Palin Sudan trip a no-go

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin canceled a July trip to Sudan due to "scheduling problems," a source with knowledge of the trip confirmed to CNN Thursday.

Palin was scheduled to travel to the southern part of the war-savaged country with Franklin Graham, son of evangelical leader Billy Graham, to attend the July 9 independence ceremony, information she first told a London newspaper earlier this month.

"She is not going to Sudan due to scheduling problems," said the source, who would not speak on the record because Palin's travel itinerary is considered private.

Palin's representatives refused to comment on the trip. News of the cancelation was first reported by The Washington Post.

But a spokesman for Graham said he still plans to travel to the North African country and confirmed that he and Palin spoke on the phone last week.

"She would be a very good person to help draw attention to the plight of the Christians in South Sudan," Graham told The Post. "We've got George Clooney, we've got some Hollywood-type people. I'm very grateful for what Mr. Clooney has done. But we need everybody we can find."

The two traveled to Haiti in December to visit Samaritan's Purse relief projects. Franklin is president and CEO of the humanitarian organization.

Palin's decision follows several weeks of silence from the potential presidential candidate, raising questions about the future plans for her bus tour. She addressed the reports on her Facebook page Wednesday, saying she has jury duty and is "looking forward to hitting the open road again" when "the next leg of the tour continues when the time comes."

The former GOP vice presidential candidate traveled up the East Coast earlier this month on the first leg of her "One Nation" bus tour.

I'm sure the Sudanese people are heartbroken... Oh, and LOVE the back-handed compliment Jr. Graham gave George Clooney, who has been working in the Sudan for YEARS – maybe longer than Graham has – "She would be a very good person to help draw attention to the plight of the Christians in South Sudan," Graham told The Post. "We've got George Clooney, we've got some Hollywood-type people. I'm very grateful for what Mr. Clooney has done. But we need everybody we can find."

"We've got George Clooney, and we've got some Hollywood-type people?" Nice.

The thought of the Palinites making a pilgrimage to the Sudan for the sake of Palin's career makes me sick.

@Rennee' Hernandez, the reason he said "plight of the Christians..." is because Sudan's militant Muslim regime is slaughtering Christians who refuse to convert to Islam. There is genocide going on in the Sudan. The government of Sudan has unleashing Arab militias known as Janjaweed to kill non-Muslims. Have you not heard what is going on in Darfur and other parts of the Sudan?

Hey Thomas dont you mean Sarah has the touch of the wicked witch of the east and the wisdom of a rock. What is it with your love OBSESSION with this D student, lying, quitter and an excuse of an American. She is not leader material, she is not educated, she is not pretty, has no morals. The only logical reason I cna think of why you mouth breathers are infatuated with Sarah is "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". I hope you do find a way to get her nominated for the Republican representative for the election of the President of the United States, so I can sit back and watch all off you as you reach for the pill bottles, ropes, or whatever your choice is for offing yourselves because she will lose, and lose worse than any other candidate has lost in a Presidential election in the history of the United States. Outside you so called 20 % (I think it is more like 5 % in reality), no one likes this woman and no one other than you 5 % will even think about voting for her. Why do you think your own party is praying that she will not run? If you are sincere about having a woman represent the GOP in the 2012 election, why dont you put your support behind Kay Bailey Hutchinson, heck even Condolizza Rice (Ihope I spelled her name correctly), somebody that has brain that wont get us all killed or destroy our nation.

She is not going for wo reasons. Her dollar figure was not met along with other terms for an agreement and she could not get the media coverage in place to cover her money making visit. I thought it was kind of funny that this woman quit her job as the Gov. of Alaska, to the relief of all Alaskans but this woman couldn't even complete a "One Nation" Bus Tour. She quit her own bus. I must give her credit where credit is due. She is consistent. She is two for two in "Quitting".

She had to stay home to take care of out of control offspring (Bristol). Also realized Sudan did not have a disneyworld she could visit or Marriot she could stay at.

This is good. The Sudanese people have already suffered enough as it is. Sending Palin to their shores would be a violation of the Geneva Conventions.

Well if she had started she would have had to be careful, because there is a spot over the Atlantic Ocean where you can not turn back. You have to keep going. I think Mrs. Quitter had better be sure she knows where it is before she starts. You know, just to be safe.
