Dem group hits back at Rove

(CNN) – The Democratic super PAC Priorities USA launched a television ad Wednesday in states they deem competitive in the next election, directly responding to an ad from the conservative Crossroads GPS, an independent group founded by Karl Rove.

The 30-second spot from Priorities USA, which according to the group will run for the next two weeks in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina and Virginia, calls the Crossroads ad "politics at its worst."

"The Republicans have opposed economic reforms at every turn and now they have a plan that would essentially end Medicare for future retirees, slash education while giving huge tax breaks to big oil and the wealthy," the ad says. "We can't rebuild America if they tear down the middle class."

The Crossroads ad released Monday criticized President Obama's handling of the economy, tying him to the unemployment rate, national debt and high gas prices.

"14 million out of work. America drowning in debt. It's time to take away Obama's blank check," the ad says.

A source with knowledge of the spot from Priorities USA told CNN the buy is approximately $750,000, compared to the $5 million spent by Crossroads.

But the source said the conservative buy is spread out over states with "varying levels of competitiveness," whereas Priorities USA is focused on states the group knows are competitive.

"We never expected we would be able to match Karl Rove dollar-for-dollar but we have a smarter advertising strategy and are running more effective ads," the source said. "We just formed a couple months ago but will be ramping up our activity especially as we get closer to the end of this year."

Priorities USA and Priorities USA Action launched in April to compete with outside Republican groups, like American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS that spent millions to influence the 2010 midterm elections.

Senior strategists of the Democratic group include Bill Burton, former deputy White House press secretary, Sean Sweeney, former senior adviser to former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Paul Begala, a top political adviser to former President Bill Clinton and a CNN contributor.

Karl Rove, former political adviser to former President George W. Bush and former Republican National Committee chairmen Ed Gillespie and Mike Duncan founded the Republican group.

Both organizations have two arms allowing them not to disclose their complete list of donors. American Crossroads and Priorities USA Action are 527 organizations that must reveal their donors. Crossroads GPS and Priorities USA are 501(c)(4) groups, which are not required to disclose their contributors.

About time we got out there and put it to the American people exactly what the rethugs are trying to do, destroy the middle class! that's what their whole agenda is about, going back to the 'good old days' of the robber barons and the poor. but they're too stupid to realize that if they bankrupt the middle class, who's going to buy the products these billionaires' factories produce. i wouldn't put it past the rethug industrialists to keep hiring at a minimum just to make Obama look bad and weak. after all, if the tax breaks for the wealthy really did produce jobs, why was there a continuous drop in employment during the bush regime, AFTER they got their big tax breaks? Huh?????

    That's nice Dems.
Why don;t you start with a 'grassroots' type of movement within the Dem Party that clearly states that you will all stick together, and support each other. Start by ironing out your petty differences behind closed doors NOT in front of Rethugs and the cameras. Support our President and stop lettig him do all the work, and support elecyted Democratic officials and stop allowing the Rethugs to decide their fate.
This is just a suggestion that might make your multi-million dollar ads against Rove et al more effective.

Democrats still trying to catch up with Republicans. I suspect these ads will rely on the same old fear, misinformation, and character assassinations. Just once I would like to see a Truthful Democratic ad that talked issues and not character assassination.

Republicans = take away unions, ruin public education, make college too expensive for middle class, approve "fair trade" agreements which have proven to undermine American jobs and economic growth, take away class action status, defund financial reforms and worker retraining. = the end of freedom.

But what the Republican don't tell the American People Is America all ready had the dept It In be for President Obama even took Office. When President Bush fight two wars America wouldn't make for. The Lie President Bush told just so American people would give him the Ok to go Into Iraq. Just so he make up for the mistake his dad some people say he make when he didn't go in and get the Iraq president the first Iraq war.All the money that President Obama have out to bail out Business 855 of it has been pay back. You know maybe you people should be upset with the Republican , because they haven't done anything but say no and give the RICH tax cuts for all most three years. If the Republican really try and Compromise with the President maybe something would have got done. But the big problem Is that the Republican Party are Listening to the KOCH'S BROTHER and the Tea Party more than they are Listening to the American People. But my guess Is they will In 2012 when they are looking for new jobs. And when you go John Boehner don't cry when you good. And Eric cantor you will take that dumb smile of your face. And Mitch McConnell you are just plan dumb.

the Dems can't "stick together no matter what" because of their diversity. the Reps can stick together and march in lockstep, because no matter how much they punish the middle class, their corporate owners will always be there with the money for the next campaign. take the money out of politics. period. take the money out of politics and demand that the news on the airwaves be spin free, if necessary bring back the fairness doctrine, make the news (national and local) be commercial free. regardless of your political affliation, demand the truth.

I'd like to see the donor list for Crossroads, but we all know that will never happen. $5 million dollars is alot of cash. I believe the dems can win this battle if they stay on message and call out the falsehoods republicans are spewing.

I laugh at the Dems who harp about the middle class. I am middle class, and my life, since Obama, is far worse than it was before. Get real liberals. Try to walk your talk.

Rove is one of the masterminds that built the foundation for the most criminal Administration in the history of the United States; all this from a man who does not even have an undergraduate degree. That is proof that you don’t need a formal education to carry out criminal acts, including the genocide of innocent women and children under the guise of patriotism, nationalism and freedom; as Hitler did in Germany in the 1930s.

Democrats need to do more to point out and hound the behind the scenes weasles like Rove and Dick Armey who are responsible for disinformation and misinformation that have brought us the swiftboaters, the "grassroots" teabag movement and Crossroads. These type of people are the scourge of the American political system.

Rove et al will buy or steal the election, they did it in the past and they'll do it again. Heads up America because here in Texas Governor Rick Perry, Bush's boy, has cut school funding for our children and using them to tout their claim of a balanced budget. That to me says, if you don't have a job then your children don't need an education. Standup for what's right and stand together to take these Republican thugs down.

What has a Republican done for you lately?

Obama gave the middle class a tax cut, outside of the Bush Tax Cuts.
During the final 4-6 years of Bush, what did he do for you?

We really have devolved into a population that is just plain DUMB. The only reason both the dems and repubs are putting out these ads is because they work. We are so afraid of everything and are purposely kept in fear because it suits the ones who are pulling us sheep along. Have a great day, sheep.

What's amazing to me is that Rove and the Bachman's have been able to convince people the debt burden facing this nation, both at the federal government and at the homes of each American are actually the fault of democrats and Obama. It is is insane really, considering the trend started w/Reagan's economic policies and exacerbated by Bush Jr.

It would be nice to see another perspective other than Rove's. He doesn't seem to know about the middle class or show any empathy for those of us not making $1 million or more.
