Boehner: Obama is 'sorely mistaken'

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner responded to President Obama's press conference Wednesday saying Republicans in the House will continue to "stand with the American people" while the president ignores the economic realities in the U.S.

His full statement:

"The President's remarks today ignore legislative and economic reality, and demonstrate remarkable irony. His administration has been burying our kids and grandkids in new debt and offered no plan to rein in spending. Republicans have been leading and offering solutions to put the brakes on this spending binge. The President has been AWOL from that debate.

"The President is sorely mistaken if he believes a bill to raise the debt ceiling and raise taxes would pass the House. The votes simply aren't there – and they aren't going to be there, because the American people know tax hikes destroy jobs. They also know Washington has been on a spending binge for many years, and they will only tolerate a debt limit increase if we stop it.

"The new majority in the House is going to stand with the American people. A debt limit increase can only pass the House if it includes spending cuts larger than the debt limit increase; includes reforms to hold down spending in the future; and is free from tax hikes. The longer the President denies these realities, the more difficult he makes this process. If the president embraces a measure that meets these tests, he has my word that the House will act on it. Anything less cannot pass the House."

– CNN Congressional Producer Deirdre Walsh contributed to this report.

Weeper of the House is standing with Wall Street and the Koch suckers. The American people that he is NOT standing with want an end to subsidizing big oil and other corporate welfare, and revenue increases in the form of taxes for the top 2% at Clinton era levels. By continuing to ignore the largest part of the American people (middle class), Boner aka agent orange is going to find out that elections have consequences. Tax cuts and gutting the middle class will not work. Boner better get the revenue side right unless he and CANTor really enjoy that House minority status.

This guy is a liar and a joke. He has the audacity to stand there with a straight face and say the debt ceiling can't be raised unless the GOP gets everything they want, well I'm praying that the debt limit doesn't get raised. For the GOP to say the brunt of the cuts is to be felt by the middle class and the poor is Un-American. This man didn't give a rats ass when bush was in charge about the debt, now all of a sudden he and his co horts care, give me a break. I know who I will be voting for in 2012 and its not for the GOP.

Boehner sold out to the corporate interests long time ago, and this is obvious. These guys are trying to wreck the economy and do whatever it takes in order to deny Obama the second term. Shameful.

To Rep. Boehner – Then I guess you idiots are going to tank our economy by not raising the debt ceiling. If you do, please just do one thing. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS.

Mr. Speaker, can you please explain to the citizens of the United States why your fat cat friends of avarice need a tax break to fly a corporate jet, why your pasty white friends in Texas (who like you could use a tan) need government subsidies when they are posting 18 Billion dollar profits in one quarter alone, and why your Bush-era tax cuts are not creating the jobs they are supposed to. Just explain that simply or admit that you are the GOWP party, that is Greedy Old White People.

I did NOT hear him say that the president was lying when he said that congress "can act right now to help improve the economy." Stop playing games with the American people Mr. Speaker. To much blah, blah, blah, and no action.

Boehner is fooling his own supporters, or at least trying to. That's what you get for accepting bribe money, in his case from the very fat cats. Same for Joe "Independent" Lieberman, McConnell especially-they are walking the Republican Party, and the nation, right off the cliff. If they haven't already. The planet has never seen anything like it, a wholesale selling out of the "demo" (people) in a democracy-good luck to us all.

Boehner si going to learn the hard way what it's like to be on the losing side...again. Economic reality: we've spent 3+ decades giving the rich and corporations more and more and more of the country's wealth and assets by applying the GOP's economic policies and it's reaching critical mass. Either we break the trend or we break the gov't and the union. Choose, GOPers. And who are these "American people" he's talking about? Gopers/conservatives? They don't constitute all of us. Many of us know for a fact that tax increases don't "kill" jobs just liek tax cuts don't create them. But hey, Obama and the Dems have proposed atx cuts for emlpoyers and employees and the GOP is refusing to go along with it...why? Well, because the Dems proposed it of course and it would force them to come back to the table on the debt ceiling. Guess what? They want the debt ceiling issue to wreck the economy for as long as possible...got an election to win in Nov 2012, dontcha know? If it gets increased, they will do so at the 11th hour, so they can milk as much brinksmanship and economic havoc out their demogoguery as possible. Manufacturing a Crisis 101.

Man this rhetoric is boring. . . the tax "hike" is the repeal of tax breaks that have expired time and again for those that make way more money than most of us!!! The Democrats DO have a plan and have been trying to implement it against a party of obstructionists and nay-sayers who are bent on doing whatever they can to see President Obama fail!!

Boehner and McConnell and Cantor are stuck with the same sound bites from a couple of years ago now, debt heaped on our children and grand-children. The non-political economic organizations are all on the same page touting that the way out of the debt situation is balanced, cut-spending AND raise some revenue's. This will come back to haunt the GObP, as the election gets closer. It is ONLY the Republicans who are so adamantly against the revenue portion of the solution!!

Me thinks Boehner, McConnell and Cantor will have difficulty keeping the positions they now hold if they continue with this line in Congress! The President couldn't have been clearer this morning. Now it's just the Republicans playing politics!

So how in the name of God this issue will be resolved?...I mean really?...Americans have the highest number of wealthy people in the world (as % of the population) and they could share their wealth a bit more.....so social programs can keep helping those more vulnerable. The more inequality, the higher the number of social deviance issues. I don't understand this view of some Americans that having a more equal society is not good for innovation and development. Statistics suggest different....is so frustrating see all this stupidity....

I don't know who you think you're standing with but it sure ain't the "American People" I know! Get a clue Mr. Boehner, tax cuts NEVER stimulate an economy...Reaganomics is a sad failure, no matter what you and your party say. Some things are true whether you believe them or not...and the last time I checked, all those "jobs" that the cuts were supposed to generate seem to be going to Singapore and elsewhere...although I hear China is finally wising up and won't be offering up cheap labor to the US much anymore...

Its the economy stupid. Now repubs are all up in arms because the administration im first year secured a 787 billion dollar stimulus package. What they missed and are really mad about is that the Prez secured all the money he need to get his agenda started. They say thay spending is out of controll. But the truth is the administration is only spendind the money that was secured from the bill. Pretty dang clever i might add. Now think about it. If congress can approve 800 billion to bale out banks and wall street. Then why not double down and secure the funds needed to support American issues. While these repubs blast the Prez for lack of leadership. He has proven to me to not be a smart person, but no dout a leader. Who got you the 30 billion for the BP oil spill. Bobby Gential. Not! Oh you remember his state of the union response. Big Goverment! Obama is the big goverment soliclized spender. However who did ole Bobby go running too, when couldnt handle a crisis off his coast line. They all say Govt is to big until they need Govt to intervine. How can you expect the Govt to run as it should when we dont send statesman to represent us. Why would we elect people to run our govt. Who dont even believe in it. Wake the fnck up!
