Senate approves Panetta's nomination as defense secretary

Washington (CNN) - The Senate on Tuesday gave final approval to CIA Director Leon Panetta's nomination to become defense secretary when Robert Gates steps down at the end of June.

Panetta's approval on a unanimous 100-0 vote was widely expected after the former congressman and Clinton administration official received bipartisan support during his confirmation hearing earlier this month

100-0. OMG we have a functional Senate. And then I came back to reality. What else did you expect? He's responsible for the killing of OBL. It would have been political suicide for the senator who voted against his confirmation. Congratulations Sec. Panetta.

It was only 100 to 0 because the subject was putting someone in charge of the DOD (Department of Defense) – the GOP's sacrosant cow.

Furthermore this Democrat, which played a fundamental role in gettting bin Laden, couldn't possilbe be resisted by the warm mongering party.

As an aside, while I applaud the President's excellence in managing succession plans, I do hope he is filling the pipeline with 40-somethings so we don't have to rely on 75-year-olds from 2012-2016 or in subsequent Democratic Administrations in 2016-to-2024.
