's ok to break the War Powers Act. Abuse of power seems to be the storyline for the Spender in Chief and his inept robots in Washington.
What took so long?
I think impeaching him would be more worth while, regardless of the cost.
"Forget the War Powers Act"
Can't. Congress enacted it and the POTUS signed it. It's law and gives the POTUS pwoer to initiate military actions without Congressional approval for 60 days, at which opint troops must be withdrawn within the next 30 days if the approval isn't obtained. Deadline isn't up yet.
WOW I have never seen so many right wingers against war action. Oh that's right it's because OBAMA did it. NEVER MIND!
And where were these outspoken people when Bush was starting two phony wars? Oh right, Bush was a Republican so it was okay.
@Adam N: I could not have said it better myself.
"This is proof that Obama is just an Israeli puppet dancing to the tune of our twisted owners in TelAviv."
Boy...that's a new one. You and the crazies who think he's a secret kenyan-born muslim trying to turn the US into a socialist Islamic caliphate must have some fantastic conversations.
@Sniffit: The deadline is Sunday. He's already passed the 60 day mark, and we're coming up on that 90 day mark. Deadline might not be up yet, but it is literaly days away.
I thought a Dicktator can do whatever they want....This one is.
Sniffit,
Uh .. yes the deadline is up. Secondly, you must've let out that hearty chuckle on Congress's approval of Iraq because you're clueless: Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002, Pub.L. 107-243, 116 Stat. 1498, enacted October 16, 2002, H.J.Res. 114
Sue? How about IMPEACH him
I guess depending on where the liberals stand we'll find out if they're democrats (Congress) or the Obama Party (messiah followers).
America today is as free as the gladiators were back in the day. If you do what you are told you have so-called freedom, if not you are slaves.....
president has lot of powers as an executive....o.k,
"Uh .. yes the deadline is up."
Nope. 90 days is this coming Sunday. Given that we don't have any soldiers on the ground, Obama can comply by simply saying "stop" on Friday or Saturday.
Pink Elephant, What the heck are you doing presenting facts to liberals? You know that makes their head explode.
Interesting comments. Our country is so screwed up. People are posting on here that we should just forget about Obama fighting an illegal war in Libya. The problems we face in this country are all encompassing. There are posters upset that nothing was done when Bush went to war with Iraq. So for that reason we are to give Obama a pass. The logic there escapes me. This should be a wake up call for every American to vote people in with integrity and character (good, that is) instead the lot we have. If in 2012 we vote in the same jerks we have in Washington, regardless of party, this country will continue to sink. America is unique in its form of government. If we trash the constitution as this admin has done for over 2 years, we will have nothing left. If you like the idea of living under tyranny such as in Russia, China, Libya, Iran (or any Muslim nation) then just keep voting these people in who care only about their political careers. Obama is a narcissist and those out there who don't see it yet, will wake up one day to find America gone. Most people in America have no idea what it cost our ancestors to make America nor do they understand what it is like to have no freedom to voice their opinions (no matter how wrong they are). But if we don't stop these people ruining this country and start thinking about something other than our own problems, we will have bigger problems – like no freedom. This country has become so selfish it isn't funny. Yes the government gives our money away to foreign countries in times of need, but overall the populace of America has become selfish and greedy. Those are the core reasons why from the top down this country is corrupt. No one cares about the hardship of the guy next door, rather they look out for themselves only. America has lost its sense of goodness. Without that we are sunk. That which made America great has been lost. Instead of listening to what these politicians tells us, let's make public what they DO. Expose them for what they really are and vote in people of integrity who can lead.
"Deadline might not be up yet, but it is literaly days away."
That's still not a violation of the War Powers Act then, is it? Again, given that there are no boots on the ground requiring massive withdrawal plans, our involvement can stop almost instantaneously. It's pretty much just extremist conservatives salivating over the idea that the GOP might get to impeach him over this and experiencing premature political-ejaculation by claiming he's already violated it and that impeachment should be tomorrow.
Sniffit: Um hm.. that's going to happen by this Sunday. Never mind military officials saying it's imminent that soon there will be "boots on the ground". So where will you be on Sunday or Monday? Hiding over at DailyKOS?
