House defeats resolution expressing support for U.S. role in Libya

(CNN) - The House of Representatives has voted against a resolution expressing support for the U.S. role in the NATO-led military campaign in Libya.

The House is expected to vote on a bill later today sharply restricting funding for U.S. military actions in Libya. While the bill is believed to have little chance of passing the Senate, approval in the House would be widely viewed as a rebuke of President Barack Obama's policy in the North African country.

    Good!

Ghadaffi is now a friend of the GOP Tea Party!!
Americans killed in the Lockerbie bombing doesn't matter any more!
Ghadaffi killing his own people is acceptable to the GOP and their policy!

I remember when bush started two fake wars, the dems showed our country's solidarity, by backing the repugs even though they didn't want this. They made our enemy know that our bond and that the enemy could not divide and conquor our country. These repugs want this president to fail so bad, they are willing to dump this country just to please the right lunatics in their party, and get back all three powers in congress. To finish off the American people with the same failed trickle down policies that have been ravishing our country fo the past 10 years.

Good, it's about time this idiot got reeled in before he gets us involved in "humanitarian" bombing raids all over the globe. It is clear Obama has very little regard for the Congress and our form of government. He has repeatedly tried to bypass and circumvent them in MANY ways. The appointment of huge numbers of "czars" which do not require congressional confirmation comes to mind. With regards to Libya, he totally disregarded Congress and went to the UN and the Arab League! Talk about spitting in the face of our elected Senators and Representatives??!!

Whew!! We dodged a bullet there. Glad we're not part of NATO. That way we don't have to be like those nations we drug into Iraq. We wouldn't have to pull our weight as part of NATO. America's got it made. We can drag other nations into our senseless wars, but we don't have to reciprocate. Cool! Ooops. My bad. The U.S. is part of NATO (who's leading the charge in Libya by the way). I guess the folks in the House are defying Sarah Palin who suggested that the President was weak for failing to go in "gunza blazin" into Libya. You know, the No-fly-zone?. OBAMA DID NOT WANT TO GO, REMEMBER. I thought not. Figures

"approval in the House would be widely viewed as a rebuke of President Barack Obama's policy in the North African country."

Yeah, rebuke that says "we hereby authorize what you're currently doing, but we're pretending to be upset." Please. We've already stopped bombing runs and the bill is basically written to authorize precisely what we're still doing while pretending to defund everything we've stopped doing. What a freekin farce. But hey, far be it from CNN or the rest of the "news" media to talk about it in a substantive manner...better to sensationalize a controversy for ratings and ad revenue, right? That's the better way to serve the public interest, right?

Aaaand, let's not forget...Rooney's "We're Telling You What to Do by Authorizing You to Do What You're Already Doing and Calling it a Rebuke" Bill will NOT pass the Senate. The GOPers and the chickensh-t Dems that support it are making a safe play for political points.

Breaking news! GOP declares implicit support for Moammar Ghadaffi and his right to kill our citizens and his own! All in the name of trying to cause President Obama to fail. Wow, what's next guys? Invite the Taliban to one of your conferences to speak about the All-American values of religious purity?

What's the matter CNN? Avoiding any reporting on McConnell admitting, explicitlly, yesterday that we're seeing major opposition to the Libya action from the GOP simply because it's a Dem in the WH? He quite literally said that.

This is the same group of politicians who voted to cut $500M from W.I.C. in favor of keeping $4B in oil subsidies. They are from the same pary who wants to keep $800B in tax cuts when our deficits are running over one trillion dollars.

While the Republicans are focused on 2012, I think they are forgetting about 2011. They do not seem to think that it is important.

It's amazing how liberals spin this. Obama had a clear way to get approval, and in all likelihood would have received it if he didn't reject Congress. Obama had bipartisan support, so what on earth was he thinking? Even the Justice Dept told him that he needed to get approval from Congress. Instead he chose to tell Congress to butt out? Obama's actions are now clearly illegal, but the stupid thing is that he could have done this the right way all along! Taking the Clinton approach and trying to re-define the word hostilities, is absurd. Obama's arrogance here will not serve him well.

The GOP just sanctioned, condoned, endorsed, and sponsored genocide of the Libyan people at the hands of their ruthless dictator, Muammar Gaddafi. They have aligned and protected an international terrorist! Yertle the Turtle even admitted that had President Obama been a REPUBLICAN (Teahadist) President, the GOP would have supported his decision to continue the NATO mission.

My goodness, these are the same people that supported their God, St. Ronnie’s decision to assassinate Gaddafi but that did not end as planned. Gaddafi is still alive but his daughter is dead! We took out the wrong Gaddafi! I am starting to believe that if the GOP had their way, Osama bin Laden would still be bunkering down in Pakistan!

I understand the why some Democrats voted with the Teahadists because, many Democrats do not favor war; most of us wish to end ALL wars. But, the GOP’s reasons are purely political! They embrace war! They never met a war they did not like except, of course, when a Democratic Black man initiated it.

I seriously hope the same terrorist supporting organization (GOP) does not crash the world economy by playing the same political games with our debt ceiling!

  23. Lost in Texas FOREVER

and when Obama appeared to move too slowy on Libya, weren't these the same folks that were bashing him at that time as well? (ask Newt about his flip/flop) When asked about the GOP now seemingly anti-war, the Senate minority leader kind of hinted that it's easier to support something when one of your OWN is in the White House. In other words had there been a Republican POTUS this would not be an issue. Once again this is about politics, not supporting the president on anything
if you're a Republican. By the way where are the jobs, guys? At least put out a jobs bill.

This is unpatriotic! These Republicans in the House of Representatives are UNAMERICAN.

We have our fine members of the Air Force, Navy & Marines risking their lives to rid the world of one of the most henious, tryannical murders of American citizens [Pan Am Flt103], and all they want to do is play games? We pay Congressmen $74M per year; that's over a MILLION dollars a week and this type of grandstanding is what we get?

Where are the JOBS bills you REPUBLICANS PROMISED! I, for one, can't wait to vote your sorry butts out of office.

Good, now bring the resources to focus on this country. We have to stop being the Global cops and spread the responsibilities to other allies.

This endless effort to control every situation in the World has to stop. We are trying to win a battle and might lose the war right here with a failing economy.
