Paul packs them in at major GOP conference

New Orleans (CNN) – Rep. Ron Paul sure knows how to draw a crowd.

Extra chairs were brought into the already packed hotel ballroom where the Republican Leadership Conference is being held to accommodate a swarm of loud and energetic supporters of the longtime congressman from Texas, who is making his third bid for the White House.

And those supporters loudly applauded Paul throughout his address, as he preached against American involvement in overseas wars and alliances by saying, "Americans are sick and tired of no-win wars around the world."

Paul also argued against the government's monetary policy, against the Federal Reserve, and against too much government regulation, saying "the fact that we have too many laws is what the problems are."

And he used his speech to tout civil liberties and family values, declaring that "rights and liberties come from your God, not your government. Besides, government is not very good at teaching morality."

Paul polls in the low double digits or high single digits in most of the recent national surveys in the battle for the GOP presidential nomination, but some pundits handicap his chances of wining the nomination because they criticize him as being out of the mainstream GOP because of his philosophy.

But Paul started and closed his speech by saying that most Republicans are beginning to see things his way, saying that they are "starting to use our language."

All I can know of 20 Black Americans in the Memphis Area that will vote for Ron Paul. They realize the FEDs are extorting the states & ruining our country. Ron wants the States to do what the FEDs are NOT doing, but say theyre going to do. You Liberals make it sound like he wants are lying & misinforming ppl

some say third time is a charm, I say three strikes and you're out. Mr Paul needs to find something to do besides run for president every four years. He has a cult following but that is about it.

They used to say he was crazy, but people listened, and found out he wasn't. Now they say he's right, but he can't win. It's the last chance the old media has.

America needs a commander in chief who is strong enough to stand up to the banks, and expose the scam of printing money. A president with the courage to stand in the line of fire, risking his own life, against America's true enemy.

The cat is out of the bag. He will be elected.

He has some legitimate points to make but GOP extremists will never win the country because that is in the middle and these guys are way over the top.

Ron Paul taught his son Rand Paul to be a racist to win Kentucky and that's exactly what he did, but America isn't Kentucky and I will never for get the name Paul due to this.

Really! Did you ever think Dr. Paul is gaining support? Nah, the media can't have that, because that would make you look like liars. @ diridi Really a communist? He is the only candidate that wants to give you more freedoms and you call him a communist. Some people really need to let go of the scare tatics from the media and let freedom rise. Most of the people who call him crazy or kooky no nothing about him. You think you do from the talking heads that tell you their spin, but you really haven't done your homework.

Like the extreme liberal 1960's hippies that rejected societal norms in place of overly simplistic solutions for highly complex issues; Ron Paul is the right-wing version of those leftist extremist.

This ancient libertarian-extremist talks a good game but if you listen with discerning ears, Paul’s ideas would never work in real America. His ideas are pipe dreams that can never make it off the drawing board.

Sorry Libs....if Black Americans are willing to vote for Ron Paul on the Memphis area then the GOP would be smart to back Paul (why? The GOP stated it wanted to branch out to Blacks & Hispanics). Those demographics support Ron Paul's ideas as far as GOP candidates. Hint Hint Hint.....the GOP really doesn't want the minority vote because they get it w the DEMs. Folks, they are the same Socialists on both sides and both ruining America. I'm glad some minorities are figuring it out despite all the Propaganda the REPs/DEMs/Media bombard them with.....there is Hope & Change for Real & its......RON PAUL 2012!!!

@ LOL are you upset that he didn't pay you in? Or just upset that your candidate didn't pay you in? Do you support your candidate so much so that you are willing to travel to sho them your support?

He was the only SANE one in the debate Monday night. Can't agree with everything, but sure beats the heck out of the bigotted bible-thumping ego-maniacs. And Newt? OMG!!!

@ Xdreamartist, "He has a cult following but that is about it"....Obama must be who you are referring to. While Paul does have a passionate and perhaps "cult"ish following, he actually has serious substance. Substance trumps flash any day. His growing support is due to the truth that is coming out of his mouth.

@ wise too bad the rest of the world are responding to his ideas. Hippie why? Because he doesn't want to dictate what you put in your body? We are putting people away for smoking pot for life all the while we let violent offenders and child molesters out in some cases as little time as a year or less.

Marie MD – was that a serious comment?

He was against the wars under Bush AS WELL! His record clearly shows that. I may not agree with him on every issue but at least do the man some service and actually do some research regarding his positions before posting complete nonsense again.

Let's make one thing very clear: roads and schools are not a right. Rights are not given by government either, they exist because you are a human being which is the point he is trying to make. You own your own life and the consequences of the choices you make. You have the right to life, liberty, and to be unobstructed by another in pursuit of happiness. If something doesn't sound right in any politician's speech, you can use google and clarify it.

"because they criticize him as being out of the mainstream GOP because of his philosophy"

And you indicated that was a bad thing?

That should be a point in his favor given what the other GOP lamestream candidates are selling.

Being out of the mainstream GOP philosophy, puts him more in stream with the general electorate.

Paul is a racist, why do you think he lost the past 2 times. Wake up people and stop falling for this guy. Everything he wan't to do can't be done at an executive level. How are you going to get votes to abolish the fed? How are you going to get votes to legalize prostitution, marijuana, etc........If he would win the nomination he will do just like his son did and accept the money from the GOP elites, there goes your liberatarian as soon as the checks start, you know it and I know it. Paul will never win just as Trump predicted, and the only way he is leading is because the current crop of loser and re-treads suck massively.

I've read the old newletters he wrote and I guarantee Cain hasn't, and the 20 blacks voting for Paul (because of the fed LMAO), Paul can't play the games they want therefore he won't win.

This is the ONLY man who understands our fiscal monetary crisis and he is anti- establishment / anti-staus quo. The rest of the GOP candidates are nothng but corporate puppets- even Bachman (whose family btw has no problem accepting farm subsidies, anyone want to dump some tea on that?). If you dont understand the IMF and the dollar you dont get Ron Paul. Do your homework people – he is our only hope. And he is leading in every internet poll ....
