Weiner resigns after sexting scandal

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Rep. Anthony Weiner resigned from office Thursday, saying, "Unfortunately, the distraction that I have created" has made it "impossible" to continue his work in Congress.

Weiner apologized "for the personal mistakes I have made and for the embarrassment I have caused" to his neighbors, his constituents, and his wife.

    That's really too bad.
Wished they'd pushed just as hard with so many others that definitely should've been made to resign but are still collecting a government paycheck for a job poorly done in spite of their sexually predatory and blatantly unlawful behaviour.
Don't ask for names. You all know perfectly well who they are.

Good Lord!! Look at what others have done (actual sex, soliciting hookers – both male and female) and nothing. chirp chirp

But it's an election year folks. The repubs want to oust dems, sue the president, cause failure in our country to get rid of President Obama.

What next?? Be very afraid of Norquist, Koch, Dick Army, etc. They are evil to the bone.

The repubs will do ANYTHING for more POWER AND CONTROL so they can get the kick-backs from corporations that send OUR jobs overseas.

Their sole aim is to make President Obama one-term. That's been stated BLATANTLY over and over. Too much hate and lies, and not enough clear thinking in our House of Delegates for helping US.

As an Americans that expects in honesty in repeated public pronouncements from elected officials, I hope all independent thinking voters [progressives, moderates & conservatives] join me in applauding the Democrats for taking the steps to make it clear to Anthony Weiner that he should step down.

The move demonstrates some evidence that some modicum of honor, ingrity & accountability still reside in at least 1 party. I call on the other party to step up to the plate and MATCH the Democrats very visible example.

With such a fine, smart, hard working loving & devoted family man as President, Mr. Obama has raised the bar for all.

He is changing the culture in Washington by his example and Americ is better for it.

Finally! Now can we please put Mr. Weiner (and his package) out to pasture and get back to the real issues that are affecting our nation? My sympathy is with his wife. I can't imagine the anger and shame she must be going through and she's pregnant.

Why is it the Democrats resign and the Republicans apologize and "turn their lives around?" Guess because of all their family values!

Let me refresh the Democrats short memory. Do you remember back in February of this year when Republican Congressman Chris Lee of New York sent a a shirtless photo of himself to a woman who was not his wife? John Boehner bounced him out of Congress BEFORE the news story became public.
What is with you people in New York? Can't you do better than these losers you have been electing to public office?

The needs of the MANY outweigh the needs of the FEW or of the ONE.

No haem to the party; Democratic Governor Cuomo gets to name the interim replacement and that Brooklynn/Queens district will STAT Democratic in an election.

It was the in-your-face-lying that did him in. He could have been banging the porn actress and I wouldn`t have cared – at least as it pertains to him keeping his job.

Well, that's that then. Is what it is. This means that this article is the second to last article about the "scandal," right CNN? You'll do one more when he makes his resignation speech and stop trying to sensationalize and milk it for ratings and ad-revenue and thereby distracting everyone from what's actually important, right?

too bad Vitter won't do the same, but he's a family values guy, forgiven by his wife, God, and the GOP so he gets to stay in office and raise more money for the party. SAD

as President, Mr. Obama has raised the bar for all.

Okay. You got me with that one. I agree.
Once the President weighed in, I guess Weiner had no choice.
I still maintain, though, that the transgression wasn't worthy of the punishment.

He did a huge disservice to the good people he served when he lied and compromised his integrity. This is finally the correct thing to do and I applaud him for it.

They listen in on our phone conversations and watch our tweets - we need to demand cameras in their homes and offices. WE PAY THEIR SALARIES.

Stop voting for idiots. Stop voting for people that care more for $$$$ than for the people of this country.

Your high-horse is standing in quicksand, junior. Sanctimonious hypocrisy isn't a terribly good foundation.

We can try this another way if you'd like: does this mean we get to call for the resignation of every single GOPer who claimed that the ACA contained "death panels"?

No, resignations are serious business. It should only reserved for verifiable lies. Like, " If we spend $850 billion on this program now it will create or save 4 million jobs.".

so can we take it that you feel Sentor Vitter, who actually committed a crime, should have resigned as well?

By resigning Mr. Weiner is demonstrating that he has a sense of morals, that he has not completely lost his way. I would applaud Mr. Weiner for demonstrating leadership in doing what is best for the country and not might be best for himself. Instead of calling for some on the other side of the aisle to resign, it should be stressed that they wish to continue to live a life of daily sin, greed, and satanic pleasures.
