Palin Sudan trip a no-go

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin canceled a July trip to Sudan due to "scheduling problems," a source with knowledge of the trip confirmed to CNN Thursday.

Palin was scheduled to travel to the southern part of the war-savaged country with Franklin Graham, son of evangelical leader Billy Graham, to attend the July 9 independence ceremony, information she first told a London newspaper earlier this month.

"She is not going to Sudan due to scheduling problems," said the source, who would not speak on the record because Palin's travel itinerary is considered private.

Palin's representatives refused to comment on the trip. News of the cancelation was first reported by The Washington Post.

But a spokesman for Graham said he still plans to travel to the North African country and confirmed that he and Palin spoke on the phone last week.

"She would be a very good person to help draw attention to the plight of the Christians in South Sudan," Graham told The Post. "We've got George Clooney, we've got some Hollywood-type people. I'm very grateful for what Mr. Clooney has done. But we need everybody we can find."

The two traveled to Haiti in December to visit Samaritan's Purse relief projects. Franklin is president and CEO of the humanitarian organization.

Palin's decision follows several weeks of silence from the potential presidential candidate, raising questions about the future plans for her bus tour. She addressed the reports on her Facebook page Wednesday, saying she has jury duty and is "looking forward to hitting the open road again" when "the next leg of the tour continues when the time comes."

The former GOP vice presidential candidate traveled up the East Coast earlier this month on the first leg of her "One Nation" bus tour.

Truth is she just learned that if she went to Barrow, Alaska, she can see Sudan from there, so no need to go, and saves the jetlag etc. Good for her...

I am not into a type of religion, but this graham son is a fake and he will never be one tenth of who his father is. @oregan calling . you are right about the Sudan not being a place where she will get a lot of attention but the media continues to follow her to hell where she is going to end up.
That being said I want to tell graham not to worry if you didn't get any from her in Haiti and you won't have a chance in Sudan there's always that bus tour while her husband is out trolling for his own ho.

Southern Sudan does not need Plain nor Billy Grahams son. The people of the Sudan will take care of there own business the way it is deemed they want it. The Southern Sudan Christians plight is a political ploy. How about we try to fix the plight of all the Southern Sudan people. They are embarking in a transition that will give them there independence and what we need to work is help them build there country without any strings attached. Palin is a joke. Africa does not need her and she ought stay home before making a fool of herself and a preacher who suddenly thinks he is needed and what a coincidence is it going to happen during the time of Independence. at this point the people of Southern Sudan are thinking gain there independence and how to live in peace with Northern Sudan. Where were you all those years when the religious problem was happening and now suddenly you want to be the saviors. Africans can solve there own issues it people, countries keep ther hands away and keep there suggestions to themselves. If she does go I hope the media reports true facts about her and the preachers travels.

I suppose she couldn't travel in her favorite Lear Jet and canceled. She is such a no show that you could expect her to do the same as she did as Mayor for Wasilla, Gov. of Alaska and now this! Just Quit!

Franklin Graham; sorry to need to say this, but you don't hold a candle to your father. Your father's focus was the kingdom of God. It seems your kingdom is the politics of the right wing. "No man can serve two masters." It is so unfortunate that many (such as you and Huckabee) have chosen a new master. Christ said: "My kingdom is not of this world, if it was, my disciples would fight." WHENEVER clergy have involved themselves in politics (check your history) it has resulted in a blending of church and state. WHENEVER that has happened, the disciples of Christ have born the brunt of persecution. If we fail to learn from history we are doomed to repeat its past mistakes.
