Washington (CNN) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid ventured into the 2012 presidential waiting game Tuesday, offering up his pick for the Republican presidential nomination.
"If I had a choice, I would favor Huntsman over Romney," Reid told reporters after a meeting on Capitol Hill. "But I don't have a choice in that race."
When asked if the country is ready for a Mormon president, the Nevada senator said they are not ready for Mitt Romney. Reid, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman and Romney are all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
"I think the frontrunner in the Republican stakes now, here is a man who doesn't know who he is," Reid said of Romney.
The Nevada Democrat pointed to Romney's positions on gay marriage, abortion and health care as signs the former Massachusetts governor has flip-flopped on his positions.
"We modeled our bill to a large degree about what he did in Massachusetts. Now he is trying to run from that," Reid said, referencing the health care reform bill Romney signed as governor. "If someone doesn't know who they are they shouldn't be president of the United States."

The odor of conspiracy fills the room,. Dems and the media willingly endorsing a Republican ?
Republicans prefer bimbos.
Couldn't agree with you more Reid. Romney is like a grasshopper never know where he's going to land next...what a moron!
Wow, kiss of death much? Sorry bout that, Jon.
is Harry looking for a job in the Huntsman administration??
You tell 'em Harry!
Reid is right...although we all know that even Huntsman will not succeed against Obama. Unfortunately, being a Mormon is going to keep him from the GOP nomination (not that I think that is good).
Smart move, Reid. Huntsman is easily Obama's biggest threat in the general election. So by tarnishing his image suring the republican primaries by offering the support of the senate majority leader, Huntsman's chances of winning the primary are nil.
"If someone doesn't know who they are they shouldn't be president of the United States."
========================================================================
Or in Obama's case...
"If someone doesn't tell who they are they shouldn't be president of the United States."
The Democrats sure are afraid of Romney!!!!!!!!!!!! Bye Bye Obama...
I would not vote for ANY republican running but if I had to neither Mitt or Huntsman would get my vote. Huntsman is nothing but Mitt Lite just a little more polished. Romney is the WORST candidate running period. I wouldn't trust that guy to take out my garbage. It's disgraceful that neither he nor his five precious sons EVER served in the U.S. military but he has no problem sending our sons and daughters out to fight. To hell with him. I detest him and every lie he speaks. As much as I despise Palin she looks good compared to him. The republicans don't have anyone to seriously run against Obama and they KNOW it. They just want to hear themselves speak.
Smooth move Harry (were you aware?).
By giving Huntsman the seal of Democratic approval you are making it more difficult for him to be embraced by the contrary- and-obstinate-for-no-reason RethugliKKKlan fold.
The kiss of death so to speak.
Obama 2012
Hooray! Another super-rich Republican who hasn't done squat nominates himself for President.
Noticed that Huntsman's staff disclosed that he was at a "House Party" with Daddy and Mama Bush in Kennebunkport a few weeks ago. How lovely.
"We modeled our bill to a large degree about what he did in Massachusetts. Now he is trying to run from that," Reid said
BULL. You, Senator Reid, took what Romney did in Massachusetts, took ALL the good things out of it and then added a WHOLE BUNCH OF BAD STUFF. The difference is also one of SCALE. Mass is a STATE. imposing a health plan onto the NATION doesn't work the same way, because of differences in local economy. In a SMALL state like Mass, you can get away with it. In a LARGE state (like, oh TEXAS or CALIFORNIA) it's going to fail MISERABLY.
GOOD move Harry
Mr. Huntsman -
In your announcement you praised Ronald Reagan. It was Reagan that introduced the country to the "Trickle Down Economics". You harken back to the days of Reagan as your model of economic greatness for America. Our 40th President almost DOUBLED the National Debt – - debt we STILL haven't paid off – - so please be careful when you embrace him as your sensei for economic management.
My question for you is simple: Do you endorse Reagan's "Trickle Down" theory? YES or NO? Will this be your economic strategy too? Don't dance around the question sir.
Can I expect you to support tax cuts for the well-to-do under the LIE that they are "Job Creators" and that a tax cut for them will bolster the economy?
Hey Harry... run out of work to be doing? How's that budget coming? It's only been a few years since you passed one. Where are all the budget cuts? This guy is a complete moron. I can't believe Nevada screwed the country over again by re-electing this punch drunk imbecile.
"The odor of conspiracy fills the room,. Dems and the media willingly endorsing a Republican ?"
Thank you for providing yet more proof that people don't look past the headline. He expressed a preference for Huntsman over Romney...much as someone would express a preference for being punched in the face over getting run over by a Ford F150. You can rest assured it was in no way an endorsement of Huntsman.
For the guy who thinks Romney will become president – let me turn your lights on: Bain Capital was responsible for carving up companies for profit while laying off hundreds of thousands of employees so Mitt could be rich–yet his tells all that he knows business and how to create jobs. His record will catch up to his mouth sooner than he thinks. He is no leader, and no world leader would want to be in the same room with him. He is a Ken doll – anatomically incorrect, no less, and If Vladimir Putin were in a room and Mitt entered it, Mitt would take a dump in his sacred underpants and run away scared......and with that, the score so far is: Mitt: 0, Obama: 2012.
harry is right on.... it will be huntsman... america has jut went thru the worest economic disaster since 1920 s .. throw out all the old play books ...it will be obama ..huntsman....
OMG It should not matter if he is Mormon just like it should not matter if he is Catholic, Jewish. Just like it shouldn't matter if he is Green, Purple, Blue, Yellow and Yes BLACK. What should matter is what he wants to bring to the country. I will say this we are ready for a WOMAN and Bachmann should bow out. I further say if in 2016 If Hillary Clinton ran she would make it a very very tight Race and does have a very very good chance of winning.
We modeled our bill to a large degree about what he did in Massachusetts.

Hey Harry... where in the Constitution does it say the federal government can force a citizen to buy a private product? I thought the oath of office you took said you'd protect and defend the Constitution? Instead you have chosen to violate it, willfully and knowingly. For that, the Democrats will pay a very high price in 2012. The 2010 election was just the first installment.
"Hey Harry... run out of work to be doing? How's that budget coming?"
Do you even understand the difference between the House and Senate?
If social conservative/Tea Party GOP voters can get rid of the ideological purity test hang-up, a moderate Republican like Huntsman or Romney can be a real challenge for Obama. This bodes well for Obama because social conservatives/Tea Party zealots will not accept either one as their presidential candidate.
Wow, Harry. Just put an (R) after your name already.
Huntsman will be probably the most formiddable opponent Obama can face because he is an unknown amongst most people. Much like Obama was able to ride a wave of public discontent to the WH Huntsman will try to ride the wave of a bad economy however idk if that will be enough to make Independents jump ship.
