Bachmann responds to Medicaid payout report

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann responded Wednesday to a report by NBC that the mental health clinic run by her husband has collected annual Medicaid payments totaling over $137,000, while she has criticized the program for swelling the "welfare rolls."

"Medicaid is a valuable form of insurance for many Americans and it would be discriminatory not to accept Medicaid as a form of payment," Bachmann spokeswoman Alice Stewart told CNN. "As a state-sponsored counseling service, Bachmann and Associates has a responsibility to provide Medicaid and medical assistance, regardless of a patients financial situation."

According to the NBC Report:

"The previously unreported payments are on top of the $24,000 in federal and state funds that Bachmann & Associates, the clinic founded by Marcus Bachmann, a clinical therapist, received in recent years under a state grant to train its employees, state records show. The figures were provided to NBC News in response to a Freedom of Information request.

The clinic, based in Lake Elmo, Minn., describes itself on its website as offering "quality Christian counseling" for a large number of mental health problems ranging from "anger management" to addictions and eating disorders."

Ooopsie Daisy! Republican do as I say, not as I do hypocrisy at its finest. How ironic her husband runs a mental health clinic yet her right-wing extremist agenda wants to eliminate all mental health government funded programs. When Reagan did this in the 80's....our streets filled up with derelyics and psychopaths that need to be otherwise institutionalized or kept on med's.

it certainly looks like she is trying t make the argument in the above article that it did in fact help their clinic. So which one is it Bachmann, did it or did it not help your clinic? I know on person who has never flipped flopped on any issues. Ron Paul!!

To curing those darn homosexuals... Why leave that out the report, CNN? It is the most interesting aspect of the story, is it not?

What a paltry amount, and why is doing Medicaid work for these needy people anything at all wrong, as NBC is trying to imply. The real story here is, why is NBC once again trying to put out blatantly political and biased (and wrong) stories about politicians on whom it has decided to declare war? Someone put this question to NBC please!

So, to manic Michelle it is "discriminatory" to NOT take payments from Medicaid.

How does she square that with her "discriminatory" action to limit the poor access to Medicaid?

    GOP hypocrisy at it's finest.

    "quality Christian counseling"

I'm trying to figure out what that means. Do you contact the good doctor before or after you seek God's help through prayer?

here we go again, another "do as I say do NOT as I do" Republican. The worst part about this is the people that support her will claim that the "evil left wing media" is just picking on her. It's okay if Bachmann does it.

She was against Medicaid before she was for it. That is before she received money from it. How easily these hypocritical Teapublicans change their songs. And she boasts having a titanium spine. Maybe so but titanium spines aren't needed to support empty skulls.

She didn't answer to it. That was a load of crap. Fact is she has come out with all this anti-government garbage the last couple years but has her hand out for you to donate to her campaign to get elected to the highest position in that same government. And yet some of you people don't see through her. You people are scary.

Quality Christian counseling??? Excuse me but aren't those tax payers' dollars being spent on Christian counseling? I object vehemently over the use of my tax dollars to brainwash anyone with Quality Christian Counseling. Er ah Separation of Church and State please????

Double standard! Typical Repuglican...filthy rich, but refuses to pay more taxes for being wealthy. President says to raise taxes on the rich, and he is....so he is willing to lead by paying more taxes. Repuglicans should try that too. The American people have very little faith in politicians. Can't get a common man to run....cost too much, and he/she would be knocked out of being able to run by the rich.

"As a state-sponsored counseling service, Bachmann and Associates has a responsibility to provide Medicaid and medical assistance, regardless of a patients financial situation."

Uh, not true, missy, your husband could always "opt out" of accepting Medicaid patients.

That is what you and the GIO have said would happen if Obamacare was passed, that no doctors would sign on to take Medicaid patients, right?

Looks, like you and your husband will be right there waiting for your "handouts" since you have enjoyed at least $966,000 of "gubmint" money over the last 6 years in his practice alone, not to mention the farm subsidies your family receives..

Just more lies from this hypocritical liar.

    Let the games begin!!

The truth will be very harsh to Ms. Bachmann, who is the worst kind of cheap, lying, bigoted, hypocrite. As the press tears off huge chunks of credibility from the rotting carcass which is her campaign, we should be treated to a marvelous stream of public humiliation.

Although I hope she doesn't suffer too much damage/embarrassment to early. We need her to stick around long enough to destroy her party's chances in 2012, now that Palin seems to be finally fading away.

Wait!!! Why are tax dollars going to a religious based organization. Christian counseling sounds like this place preaches about God and the bible. So, I ask again why are our tax dollars going to this "health clinic"? This right here just shows you what Bachmann would do if she became President. CHRISTIAN SHARIA LAW!!!!

Wow...hypocrisy at its best. So it is OK to take money from "government-run, debt and deficit swelling programs" like Medicaid and at the same time say such programs should be discontinued? Mrs Bachmann, as the saying goes, you can either eat your cake, or you can have it. But you can't have it both ways. This woman does not deserve her seat in congress talk more of being a president.

The clinic should offer stupidity counseling. Ms. Bachmann would be its first patient. First in need, first in line.

What is a clinic described itself as "quality MUSLIM counseling" for a large number of mental health problems ranging from "anger management" to addictions and eating disorders." Would Mrs. Bachmann think that this was a vital service for medicaid patients?

If I had 20 something foster children paid for through government funds, I would be labeled a welfare queen. Oh, well , I
guess Bachman thinks she's the only one privi to the system. Not to mention farm subsidies to her family?

  23. Democrat Class Warfare - Destroying the economy, destroying the country

What a joke the left is. So what if a business accepts government payment for providing a service, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER BUSINESS. There is nothing illegal or wrong here. I guess they would have preferred if these patients were told to go elsewhere? I guess then they'd scream discrimination and cry about how the poor were being denied help and sentenced to a life of misery at the hands of evil business.

Reporting this as news is a real stretch. Sort of plays into the hands of the looney left.
