(CNN) – U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner's resignation from the House of Representatives will be official Tuesday, according to a statement from his office.
Weiner, D-New York, announced his resignation June 16 in a press conference, but his letter of resignation will be read in a meeting of the House on Tuesday.
"It has been an honor to serve the people of Queens and Brooklyn," Weiner said in his letter.
A month after Weiner's Twitter account showed lewd photos of the representative, he resigned with little support from either party.
Weiner initially said the photos were the work of a hacker, but later recanted his story and apologized for his actions.
He had refused to resign even at the insistence of other members of the Democratic Party, who called Weiner's media presence and the scandal a "distraction."
Weiner apologized "for the personal mistakes I have made and for the embarrassment I have caused" in his June 16 announcement.
CNN's Dana Bash contributed to this report.
I hope whoever has to handle this letter wears gloves....Lord knows what a document from that sleazebag might be infected with
Why hasn't the GOP demanded the same standard of its memebers? I hate that Weiner was forced out based on some pictures that were sent back and forth. Vitter and Craig actually made physical contact with other people. Vitter actually used hookers. Why isn't he in jail or at least out of office?
Well, well, well.... Only took this more than slightly slow "Progressive" Democrat 4 weeks to do what he should have done the first day. Good riddance pervert!
And what's with the "signature"? Did this idiot ever learn how to write his name?
Ok Dana! You can put the story to rest now already. I"m not concerned on the exact date and time of his resgination. Geesh!
i hope this is the last of the cirus that has been going on for wks... good riddence...
NOTICE to the lame stream media – Weiner is gone, now let's get to the important business of creating JOBS by the party of hell no except for the rich and corporations (and the old farts of the sotus who continue to give BIG corporations a pass).
That being said, since the rethugs could care less about the middle class and the poor let's go after diaper man vitter and any other rethug who has soiled those "family values" they love to talk about!
What kind of signature is that Weiner?
It may seem small but I believe that if a man is proud of his work he affixes his name to that work proudly and legibly. The message that I conclude when I see scribble is that the person does not care about the quality of their work.
It's not cool or sophisticated to have an illegible signature. It's just like the kids at school who play down their intelligence to fit in.
"Vitter and Craig actually made physical contact with other people."
And broke laws. But the difference is that the media believes firmly that IOKIYAR, especially if all that happened is we HEARD about your naughty behavior but didn't have to look at your wang. Therefore, Captain Manpampers Vitter gets a free pass and a standing ovation from the entirety of a GOP luncheon at the same time the story breaks about him callnig wh-res on the floor of the congressional chamber.
Politicians are Americas only renewable resource.
Is it just me, or does his "signature" look a little too much like a weiner if you turn your head sideways? Seriously...
The American Public should have zero say on this. The only Americans who should have a say are the constituents in Weiner's district, the majority of whom by the way, said he should stay because he was doing a good job. It's funny to me the GOP initiated a battle cry for his dismissal and resignation, but David Vitter still has his job (and was re-elected). David Vitter committed an actual crime; he paid for sex. He purchased sex from prostitutes. Anthony Weiner engaged in some online play; no crime was committed. Was Anthony Weiner committing an immoral act for a U.S. Congressman? Yes, yes he was. But it sure as heck is funny that Republicans (and cowardly Dems afraid to stand up to the GOP) called for Weiner's resignation when I don't recall any Republican in power asking Vitter to step down. In fact, they didn't even ask John Ensign to resign. The only reason Ensign left was because he was under a Senate investigation for something else entirely.
Ok fine...now when does Sen Vitter, who really DID commit a crime , summit his??
@ Democrat Class Welfare – why not take your hypocritical comment and turn your attention to David Vitter? Remember him? The REPUBLICAN senator who actually committed a crime and paid for sex with prostitutes... Yeah ... he not only kept his job he was re-elected. Double-standard much? Oh wait, since he's a "conservative," all he had to do was pray for God's forgiveness... I'm sorry, pardon my forgetfulness in how that double-standard works for the GOP. You fail.
Bill Clinton Anyone? He Actually Had An Affair. Lied About It And Stayed In Office. Weiner Posted Pics(Yes A Dumb Move) And Had To Resign After People Like Bill, And Hilary Pressured Him... There's Your Hypocrisy.
